I completed the Quake remaster. As someone who never played the original, I think it holds up extremely well even today. I was particularly impressed at how good the level design was and how everything mostly flowed together in a way that I was always on the move and never got lost. There are a few levels in episode 4 that are kind of shoddy, but the first three episodes are near perfect.

I'm 3 power upgrades away from the Pyschonauts challenge, but I don't think I have it in me.
It'll take me really scouring all the past levels for the collectibles so I can get enough upgrade points but I never 100% games like that.

Still a fantastic game though!

So yea, this is NOTHING like xcom at all, other than being turn-based strategy by the same studio.
I mean, it does look like something i am totally down to play, but also is a hard to swallow pill that we won't get XCOM3 because of this

Wow, likely the biggest disappointment of the month, there's already enough interesting StS-like with their unique niche and there's not enough good XCOM-likes. Hope XCOM3 development is separately ongoing otherwise it's going to come around ~2024.
Even if it is developed seperately, i think with this marvel game being the next big thing from the studio releasing early 2022, we won't see xcom 3 before 2023.

It looks like there is still positioning and movement involved so it isn't full on slay the spire. But also it's very heavily influenced by Fire Emblem Three Houses.

like they even call the hub place the Abbey. It's like exactly that same lol.

thats imo bad way to look at it

i wouldnt bet on xcom 3 before 2024 anyway even without this ... glad to seem them trying something else than neverending Civ/xcom cycle

I am very excited towards Midnight Suns after the gameplay trailer... and I am pretty indifferent towards Marvel. Although it is not XCOM, it still looks like a very well-made tactics game.

Yup, If Midnight Suns helps keep the studio fresh creatively and avoid burnout then it's a good thing imo.
I'm sure a big chunk of cash from Marvel fans will help too of course.
I doubt this will delay XCOM 3 too much either, it's probably in pre-production while the studio works on this and if it lets them get some experimentation done and maybe keep them out of XCOM 3 then all good in my book.

So Elden Ring may not allow invasions if you're solo. I hope this becomes a toggleable feature for the ones who want it though. You can invade if there is jolly CoOp.

I am happy for it as most likely how things been going I am gonna be solo anyways.

Some weird decisions for sure. Same with no horses if you are doing coop.

I'm guessing the open world breaks a lot of the traditional pvp angles and may introduce grifters etc.

PC gamers will most likely fix all the stuff themselves with convenience mods. Just like the amazing invade anywhere from anywhere dust mod for DS3 pvp.

An analysis of dead EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 cards that failed while playing Amazon’s New World game indicate a rare soldering issue limited to a small batch of cards is responsible, a company spokesman told PCWorld.

EVGA said it received about two dozen dead GeForce RTX 3090 cards believed to have failed from playing the New World beta. All of the cards were earlier production run cards manufactured in 2020. Under an X-ray analysis, they appear to have “poor workmanship” on soldering around the card’s MOSFET circuits that powered the impacted cards.

EVGA said all of the failures reported to the company were confined to GeForce RTX 3090 cards. The company said it immediately shipped replacement cards to affected gamers rather than wait for the failed cards to be returned.

Depends on how much steam users complain, and if the gamepass version is actually different other than the launcher.
At the very least an user in the steam community hub mentioned that the gamepass version still has the 1440p bug.
Ha, thanks for bringing this to my attention as I was downloading it.

Oh. Well, I was planning on maybe playing it on Gamepass tomorrow, but I guess not.

I really have to wonder why bugs like this happen. I've seen it in multiple bad console ports, like Wonderful 101, where 1440p looks jagged and crunchy. I find it amazing that the FF13Fix's solution to this is to just have it be at 1439p or something like that, because it's that exact resolution that's the problem.

MS must not be throwing money at Square without forcing them to do better ports. Its the only explanation on why they are actually doing different ports for both Nier and now XIII. They get that delicious Gamepass $$$.

Still messed up tho. I bought XIII day one on Steam and had to experience quite the shit port by any standard. Actually played it to the end. And XIII-2 was unplayable for me at launch with audio sync issues, 20 fps + other crash issues. I believe it still has most of those issues to date.

Paying customers had to swim through shit for supporting them day one 6-7 years ago with those 360 ass port rips but now for Gamepass they decide to do it differently. If they are good ports they better fucking update them for steam users. I still haven't bough Lightning Returns because of how awful XIII-2 experience was.

What I want to know is if it's multi-threaded or not. Because even just having two threads for stuff would fix performance dramatically.

I guess I'll find out tomorrow, I'm heading to bed now.

A test branch that was created 2 years ago has the description "For Virtuos" (the studio credited in the gamepass version). That branch was a copy of the public steam version, so I guess it was the base/initial version where Virtuos started their work for the gamepass version?
It's possible that they may have fixed performance issues since then and the 1440p issue is something that they weren't aware of (though it's also possible that it won't be much different from the steam version).

I guess the real test about the gamepass version performance would be the crystarium menu in the later parts of the game (since that menu performs awfully in the steam version without ff13fix), but it'll take a while until someone reaches there unless the save files are compatible between versions.
