Pre-orders are still a terrible thing in my opinion. Remember TB's advice?

They are, and yep, I do... his advice is still correct today, but I still pre-order (some) games... and I think since those egsclusive deals became a thing, I've done it more - "just in case".

I feel that's doubly dumb, though, as you are then giving even more money to someone who treats his customers like garbage. Even the delayed money from games like Satisfactory means the dev had to wait an entire year for what they could have gotten on launch day, and with higher word-of-moth presumably the lifetime sales could have been even higher (especially for what is essentially an Early Access title)

When refunds are available, I think preordering is not that bad. If it sucks, you can have your money back.

More worrying is post launch changes, adding microtransactions, anti-cheat also active in singleplayer, etc. This also affects day one purchases.

Follow my curator for more great game recommendations!

Replicated is a deceptively simple looking yet thought provoking shape matching game where it’s up to you to find the two matching shapes in a single group of cubes.

Each level presents you with a number of square blocks, two to sixteen, that make up two identical increasingly more complex interlocking 3D shapes. It starts simple, two single cubes next to each other, but quickly escalates to long serpentine shapes. Controls are simple, just click on a single cube to mark it red and then build up a series of red cubes until you have the matching shapes. You can also turn on a simple marking system that allows you to mark the other shape blue and that does help. It was slightly annoying that the marking system switch didn’t persist between levels, having to be turned on every time.

Presentation is far beyond other similar puzzle games of this genre with an actual story, cute robots, great music and beautiful presentation. There are 35 base levels, some at the start are tutorial, 5 bonus levels and 1 more after that. Going in blind, it actually took me a few levels of the tutorial to work out what the game was about, I was just clicking at random. Maybe some sort of quick video or demonstration would be of more use. But once it clicks you’re good. The game could use a few more levels as I was finished in about 100 minutes and that included eating dinner!

Simple looking but with head scratching complexity at times, Replicated is well worth adding to your puzzle library.

On other platforms/stores, yes, but on Steam there's no risk at all since you can ask for a refund anytime in the pre-order phase.

In fact, pre-orders are some kind of investment for me. I have a few games on pre-order so if I need some Steam wallet real quick I'll just refund one of them.

My current PS4 wishlist, can anyone help me or hint to or something to what may appear on PC (like FFVIIR is obviously coming, so is Yakuza, but not sure about Judgement). Some of these games are on my wishlist for me to wipe them away when the PC version is announced.

Ghost of Tsushima
Yakuza Collection (3-5)
Judgement
MediEvil
Yakuza 6
Kingdom Hearts 2.8 HD (will probably just play it via Xbox game pass)
FFVII Remake
Golem (PSVR exclusive, don't know if it's timed or full exclusive, not that interested, but I just have it in my wishlist)
Iron Man VR

I only use my PS4 for exclusives, so if there is any sign or hope for a PC version coming sometime I can easily wait.

Yeah, it is. But really, hardly any of the games I preordered had studios behind them that signed exclusivitiy deals. I guess its more about the feelings that they could happen that raises the urge to preorder.
And when I said I'd preorder "more", thats going up from a low number, mind you, usually its sequels to games I've played before (HL Alyx, Hitman 2, Doom Eternal, Resident Evil 3), games from studios where I loved their previous games (Cyberpunk), and remasters/re-releases/ports of games I've played before (Horizon Zero Dawn).

I did preorder Metro Exodus before it went exclusive, tho. Still kinda regret that.

Yeah. I still only do it extremely rarely, but with readily available refunds I can't really think of an inherent issue with it.

The only "pre"-orders I do is for games that I know I want and which have some sort of bonus, and then I usually do it a few days (or even hours) before launch.

I disagree. You are still wide open to post-launch issues that are deeper than 2 hours into the games. In my opinion buying day 1 is slightly risky and pre-ordering is a big no-no.

But again, that's just me!

I see where you're coming from but that's a totally different issue which is unrelated to pre-orders.
I think I get what you're saying. If I'm not wrong, it's that ideally these issues are explored and documented by reviews and hopefully don't even exist?

Valhalla boss fight leak.

As someone who really enjoyed Odyssey, more than I enjoyed Origins, Im not feeling it for Valhalla.

Ubi is actually losing money from me as I would have bought the game day 1 Steam, but now I will do Uplay+ 1 month instead and then buy Gold edition on a deep sale at some point.

Edit: Already taken down.

They both have covers now! I think every Lego game I own has been updated now.
That is good especially because after the whole WB games thing they might not be able to do it in the future. Speaking of which I should make sure to buy all of them...just in case they do get taken down seeing how they are licensed games after all.

I don't mind pre-purchasing games on Steam as I can refund them within 2 weeks of release if other people bring up that it sucks or is a broken mess.

And with my backlog, the likelihood of me playing more than two hours in the initial two weeks is slim.

PlayWay has a 47% stake (CreativeForge Games) in the developer behind Phantom Doctrine. Last year there was some drama about the CEO of the studio getting kicked out and most of the team quitting not long after so I wouldn't be optimistic about this one.

I can't help feel a resounding meh at that video of gameplay. It's hard to put into words but the game as an experience and a world feels completely artificial. The way you move, the icons, the expectations of interaction and the way everything functions just shatters any kind of sense of play for me.

AC Valhalla looks fine, more of the same with a darker tone overall, which I like. I'm not a fan of the settings though, and being a Viking I guess there will be no shield weapon.

Watch the start. The framerate. Aaaaaaaaaaa.

This game looks like a joke since its gameplay reveal. Please tell me it's not $60.

Good call, just bought the last couple I had been waiting on (DC Villains, Incredibles, and Lego Movie 2). Feels good to have the full collection.

You did good. There is only one way to show Sony more of their AAA PS4 catalogue is welcome.

Hopefully more will come.
I mean, Pre-orders are not as important as Day 1 purchases and Sony will take note of everything and make changes here and there to their marketing strategy, for example, it didn't got a pre-order banner cause' summer sale is on-going at the moment and it will only feature 1 of the potential 2 front page banners, which is ABOLUTELY essential as a tool for those users that do not check social media and right now don't even know that HZD is coming (yes, I'm sure there's still people that don't know hehe)

Also, to be honest, I'm fucking tired of not finishing HZD, IDK if I said this on Metacouncil already but I borrowed the game from a friend in 2018 and started it right after Far Cry 5. at first I played like normal and I fucking loved what I played (I mean, yeah, controller control for me is bad cause' I'm not used to it haha) but when I arrived to meridian for the first time what I literally said was "Woah, that was a good session, tomorrow I will continue" and it's been 2 years already hahahahaha

I returned the game ofc but I have always wanted to finish it and I think this PC release is not only the perfect time but also THE ONE TIME to do so, even doing side-quests so yeah, can't wait. :cat-heart-blob:

Steam, second half of 2020, one pic
That would be indeed an amazing second half of the year, and by looking at how the first half went, I wouldn't say this is too crazy, don't you think? haha :cat-heart-blob:

I really want that last one, either that or the new switch game, I don't care which, I just wish we would get one of them on Steam... D:
We're getting proper Miku on Steam. Just a question of time
We're never getting Muramasa though
