Ultrawide is attractive but there are downsides to it. I think somone here said they'd gone back to a more normal ratio monitor because of the Ultrawide issues with games especially and maybe watching media with black bars too. I was tempted too but decided against it when i bought my "new" monitor a few years ago.

I love ultrawide screens for productivity, together with a decent DE with virtual desktops it effectively replaces having multiple monitors for me, but I think prefer my screen at 16:9 or ideally even 16:10 for gaming. The more you stretch it, the harder it is to keep the entire screen in your cone of vision.

Black bars on the sides never bothered me. I've always preferred pillarboxing over stretching when watching 4:3 content on a widescreen monitor. I definitely need to look into it a bit more before making a decision, though. And turns out the model I was looking at wasn't ultrawide but super ultrawide. Comparing the two, "normal" doesn't look quite as impressive. 😅

Yeah, a dual monitor setup is what I've always wanted. I just figured with something that wide you essentially have all the room you could possibly need on the one screen. As for gaming, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't drooling a little at the propect of replaying Witcher 3 on a 32:9 monitor once the RTX upgrade comes out lol.

I spent some time debating whether to go Ultrawide last year and ultimately came to the conclusion that it is beneficial, but only as peripheral vision. Meaning if a 16:9 display were placed at the an optimal position, a 21:9 would be in the same spot, but with just more. That more would be warped quite a bit due to how field of view works, but again it's peripheral vision. If you were to lower field of view to compensate, you're ultimately just losing in-game viewing area versus a 16:9 at the original field of view. For non-first-person-view games it's usually just more space overall, which is pretty good.

What really sealed my decision though is that OLED is just too good, and its benefits far outweigh the added peripheral vision for me. And of course they don't make OLED displays in 21:9.

I can't say black bars on the side bother me. I'm always surprised by how many games support it out the box.

If you can handle the super res, it's worth it

It's not for everyone, though.

Widescreen Gaming Forum moved to Reddit:

The old forum is still up and is a trove of info:

There's also apps like "Flawless Widescreen" and "UU Unreal Unlocker" that help unlock widescreen resolutions.

PC Gaming Wiki has some info on widescreen on their individual game pages and some tools in their files area.

I think I mention this every time, but the one thing standing in the way of great overall ultrawide support is Epic. Unreal Engine handles it poorly out the box. I think it's the way it handles FOV by default (vert vs horz), and that makes some games zoom in when the res gets extended. Thankfully, it's usually an easy fix.

I think Persona 4 killed any interest I had for any other Persona games. It's just like, everything I don't like that seemed to be prevalent in PS2 era JRPG's writ in black-weight type.

Deathloop is hella fun, though. Really nice having an immersive sim where it feels like there's an actual balance between stealth and action, as opposed to "this is a stealth game that we will let you try to be aggressive in but thats bad and you should feel bad for doing it".

From the looks of it, Deathloop will have mixed reviews and there seems to be a lot of weird performance issues (I wonder if that's why Alex's video will come out later in the week since he wants to do more testing?)

It's just weird and I'm guessing most of their time was spent working on the PS5 version?

By the way does any one know if the game supports a second audio chanel? Death Stranding does this because of the BB thing and you could just use a little portable Bluetooth speaker and get the similar result to if you were getting audio from the dual sense controller.

ID PC ports I've been told are great but the same can't be said about Arkane from my understanding.

Here another confirmation (this time to confirm is not coming) for an entry of the leak, this time Halo 5, game is currently not coming to the PC so either the entry is old and the plan was changed, it's an entry for Forge mode (which I highly doubt) or it's indeed coming but our friend Brian is using the PR talk, in any case, details from official sources is always something good.

Then, was that entry speculative? No, I don't think so.

"We currently have no plans for this" is not PR talk lol

Saw the Eurogamer forums closed down with people going to Discord instead. As an old fart who feels Discord is a completely inadequate replacement for forums I'm just glad there's still some places like here existing. Even if I tend to lurk more than post.

Sorry to bring it back to Deathloop, so far it is an incredible game, combining Dishonored and Mooncrash into a new experience (Love the voice acting as well, been on point so far).

I have also had the weird performance issues though, seems like the frame rate is alright but still feels Jittery with mouse. Vsync in the options shows 74hz with no way to change it to 60hz.
They have said they are aware of the issues so I'm hoping there is a hot fix by the time I leave work.

That's what I really disliked in dishonored, why should I be punished to use lethal actions that the game itself provides me with??

Is there a way in Afterburner or HWinfo to know the temp where a NVMe SSD would be ?

Still interested in the Samsung 980 Pro IF it can be set up in a PCIe 3.0 slot and just be slower (I can't do a full upgrade FFS), but the product page on Amazon specifies 70°c for max working temp. As in heavy load my GPU is 70c and CPU can do 84c, the temp where the NVMe would be feels quite important.

Forgive me if I'm saying something wrong but those are normal SSD, not in the same spot on the Mobo ?
970 EVO is NVME drive, 850 EVO is standard SATA one.
But for the temp data to show up, you need a drive, so I guess you can't do what you were asking for.

Oh that's cool ! Just have to buy a 180 bucks drive then see if it half or full bakes ! :cuteblob:

Edit -
Jesus ! I was somehow under the impression that a NVMe drive went under the GPU, but no, it's just under the CPU. I mean, it's awfully NEXT TO my magma core :face-with-open-mouth-and-cold-sweat:

Those temps are with a (separate, $15) heatsink. Without it it got up to 100C under load.

Ahhh yeah, I forgot the heatsink of the NVMe drive. So you're telling me there is a chance ? :cuteblob:

Can I really have a 84c CPU with a NVMe under 70c, do I want to bet 180 on it ? :thinking-blob:

I've given up hoping for a persona 5 royal pc port now tbh
i mean, time will tell, i'm more on the side of it being likely (we're talking 7 Persona announcements, where none of them are merchandise reveals (based on the broadcast we got this morning), 1 of them is most likely P6, some of them are probs spinoffs, one of them could be some P5R animation, we still got a lot of room left here)

good reminder that the GFN leak missed out on several titles that should have been there, but weren't
some examples to point are Devil May Cry 5, Guilty Gear Strive, Black Mesa, a lot of Arc System Works games, greeaaat chance that some upcoming titles on that list were missing just like these ones

What motherboard do you have? It'd be REALLY rare for it to come without a heatsink on the M2 slots.
A quick look at a TomsHardware review confirms that the drive will work with PCIe 3 but will be slower, obviously and yes the drive does run hot so you'd need a heatsink on it.
