yes once you exclude stuff like PSO2, FFXIV and MH:World

Also it broke 55k

Could you please provide a link for that JRPG tag comparison from Steamdb?

Guerilla had terrible game design. The open world sent you from hub to hub doing the exact same thing over and over and by the time you reached the third hub you had seen everything the game had to offer. After that they made Armageddon which was a linear game and actually had a bunch of interesting weapons and levels but that completely bombed. And so for the last decade people have been pining for the shit tier open world game design that RFG had.
I think Guerilla was a lot better than Armageddon.
A lot better than fighting aliens in a cave over and over.

Destroying bridges? Fun
Then you realize those bridges were there for a reason.
A lot of activities, barely any collectibles.

I normally wouldn't bother posting an unfounded rumor like this, but someone in this thread posted an insert from the Justice League Blu-Ray that shows the upcoming DC games coming to Steam. Of course things like this can always change and that's no guarantee the Steam version will be at launch.
Who knows, I would say that most likely the deal changed and now this one might be EGS timed a la tina, but who knows.

No, for Asceroth already did!
Thanks both you and Ascheroth

Sell me on RF Armageddon. For the longest time I avoided it mainly because it is a linear shooty bang of the era of linear shooty bangs 🧐

Is 6 months eggslcoosies gonna be a thing now?
Either way. Tempted though I may be for an SS game, I dislike the theme so I'll wait for the co-op Arkham game and pray someone makes a hair mod for the characters+Duke and Cass being DLC.
Or just a mod for Duke. And Cass.

At this point, signing an EGS exclusivity bill sets alarm bells off for me. Either the penny has dropped and you're releasing a shit game and you want Epic to pick up the tab (especially if it's a popular brand that Epic will be drawn to), your interesting-looking independently developed game needs a cash injection to get it into a playable state, or you're Randy Pitchford.

There are still a few notable exceptions to the above rules, but they all learn their lesson. After the roaring success of Kingdom Hearts on PC, I'm sure Square Enix will be announcing FF7R as a timed exclusive through gritted teeth.

As for Suicide Squad, frankly, being a DC game that's guaranteed to make a fuckton on sales and MTX if it's good, if they have signed exclusivity then the game probably sucks. No big loss.

The website has a generic PC logo, so I don't expect to see an exclusivity deal. However, I could see a strong marketing partnership with Fornite.

Eh. If there's one company I expect to not learn then it is Square Enix. They will happily accept every exclusivity offer coming their way, because in their mind it is free extra money, and after the exclusivity period is over everyone else will still buy the game, plus you have double dippers, so technically you get even more money!

Of course we all know this is stupid and not at all how it works.
But you just know that when someone there looks at the performance of Arise and others compared to Final Fantasy, instead of thinking "hmm, maybe we should actually start growing our audience there, they seem interested and it looks like we might be leaving a lot of money on the table" they'll probably go "I guess PC players don't like Final Fantasy, we should accept more deals to make up the difference".

I'm very very curious about Kingdom Hearts, FF7 and FF16 launch numbers whenever these happen.

Yeah, after checking the picture Arc linked I think that one is fake and while I won't say it won't be exclusive, given that Back 4 Blood is multi-store and it's also a GAAS, I could see another multistore release but a huge emphasis in marketing with Epic via fortnite.

Still can't believe Sony announced PC versions on the main showcase, what a nice surprise.
great sign they are normalizing the idea (no surprise given the RoI on HZD) even with how extrememely slow they are
I bought this but ended up refunding it. It was alright, just didnt really do it for me. I'd read it was a good x-com ish type game but i didnt really get that feeling when playing it.
tbh i am superbaffled how you managed to confuse this one up with xcomish type og game

Jupiter Hell was always marketed and kickstarted as sprititual successor to DoomRoguelike and its pretty much that but with actual graphics

I don't think so. Whoever at Square gets to decide how their PC release strategy works clearly doesn't care about the actual long term revenue, they just want to see cash as soon as possible. Going for exclusivity deals gives them that, and so they are happy with getting lower sales when it launcher on Steam at a much later date.
At least, that's the only way I can interpret how they have been avoiding day and date releases on PC consistently for so many years now.

Eff me, I want an Intel GPU. They might be less difficult to get than Nvidia ones. Hopefully...
Be careful what you wish for. Intel drivers are infamously bad for gaming. It won't matter how good their GPU's are on spreadsheet until they fix the drivers.

I mean, Square Enix is the company that took an exclusivity console deal for the second game only of the new Tomb Raider trilogy... so I don't expect anything logical from them in general :p

Specially after the huge loss they must have taken on that other "minor" mistake that was Avengers....

I didn't know about Intel's drivers, but I wouldn't be surprised if the dedicated gaming GPU's are gonna have completely different drivers from the integrated laptop crud.

Intel's driver were so bad because it was clearly a complete afterthought for them, especially running games on them. That's not going to be the case here, and Intel is still a much bigger company than either Nvidia or AMD, so they can actually invest in a big team to write and maintain drivers on this.

of course, whether it will actually turn out great or not is hard to say. But I wouldn't dismiss them out of hand.

Dinjoralo Apparently the implementation of Iris XE in the new laptop/tablets we're looking at buying is much improved over previous gens and way better than nothing which is what we can get from most of our suppliers when it comes to GPU options. The guy doing the benchmarking is pleasantly surprised by them.

Not to say they are earth-shaking or gaming juggernauts as we have only seem them in new tablet/laptops and i don't know what the drivers are like at the moment but Iris XE is looking good according to him.

wasn’t it recently leaked that the timed exclusivity deal SE signed for Rise of the Tomb Raider was valued at $100m? If MS offered even half that, I’d understand why they’d sign

Sell me on RF Armageddon. For the longest time I avoided it mainly because it is a linear shooty bang of the era of linear shooty bangs 🧐
Unfortunately my memory is pretty crap so I can't remember the details of a game I played a decade ago. You are right in that it's a third person shooter which was in vogue at the time, with the added gimmick of destructible terrain. Red Faction in general is a very average series with the destruction being it's only USP. The difference was that Armageddon was an average shooter and Guerrilla was a lousy open world game. What I do recall is that some of the more powerful weapons you get (maybe near the end) were good fun to use. I think there was some element of puzzle solving required as well by terrain manipulation and possibly these weapons.

Looking back at my screenshots also reminds me that it was a colorful game and not just following the brown-grey palette that was so prevalent at the time.

You play a lot of oldish games all the time, give it a shot if you're curious. I didn't feel like I wasted my time when I played it.

...because in their mind it is free extra money, and after the exclusivity period is over everyone else will still buy the game, plus you have double dippers, so technically you get even more money!

The unending stream of former EGS exclusives chilling out in the global top sellers list when they do finally release on Steam would indicate that it is, in fact, precisely how it works. The only games that don't manage this are the ones that would have been lost even if they had released on Steam first.

Kingdom Hearts and FF7R are destined to be on the top sellers list when they release as well. Even if KH releases at the same comical price they tried on EGS, which I suspect it will. As you say, they are not interested in growing an audience on the PC for these games. This is all just bonus money for them, and Tim Sweeney pays way more than any of us do.

An interesting looking game (I thought it was a VR game at first, I was wrong!).

Deathloop has gone from maybe I will pick it up someday to possibly day one. I think what I initially saw of it, I was not sure what sort of game it would be, but hearing and seeing a bit more, I am really interested.

Not really.

A really popular game entering the top sellers list when it is released doesn't actually provide much meaningful information at all.
Sure, it could be indicative of the timed exclusivity period not mattering. Or the game could be selling just 1/5th of what it would have sold at full price had it launched day-and-date on all platforms, and make less money overall even with the exclusivity payout. If it's a decently popular game in a not super busy time period it will top the bestsellers either way.

I've resolved to stop buying games, at least to often. I removed all deals sites from my bookmarks and will deactivate all alerts to my email.

I have so much shit to play and so little time to do it that it is in my best interest to just stop. I'll do my best to stick to the 'big' sales like Summer and Winter Sales.

Have u seen the trailer from last year?

You can mix stealth with direct combat and u get freakin force push/telekinesis to mess with people before shotgunning them
It does seem like this is more combat focused

This has elements of immersive sims

Kept some and deleted some.
Pc engine gamea at their best have lovely visuals and music

What i am trying to say is: if going thru your regular backlog gets stale, there is always that retro games backlog that can surprise you.

What you propose might be true, but it is entirely hypothetical. Maybe the games would have made more money if they had launched simultaneously everywhere. What isn't hypothetical is that Tim is paying out hundreds of millions of dollars to keep games away from Steam. What also isn't hypothetical is that these games are bestsellers when they come to Steam. The last 'big' game was the new Total War. All 3 versions of that game were in the top 10 when it came out. That's after Tim paid for the 7.5 million copies that were given away for free and whatever few copies they sold all year. Where's the downside for Sega? The next big game on deck is World War Z I believe. I'm guessing that's going to break 100k peak CCU on Steam. That's a game that's coming 2 years late after taking the moneyhat and then another big payout when it was given out for free.

3 years later, Tim is getting repeat customers for exclusivity deals (Borderlands spinoff) as well as new publishers (Square and maybe Warner if that rumor is true). Does that indicate that publishers are realizing that this is a bad idea for their business?

Personally, I can't think of a single game which we'd imagine would do well on Steam and then didn't because of an Epic exclusivity deal. The Steam community seems to be willing to buy the games anyway so at this point I think it would be stupid for any publisher or developer to turn down an offer of exclusivity if it were to come. Possibly the only exception is multiplayer/live service games that depend on user engagement which is one thing Epic cannot provide.

The question isn't about doing well. It's about doing much better. Borderlands 3 is a good exemple of that. It did well. Now did it launch day and date on Steam, it would've done muuuuuch better. And on top of that, there's the big titles that would've done much better numbers but also the smaller one which should've done good or decent and completly bombed.
Kingdom Hearts is a good exemple of that.

And I think Final Fantasy VII Remake will be another great exemple for this. A title that should've done over 120k CCU might end up at 30k.

There are very few repeated customers for exclusivity deals and it seems like Epic had to give a bit more for Tiny Tina since it weren't announced as timed exclusive with the announcements, other than that, Square takes exclusivity deals everywhere and a lot of other companies have rejected that accepted before.
