Played the Tales of Arise demo; it plays well on Linux*; looks nice (a biiit too much anime for my taste); plays like a typical JRPG (for me): it confuses the hell out of me, but easy mode and button mashing does the trick. And it has a ton of DLC, jeez. But since I liked Tales of Berseria (didnt finish that one tho, are there any story connections?), I might play this one. ;)

* I should make a Linux gaming thread one day... I ditched Windows completely recently, since everything I want to play runs well on Linux, sometimes it requires some tinkering**, but largely its fine. And I only expect Proton to get better and better. And I expect devs to support it more once the Deck is out. I'm using Manjaro + KDE, that's Arch-based like SteamOS 3.0 will be.

** Life is strange True Colours runs fine too, but it crashes if you have internet connectivity at the startup. So the solution here is strange indeed: disconnect, start the game, reconnect once youve started playing.
One of us!

There is already a Linux gaming thread |OT| - The Linux Gaming Thread - Thread of the Millenium

I read that these two weird games are not too bad.

I bought this but ended up refunding it. It was alright, just didnt really do it for me. I'd read it was a good x-com ish type game but i didnt really get that feeling when playing it.
I think you might have gotten your genres mixed up before purchasing.

Jupiter Hell was always presented as a traditional rougelike along the lines of ADOM but faster paced like Tangledeep.

The dev is even responsible for the very similar DoomRL.

Jupiter is pretty ace for what it sets out to do. Not as crunchy as the likes of TOME but pretty awesome for a breezy, action-focused traditional rogue.

Amazing. A week-long ban for sharing the price glitch in the community hub.
That sucks :(

I was too late by the way... Keys were sold out and I got a mail from wingamestore that my reservation is cancelled and refunded. Oh well, it was worth trying 😉

Each entry in the series is its own story, they are not connected. No need to play previous Tales of games to play this one.
Berseria shares Zestiria world, though. Just saying, the dev specifically said it was a new separate and self sufficient entry.

amazing, Nexomon has a bug where if you fast travel you're stuck as in the game runs but no matter what you press the game won't register input, this happened to me EVERY SINGLE TIME I FASTTRAVELED so far

only fix is to restart the game

Ouch.
Wonder what causes that. Haven't encountered that at all during 20+ hours.

I really enjoy Sims 4 even to this day.

The presentation is cartoon enough to make it feel timeless on the aging-graphics scale. Plus being several years old it runs like an absolute dream in most cases.

Not even sure what Sims 5 looks like, tbh. Like what fresh new ideas would they bring to the table to warrant a IP reboot.

I'm not in a rush to see anything new personally.

EdwardTivrusky or anyone who knows his hardware, what are the good sites covering the topic, again ?
I look at them each time I want to upgrade then forget :face-with-cold-sweat:
And if there is one thing I don't want it's to take the wrong site seriously (like that infamous PC building video, The Verge ?)

I want to play Arise but I'm still not feeling so good after the vaccine, and I have this thing where if I consume media when sick, I associate that piece of media with being sick and I don't wanna go back to it.

My favorite Sims is still the 2nd. It is still a nice balance of the zany and simulator aspects, and a huge leap over the first on a technical level.

The 3rd pretty much killed off my love of the series until EA returned to Steam with Sims 4, which is actually not too shabby. It still has a few surprisingly absent features and certain features should be considered core from now on and no longer require an expansion, but it is what it is.

I do something similar too. As a lad I tried to play Misadventures of Tron Bonne while having a massively bad sunburn. Could never play it afterwards. Sold my copy and now I kick myself...

Hope you feel better soon and can enjoy some ToA later :blobmorning2:

I have a soft spot for short, very pretty indie games that prioritize storytelling and art direction over mechanically complex or challenging gameplay, so I don't mind this tbh
I think best point of comparison I can give that would sell anyone on if this is for them or not is that it kinda reminds me of Gris.

very pretty but not a lot else

Well, actually these weren't cards but some other thing but anyway - Atlus announced some merch for the anniversary and according to Animate store it releases on the 18th so if it's anything related to new games/remakes/whatever it won't be much of a secret after it's out (so announcement(s) next week are kinda likely?)
I sure hope so, we need P5R on Steam ASAP

They know exactly what they're doing. Clickbait gets views which means Ad-revenue and they know people won't be able to resist talking about them on Social Media which will generate more views. It's win-win especially if the article isn't as emphatic as the title so people can say "well, the actual article is well reasoned and covers it in depth." which will get people to check it out and bingo, more views.

I expect PC Gamer to get at least 3 contrarian articles out of this. One saying Apple won, one saying Epic won and one saying Consumer won and the industry giants both lost.

This is the only explanation.

I love how consistent the article is.

This was a triumph!
I'm making a note here:
Huge success!

Wok What?! So even the article is all over the place too? looool You gotta admire the sheer cheek of it all. There again, if they are just reporting what was said by various parties then yes, the narrative will be all over the place. I guess we're just so unused to direct reporting without some form of angle or agenda these days tho.

Wait, did i just cut Kotaku some slack, bleeehhhhhhhhh. I must be coming down with a fever.

Didn't they drop the ball on this game. IIRC there were some free DLCs that never released. I'm actually surprised it's still alive.

There were issues prior to launch and I think those issues extended past launch. Unfortunately, it looks like one of the only Spanish articles that wrote about the issues is no longer listed.

I finished Blue Fire but only because my gf was enjoying watching me play, and I could use a trainer to get around (some of) the terrible designs. It's legit one of the worst games I've played to completion. The platforming is maybe the worst of any platformer I've played, I'm trying to come up with another platform game where it was bad but usually it's just finicky.

I can see a lot of the intent and ideas behind the game are solid but it's so poorly executed on. The combat is more pointless than even Mario combat but it's also super lethal and a lot of flying enemies designed to require you to kill them before proceeding with a section of platforming. Many of the enemies attacks have hitboxes that make no sense, I was hit by a knights' thrust while out of my own melee range BEHIND him. You have a parry move but the parry window on most attacks is like, 2 frames, there is one attack I accidentally parried the first time and I actually spent FOUR full health bars trying to parry it again and I couldn't, and I'm actually pretty good at parrying. The camera is zoomed in so far I literally used the camera stick more than the move stick in most challenge areas (I say literally and I mean literally, I started actually timing it at one point). The money system is copied from Zelda to some extent but it's also super annoying, you find gems EVERYWHERE that you can sell but only 1 person in 1 town will buy them so you have to warp back and forth constantly to sell gems and then buy things because your wallet size is capped (to whatever wallet size you've bought so far). On top of that a bunch of the platforming amounts to auto-scrollers with extra tedium, because most auto-scroll sections in games are on the easy side, but here they're just as lethal and janky as everything else. The game also has terrible checkpointing and if you have to save+quit it takes you to the previous save point which for the first ~6 hours of the game can be really far back.

When you have every mobility upgrade and warp point the game does let you get around pretty fast. But it's like they designed it for that level of mobility and then just removed all those things for 75% of the game and didn't readdress the basic mechanics. Even with all the upgrades, the platforming doesn't FEEL good, you can just overcome the shortcomings by being over-mobile. There are other issues too - the boss fights are bad, especially the last - but it's one of the few games where I truly don't understand the positive reviews. The fact that less than 1/3 of players have finished the first boss is maybe telling that people don't dislike enough to leave a review, but dislike it enough to stop playing. According to my achievements less than 1/5 have finished the second boss, and it's not a long game.
