10-series of CPUs seem to be launching soon and it is interesting how Intel managed to rush from 4 core mainstream CPUs to 10 core mainstream CPUs in just three years: The i7 7700k was released in Q1 2017.
I don't expect a jump in gaming performance tbh, but it will be interesting to see how the 10900k performs against the 3900x in professional workloads: 12 cores vs 10 faster cores. Also interested to see real world clocks, oc headroom and temperature "cost".
The 10700kf could become the new goto gaming CPU, if pricing doesn't skyrocket.

The ACER is a pseudo HDR panel, with specs that are sub HDR (250 cd/m^2 is a joke for HDR), it has no variable refresh rate (144hz are locked) and color accuracy seems to be mediocre.
Just going by the specs you posted, I'd take the AOC 24G2U. It's not even a competition between those two. But the ACER didn't set a high bar to begin with, that said the AOC reads like a good monitor tbh and AOC is a good display brand. At least their high end models have very good reputation.

But AOC is a Acer thing right? About the color accuracy, I think they are close, the Acer only states NTSC and the AOC has pretty much the same NTSC coverage. And the Acer does have freesynch. But I've done some digging and the AOC also has a USB hub and speakers. I think they are the same screen but the AOC is newer and more features. The AOC seems like a great screen for 200€!
Afaik AOC is a TPV subsidiary and Acer is part of the ACER Group.
Panels could very well be the same, but that doesn't necessary mean that they have the same control units, calibration and or software.
You are right, I have no idea why I thought AOC was to Acer what ROG is to Asus haha!

tldr:
- force vsync on in nvidia control panel,
- cap your framerate 3-5 fps below your monitor maximum refresh rate with rtss or nvidia own limiter
- disable vsync in your games settings
I would not activate vsync in the nvidia control panel either tbh. I know it was necassary once, but G sync now works very well without it in my experience.
Capping to 160Hz is enough for the couple of games that I'm able to come close to my max 165Hz refresh rate.

Yeah, I guess most modern games probably won't hit constant 165fps with current gpus right now, But with older games and frame variance there is still a chance for a tear to happen even with the 3-5 below fps limit.

I'm considering a new display purchase coinciding around the release of the RTX 3080 Ti.
I feel like I've been waiting for this near-perfect display forever, but it's never quite there. I'm already using a 1440p, G-Sync, 144Hz, and IPS display.
I've considered ultra-wide displays, but the more I read up on them, the less I'm convinced it's what I want. I hate pincushion distortion, which is commonly described as the fish-eye effect from high FOVs. Unless I'm mistaken, an ultra-wide display is only going to make this distortion worse, because you can see more horizontally. You could lower the FOV, but then you're essentially matching 16:9 FOV horizontal space, while losing vertical space. And I haven't seen enough research into whether curved displays make this worse, or help.
The most important upgrade from what I already have though is contrast and image quality. The upcoming Acer Predator X32 is an option here.
Another option I never thought I'd consider is the upcoming LG CX 48" OLED. Assuming the RTX 3080 Ti has HDMI 2.1 output, I can do 4:4:4 4k 120 with HDR as well. I already have my desk pulled back from my walls for speaker placement. Mounting a 48" display on the wall behind my desk would put it at an ideal distance away.
Thoughts and suggestions? Is the OLED's DPI of ~92 too low? Which display are you looking forward to?

If you have a setup where you can move the OLED back far enough and you can use it only or primarily for media and gaming, it's basically certain to give the best IQ. If it's far enough back the DPI is irrelevant, since it would have the same PPD (pixel per degree of your eye FoV) as a smaller 4k monitor which is closer to you. (And as an extra bonus, focusing at a slightly larger distance is better for your eyes AFAIK).
Sadly I can't go for it since I just have far too many hours per week of programs with tons of static controls on screen, and would likely see burn-in on those within a year.

There are so many of these weird attempts at demoing quality as part of monitor marketing. It's really frustrating. You're always best checking out some of the more dedicated monitor review sites instead. I've used TFTCentral a fair bit. It took till ~december 2019 for Ryzen 3000 to be widly available (aka walk into a store and buy it without preorders). At least the "higher end" 3900x CPUs.

With an ongoing pandemic and production lines being occupied with new consoles and probably new PC GPUs, I wouldn't be surprised if ryzen 4000 would need even longer to become wildly available.
And now for the good news (imo): we are close to new intel CPUs. This means we are either getting new good options or maybe AMD will further adjust ryzen 3000 pricing. A "9900k" for ~350€ could be a nice option for gamers after all.
Looks like AMD gave up and B450/X470 will be able to run zen 3 (ryzen 4000 desktop).
Maybe this debacle will teach them not to appeal to random Reddit threads/agendas. I truly love their resurgence in recent years, and hope they stop with the cheap call-outs to Intel, be proud of what you've achieved instead, highlight that - to reiterate what Steve from GamersNexus said.

might be a dumb question but if I'm swapping from a 3600 to 3900x (don't ask, just got a deal i couldn't pass up) do i need a water cooler? i was just planning to use the stock cooler since i don't bother with OC, and also cause every good aio seems to be sold out. i'm just unsure if my case (nzxt h500) might get too hot.
A 3900x comes with an air cooler and while I have a better air cooler than the one that comes with it you don't need a water cooler.

Not gonna scare you away from ultrawide, but they do mean more work to get some games using the display to its fullest.
I've found most 3D games support it at an acceptable level these days, but there's always some that will require a trip to PC Gaming Wiki to sort out.
Even still, I love my ultrawide.

I have a 34" curved ultrawide (previously played with a 30" non curved uw) and i play with a pretty high fov usually and i haven't noticed any pincushioning look at all when i've been using it for the past few months.
i will very much recommend a curved ultrawide though, as when i was using the flat panel it felt like my eyes had to be looking back and forth to the corners and center to see everything but i don't have that at all on the curved monitor, even though it is bigger.

and i think i'm finally done with pc upgrades for a while now. the stock cooler is good for temps, seeing about what i was seeing with the 3600 both idle and under load. only downside is the cpu fan is a decent amount louder, which i guess is to be expected since it's a bigger fan.

In theory due to die shrink and advancement, a 3080ti should draw less power than my current 1080ti... or does it not work this way?
Not really sure and I certainly do not understand enough to give a good answer, but let's look at some data.
780Ti, 28nm = 250W TDP, 2880 shading units
980Ti, 28nm = 250W TDP , 2816 shading units (completely new architecture with huge jump in performance)
1080Ti, 16nm = 250W TDP, 3584 shading units (some people suggest that 1000 series is mostly a shrinked down 900 series. Not sure how true that is.)
2080Ti, 12nm = 250W TDP , 4352 shading units, +RTX cores, +Int units, + Tensor cores
And each one of them can be easily overclocked and forced to use over 300W!
I wouldn't be surprised if a 3080Ti is a 250W GPU again, despite 7nm. There is certainly a lot more to final power draw than just the process size.
BTW, as many people seem to wait for the 3080Ti. 3000 series in general is likely this year. But I think it will top out at the 3080. 3080Ti will be held back to counter AMDs highest RX 6000 series offering.

Contentious question because audio is a rabbit hole of subjective opinions but i have to ask as it's driving me insane. It looks like i'll be working from home for the foreseeable future and the logitech headset from work is wired and annoys me. So do any of you use a wireless headset or do you know of any good ones?
Every headset i look at the review and comment sections seem to alternate between "It's great." and "It's Shit". It reminds me of monitor shopping and i'm going mad.
I know i can get wired headphones and a mod-mic or whatever but headphone wires annoy the crap out of me when at a computer and i'm also one of those people who REALLY notices the audio transfer when a cable rubs against the table or my arms. So i want wireless even with it's lesser sound quality. PC gaming mainly so as low latency as i can get, decent mic so i have no excuse not to do Co-Op stuff, i don't want £5k "Vegan" headphones made out of handgrown willow and rose wood but i'd also like to avoid £5 shitcans.

If I had to build a new PC today I'd also be unsure. But I'd probably go with a 10900k. Personally I play mostly games that aren't really top-end optimized, and they don't scale to arbitrary core counts. Getting a 10900k would give me the best "moderately threaded" performance, and really good (though not top-end) performance in more scalable workloads too.
A really interesting new option for more budget-conscious gaming is the Core i5-10400F. It's <200, runs well even with cheap RAM, and comes within a few % of a 9900k in most currrent games. When cheaper mainboards for the new Intel CPUs are out it will likely be the best choice for a price/perf focused gaming system.
So here's my current config. And following it are the spare parts lying around. I was toying with the idea of making it a full on secondary PC, not certain. What do you think ? What would you buy to complete it ? Would you change or add something to the current rig ?
Obvious one would be to buy a new monitor to put this one on the seconday PC. Other suggestions ? Secondary PC would be for my mother, so high web usage and I hope some multiplayer sandbox games. Things like that. Not the last AAA @ 4k

My experience with arctis 7. Very comfortable for my head, I like their airweave pads. pretty good battery life, 18-20 hours for me depending on volume. below average mic quality. No latency because it's using it's own 2.4 ghz wireless dongle.
Sound quality is not that great for the price to be honest, but not terrible. It also work with ps4 directly, and it has a line in on it's dongle. so you can pretty much make anything wireless with it.
In the end I kept it for the wireless convenience and using it almost exclusively for my work at home because it's the most comfortable headphones I've tried so far. (I've tried fidelio x2, msr7, ath-r70x, senn hd 569) I like the fact that you can replace the headband and the pads very easily too and it's readily available to purchase online (in my region anyway)

I'm hoping to skip the next generation of consoles and go all-in on PC instead, and as we all know, one of the big advantages of PC gaming is its versatility. My monitor and TV are fairly close together, can I hypothetically run a longer cable and just swap between playing on a TV with a wireless controller for couch gaming and getting back into my chair for hardcore MKB stuff?
2) I'm looking into doing an OLED 4K HDR monitor. Probably about 30" but I wouldn't mind a bit bigger. For the HDR, is there as much calibration involved as with a TV? Do I need to change any settings when I change outputs?
3) How does GSync affect input lag? Does HDR?

1) That's what I'm doing, you'll appreciate the Win+P shortcut a lot.
2) I think oled monitor is still a pretty premium product, might be around $2000 or more? I'm not sure. I know the dell one is $3500.
3) Gsync have a very very minor but unnoticable increase in lag. In good tv hdr have a 0-5ms increase in lag depending on the tv. Not noticable.
