Yeah, at this point I'd be surprised to see a Final Fantasy game not release on PC a year late. They have done it with IX, XII and will do it with VIIR. Making XVI an outlier would be strange.
I wonder why Sony is paying for this. I doubt this pushes anyone towards Sony platforms that doesn't already have one.
IX was released more than one year later on consoles.

And I'm finished Wasteland 3!

Overall, a very good game. It's a shame that general bugginess, choppy performance, and godawful loading times detract from it. Usually I try to 100% games like this, but I didn't even try with W3 because, frankly, I was growing frustrated with it. Still, I spent 42 hours with it, and it's a huge improvement over Wasteland 2. Really excited to see what they do after this.- I'd love them to do another CRPG, maybe with a new setting.

Yeah I completely agree! I'm not close to done but I really like it and as you say the buggyness is there in so many ways;

I still don't think Sony will block a PC version - I reckon a lot of it is on Square's reluctant to release on PC more than anyone else. Could be similar to the Ubisoft PC version delay shenanigans.

Regardless, if Sony are paying to keep games off PC, and thinks PC gamers are going to suddenly break and buy a PS5 to play [insert game x here], they are sorely mistaken. Many PC gamers won't even install EGS, a free launcher, for exclusives - fat chance they plop $500 down on a console.

Plus I doubt Sony would be releasing games on PC if they thought the power of exclusives was enough to lure PC gamers to their platform - if you were a PC only player thinking of grabbing a PS5, the entire PS4 library, including all those exclusives, sure is attractive if there's no chance in hell of them coming to PC. To just port big hitters like Death Stranding, Horizon, probably Bloodborne, probably The Last of Us Part I & II, probably many more, seems insane if they are then paying money elsewhere to keep games off of PC for a mere 12 months.

Personally speaking, exclusives don't do it for me anymore. EGS has taught me a valuable lesson: it's fine to wait, and third party moneyhatted exclusivity is a shitty practice that I'm not going to reward any platform holder for doing. There's only one thing that would convince me on a PS5: if Sony puts backwards compatibility in from PS1-PS4, and also includes digital whitelisted PSP/Vita games, I'd be in. They should spend their money adding value to their platform, not taking value away from others.
Yeah, I guess it's just Square being Squareheaded as usual.

If FFXVI is coming to PC later then I think it's Square's own decision.

Sony isn't gonna convine many PC gamers to use 500$ to play FFXVI when many wait on EGS exclusives to release on Steam/GOG when it's just a download away.

Well this vid won the internet for me today

Brilliant :evilblob:

About what you all have been discussing today, FFXVI will have (most likely) a timed exclusivity and well, PC might be affected too, because Sony wants it that way? No, because Square always does such an stupid move, they always do it.

I don't think Sony would mandate PC to be included in such timed deal (to delay it's release) as PC it's a support platform and well, not a direct competitor, however Square loves to make the same strategy over and over again by delaying the PC release and hoping for a lot of double dips (something that never happens because we are used to wait always.)

I feel like the PC double-dip strategy works a few times, but all they're doing is training their customers to wait. It feels unsustainable and takes their customers for granted, and may lead to some ill-will in the future.

Additionally, the generation shift is such a stupid time to do it, as we're at a point where potential customers are less likely to go multiplatform on hardware, especially in a climate where the expectation is that a game is going to come to everything, even if there's a wait for it.

If I'm already waiting for something to come out and it took like a year + and it's horrendously expensive then I'll just wait another year + for it to be super cheap.

I waited like 5 years for a game on steam to go on sale from its 1.50$ and at that point I went "Maybe it will go cheaper" then it went in a bundle so ha

ABSOLUTELY, here I am, with 2 copies of RDR2 and 2 copies of GTA V, cause' I'm stupid and I can't wait, funniest part? console versions were dropped, PC versions were finished :coffee-blob:

but all they're doing is training their customers to wait. It feels unsustainable and takes their customers for granted, and may lead to some ill-will in the future.
I mean, most of us are willing to wait YEARS just to play wherever we want, hell, I waited over 1700 days just to play Digimon the way I wanted, how long can I wait? unlimited cause' my mantra is "patience is for the winners, it has rewards" so yeah, if I can wait for something I LOVE profoundly that much, I can wait an eternity for something I like but that's it.

Additionally, the generation shift is such a stupid time to do it, as we're at a point where potential customers are less likely to go multiplatform on hardware, especially in a climate where the expectation is that a game is going to come to everything, even if there's a wait for it.
Most people are just going to wait until the game in case is where they want to play and that's wonderful cause' it means people can be patient and can control themselves just because they have personal rules, we are fucking experts of that and companies are not stupid, they know most won't double dip but if a little percentage does, it will be worthy.

I am the opposite. There are dozens of games I would have bought on release out of blind loyalty to the series/developer or the sub-genre if they were available on day 1 on PC. After waiting for months or years, the excitement is gone, I already watched it completely on Youtube, or the game was just bad. Adding to that are half a dozen EGS exclusives that I will not buy out of principle (and for some of them I am happy that I didn't bought them, because they were bad or duds)

Double-dipping was already a somewhat questionable economic reason for staggered releases, the market is tiny. And in this day and age it would completely be dwarfed by the impulse buyers who will see a game on Twitch or Youtube and want to play it.

Double dipping might work once and on some hardcore fans, but you bet it's due to trepidation and good word of mouth.

FFXV got shattered by everyone after release, and despite being a port that would go above and beyond, there's a good reason why the DLC was shitcanned, future PC improvements stopped, multiplayer abandoned and leadership scattered to the winds.
People did not want to double dip and the sales were clearly pathetic, on top of being a massive failure as a GaaS.

especially as FF12 is still more expensive than FF15 on Steam.

This is the thing that gets me with FF games. FFVI still terrible, but has been maybe salvaged by mods. FFVII has some also awesome mods that improve the visuals while maintaining the original style (ReMako HD mod, I'm thinking of here). All these great classic games but what about the new ones? $30+ all the time even on sale? WHAT?????? Never more than 50% off. Some of these games are YEARS old. Where's the blow out sales on FFXIII trilogy? Same with FFXV and FFXII Zodiac is by all accounts a GOOD port of that game, but they never put that game on sale??? What gives?

I have no idea. Even with the 50% sale, FF12 is not in an impulse-buy or nostalgia territory. FF13 and FF15 go on sale for 7 to 17 bucks. It's like they set FF12 with a remaster price and never bothered to lower it.

I know nobody remembers but that game also launched on Xbox day 1.
I am one of the few that remembers. Even in Japan when the Royal Edition came out, Japan mentioned the Xbox One version (but I think that one was digital only?)
Dang how will AMD respond?

Also Hektor check out the anime figure thread. And pass judgement on me.

Also there is some pretty good hentai out there. There is some pretty intense stuff as well but there is also vanilla stuff (never forget that, like the one with the OL with a special tounge)

I wonder if this means trouble for the licensors of ARM chips. Nvidia have certainly done a lot of business in licensing their brand while not lowering prices except to squeeze competition. I wonder if this will mean they start squeezing ARM licensees for extra cash.

Correct. Double dipping works when your games is really good. If your game is shit, not only there will be very few double dippers, staggered release will make people lost their interests.

To me, using double dipping as an actual motivator for not releasing on everything day 1 is such a baffling decision.
I mean I get it, selling the "same" thing to the same customers over and over again is probably a dream scenario for companies, but I do not think this reflects the actual market situation.
Because imo the market for double dippers is very niche: People with multiple systems (usually console(s) + PC, but anything + Switch probably as well), which is already pretty much in "enthusiast" territory I'd say, and then the game must actually be good enough to be willing to buy it twice.

I guess the companies must be thinking double dippers are pure extra money, because the amount of people buying a late port is the same as the amount of people buying a day 1 release on the platform, but that's just fantasy. And completely ignores that late ports are usually expected to be cheaper because, well, they're late, don't have the release marketing hype behind them, etc, etc.

Waiting 4-6 more weeks for AMD opens up the following possibilities:

1.) Nothing chances and RTX 30x0 is still the best option. You had to spent an extra couple of weeks with your old GPU, which shouldn't be a big deal unless you are in dire need because you don't have a GPU at all or because it is that bad.

2.) You'll know exactly what models are good/bad and have plenty of benchmarks to compare things. A disaster like with the Asus 5700XT Tuf can be avoided.

3.) Nvidia is forced to adjust prices or release better Super/Ti versions with more memory (maybe slightly better performance).
There are leaks about 3070Ti and 3060Ti models coming.

4.) AMD offerings are too good to be skipped.

Guess Im gonna have toget Among Us. Looks fun.

Also realized that the 2 "new" big games these days are both indie games that are only on Steam on PC and Valve didn't pay for exclusivity.

Is there a way for a gamepass subscriber to buy months in advance ? Just thinking about stopping the sub vs buying multiple cheap months.
