Seems like offline game modes are very limited, they re-enabled timers for non-ranked friendly matches by mistake in the last patch, AI is a bit dumb but a lot of it is down to new people not knowing what to do because of unintuitive interface and bad tutorial. So the usual half-baked solo experience you always get with these games. I don't know why people expect any different tbh. Oh and you have to buy certain armies as they don't come packed in with the base game, again, not fun if your favorite army is not in the base game but not entirely unexpected from these types of game.
I wouldn't even be against, and don't know why no one tried it, a Warhammer Fantasy Battle or 40K (official or not) that would try the sort of 'predatory' business model of real life GW. It would hopefully be cheaper, because no plastic, it would be hell to balance and an army of very vocal people would whine 24/7 about overpowered this or that, but man, I would really be interested.
Why no one ever tried ? :cryblob:
I don't want to paint minis but I love miniatures FFS :cryblob:

Oh, I wouldn't also be really who I am if I didn't share with the whole world how beside a mobile phone, I need an headset and microphone.
What would everybody do if they didn't know :sweaty-blob:

But it's horrible, every review site laud some 200-400 euros headset, and every cheap one is seemingly the worst thing ever. I.DON'T.PRINT.MONEY.

Yeah I'm in the mood to try to talk to people on the Internet, could be a pipe dream but I'm fed up with no talking to people.

We're the money left on the table...

Atlus: let's do everything with P3 except porting the game.

Spoiler: She actually made a stream where she asked Atlus to allow her to play Persona 3... for over an hour and a half.
She took the video down a few days later tho. she said she'd made her point and didn't want people hounding Atlus in her name for years and years and end up pissing them off.

What the fuck is that Call of Duty ''''''SALE''''''
Holy shit, I think the last time I actually bought a COD game was MW2 for like... I wanna say 5 bucks but it was probably more like 10-15$. And IIRC it wasn't THAT long after it came out. But looking at this sale, titles over half a decade old still go for anywhere from 30-40 bucks. MW3 is still over 20$ for me. For games with a 5h campaign where multiplayer (which has to be long dead by now) is the entire point. They are out of their goddamned minds lmao.

No wonder they fucked off from Steam. Surely no one but the most hardcore COD fans would bite at these prices? And surely they all own these games already at this point? This is well outside impulse purchase territory.

How is that Relicta game? Since Humble refuses my credit card without a good explanation I'm searching for a cheap key on the internet.

One thing that makes me quite unhappy about Biomutant is that the errant-Japanese-warrior-looking mercenary class is locked behind a preorder. That's some bullshit.

I have posted some recs in our manga/comic/etc thread a while ago:

Kubera
The God of Highschool
Tower of God

Some other quick not in-depth recs:
Witch Hunt (Completed)
Nano List (Completed)
Sweet Home (Completed)
Lessa (Completed)
Lessa 2 - The Crimson Knight (Completed)

Maybe you'll find some of them interesting and want to check them out.
I like them all a lot.
But if I'm pressed to recommend only one out of these, I'd pick Kubera. Everyone really should read Kubera :sweaty-blob::sweaty-blob::sweaty-blob:

If this is true, Valve should be sued 😡
They are. :face-with-open-mouth-and-cold-sweat:

Dear gamers and game developers,
I would like to explain why Wolfire Games is seeking to represent game developers in a class action suit against Valve Corporation. I felt that I had no choice, because I believe gamers and game developers are being harmed by Valve's conduct. While I am taking on significant personal risk, I am not doing this for personal gain. If there’s any monetary recovery, it will be distributed to all developers and gamers in the class.
I did not set out with the goal of suing Valve, but I have personally experienced the conduct described in the complaint. When new video game stores were opening that charged much lower commissions than Valve, I decided that I would provide my game "Overgrowth" at a lower price to take advantage of the lower commission rates. I intended to write a blog post about the results.
But when I asked Valve about this plan, they replied that they would remove Overgrowth from Steam if I allowed it to be sold at a lower price anywhere, even from my own website without Steam keys and without Steam’s DRM. This would make it impossible for me, or any game developer, to determine whether or not Steam is earning their commission. I believe that other developers who charged lower prices on other stores have been contacted by Valve, telling them that their games will be removed from Steam if they did not raise their prices on competing stores.
While talking to other developers about problems that they were having with Steam, they kept referring to it as a "monopoly," and saying that there was nothing that we could do. I wondered, has anyone actually checked if Valve is obeying antitrust law? So I consulted with legal experts, which eventually culminated in the complaint.
As the dominant platform, when developers list their games on multiple PC stores, the majority of their sales will come through Steam. I believe this makes most developers afraid that if they don't sell on Steam, they will lose the majority of their revenue. To those developers, avoiding Steam would add unacceptable risk to the already high risk of game development in general. I believe that most developers have little or no choice but to sell on Steam and do as they're told by Valve.
I believe that businesses are free to do whatever they want within the law. However, once a company reaches a certain level of power over an entire market, the antitrust laws forbid those companies from distorting competition. I believe that Valve is taking away gamers' freedom to choose how much extra they are willing to pay to use their platform. I believe they are taking away competing stores' freedom to compete by taking advantage of their lower commission rates. I believe they are taking away developers' freedom to use different pricing models.
In my opinion, this is part of why all competing stores have failed. This suit insists that Valve stop interfering with pricing on other stores, and allow gamers and developers to make their own decisions. That’s why I joined the lawsuit.
Sincerely,
David Rosen

"Why you should believe us."

And why the reason is bollocks:
1. if they are selling Steam keys at their own store they could just make a semi-permanent 30% sale while the base price is the same as on Steam. they could even do a 2-day 30% sale on Steam to circumvent the "you shall offer the same/equivalent sale on Steam as on other stores".
2. if it was more than 30% why are they fleecing steam buyers?
3. All his arguments about competition with other stores are bollocks, because the stores already can do everything he said that they can't do.

If this was true I think one of the bigger players would have sued Valve long ago.

I'm not going to say he is lying without more info, I guess we will see in the trial since it's very easy to prove, but I find it really weird.

Sounds like he's on a crusade. Why even ask Steam for something you didn't sign in any terms and not do it? A million also on Steam games on platforms other than Steam are offered for different prices or free. But no, they thought they'd lose money from a 3 (6 counting ea) year old indie and risked everything over it...

Have US courts ever ruled against most favored nation clauses? Not familiar with legal history. It does not seem like a court would rule a company has to be compelled to sell a product for a worse price than its competitors, but it also seems too susceptible for abuse by major companies to force price parity.

Also curious of the exact conversation between Valve and Wolfire. It seems weird we never heard of any other developer mention not being able to set pricing differently elsewhere.

Are Wolfire trying to win a court case, or just the court of public opinion?

I'd have thought the second you sue someone, you shut the fuck up and let your solicitor do the talking. Anything they say/do will be used in the trial.

That's pretty much been the only available battlefield for them against Valve given that out of the entire gaming ecosystem, they are the ones playing fairest and most pro-consumer it seems.

3. All his arguments about competition with other stores are bollocks, because the stores already can do everything he said that they can't do.
I think one needs only to look up the prices of some upcoming games and see how point #3 that you mentioned is like.
First up, let's take a look at the upcoming Hired Gun game:
This is its price for me on Steam

Let's take a look on its price at least on gg.deals, to see how much other stores are offering it for

Humblebundle with the choice 20% discount, has the game as $27.19. but its current pre order price at around $34.

The reasons I can think of on why some stores won't go any cheaper is due to
a) Key seller doesn't want to sell it for too a deeper discount to not turn away publishers, which brings us to
b) The different discount than steam isn't affecting their own cut from selling the key of the game (of which valve gets no money from whatsoever)

This has been the case for YEARS and I've been buying stuff for steam for the better part of 5+ years, and generally go for key selling sites such as humble, etc.

Look up various games on steam and then search for how cheap it could be had on other sites via gg.deals or even isthereanydeal.

I want to fucking smash my balls thanks to stadia, thanks for delaying the game :crying-face:
I truly do not understand the logic behind Google paying for a moneyhat that only delayed the PC version and not the game's release on any other platforms. isn't the audience for Stadia meant to be people who don't have the budget for expensive gaming hardware, and aren't those people more likely to own a console than a gaming PC?

His main point is false today.

Other than this weird precision, I agree with both Lars and Chet about soft power:
  • there is what is written,
  • there is the rumour which spreads from devs to devs.
Some clauses do not need to be written (or even true for that matter), they will be enforced by the weak ones themselves if there is a large power asymmetry.

Now, the question is whether there is some truth to "what I heard my older brother talk about". Or has there ever been some truth to it, like 10 years ago?

Have these people deceived themselves? :face-with-open-mouth-and-cold-sweat:

Tizoc the pre-discount prices are mostly the same, so perhaps that’s what it’s about? Some sites that do have different prices operate on the basis of different currencies, like Wingamestore where you always pay in USD. Still seems strange. I’d have expected more developers to chime in if this is happening.

Mangagamer and other VN publishers sell games on their websites without steam keys and steam DRM so what's written in there is pretty ????

all these are the same version as those sold on Steam, no steam keys no DRM (minus that game marked as "hardcopy" for obvious reasons)

More speculation time, does Overgrowth use Steamworks for everything?

I wonder if they wanted to stay using Steamworks for things like multiplayer. I do not recall them mentioning the Valve price veto interaction in their compliant, rather, they complained about the tying of services. I know a part of the argument was Valve tying the store with Steamworks.

I guess time will tell about the interaction.

sorry for being a proud suppoter of stadia and owner of an exquisite, expansive library.

I feel co-responsible with all this money that I invested in this platform. Its clearly here to stay, so I figured, I might as well go all the way.

I find it difficult to see that as valve enforcing it as a form of parity tho.
In the end consumer choice decides whether a game is bought directly from steam or via a key seller.

I'm sorry but this usage of the "soft power" rhetoric sounds a little insane to me. Is he truly meaning that some devs won't dare sell a game for less than they are on Steam despite nothing in their contract and agreements stipulating to the contrary? As in, distributing it themselves or using some other platform like GoG?

It seems more far-stretched than an Incredibles family member to me, honestly. You don't run businesses according to rumors and there are enough bucks in this industry that someone has checked the wording to make sure of that.
