Either they're an Epic exclusive, or devs delay them by 2-4 weeks for troubleshooting reasons.

This one is following the pattern of "indie shown on Sony event = Indie that goes EGS for 12 months"
I think it makes sense since devs who are interested in exclusivity probably try to maximize their exclusivity amount. Going with Microsoft may shut the door on any other deal since Microsoft likely pushes both their console and PC platforms (as well as Gamepass). Whereas a Sony or Epic deal do not compete in the same spaces.

Found a work-around. If you have previously linked your Steam and Epic accounts, unlink the accounts to bypass the EOS pop-up.

Well Tomb raider 2013 trilogy is now Egsclusive, as you cannot launch into the single player portion at all without logging in to your Epic account.
I really don't like where this is going. Adding the requirement of a 3rd party login years after release is completely unacceptable. It's also still not clear which data is sent to Epic's servers.

I guess this is more preparation from Epic to get as many games and gamers in their "metaverse". 😞

It may or may not have been a royal fuck up ............. gosh surprise there

Due to some reported issues we have rolled back the earlier released patch build 1.0.1013.0 (patch#15) to build 813 (patch#14).

For those who wish to continue to stay on build 1013...'

Either way it is just another reason why all PC gamers should stand against the bull Epic is pulling> Sweeney wants to take PC Gaming down a very dark path that lines his pockets at ours and other developers expense and sadly too many people are falling for it for 10 buck fucking vouchers

To block EOS from sending telemetry and who knows what else to Epic, add this to your hosts file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts):

Weird how they only released Rise Lara on EGS.
Weird how FIST is not on EGS yet.
Weird how Naraka Bladepoint is not on EGS yet.

So either the devs/pub don't care or they have a hard time working with EGS.

Just to add some perspective, it took bannerlord 3 months (from march to June) to release on the EGS,
I mentioning that one because it was announced day 1 in the 3 stores but the EGS version got delayed for some reason.

LiS 3 was also announced for EGS, in that one trailer, but ended up being only on Steam.

Something for sure is going on, I just don't know what and I would really like to know.

I was curing as to whether EOS would force every game to be always online so I disconnected from the internet and tried Hades and Griftlands and they worked perfectly fine offline. I'm guessing Nixxes just screwed up the EOS implementation in the Tomb Raider games and that services doesn't require a game to be always online.

Maybe the Google trial will reveal all :evilblob:

Though at the moment, I speculate it is a death by a thousand cuts. With the store having a lot of manual parts to publish a page (e.g. self-publishing still in beta), having less purchasers than other platforms (i.e. less priority), requirements around features that likely add a bit of complexity (e.g. cross-play, achievements, etc.), publishers/developers holding out for a payment since Epic has normalized this expectation, Epic seeming like they want to give out a title for free from any publisher/developer new to the store (or at least prioritize those publishers/developers that agree to this deal).

Heck, I have speculated before that as Epic becomes a third party publisher, they are inviting other publishers to see them as competition. I think this part is still a few years from being a reason since Epic is still paying folks to put their games on the store.

If you’ve never linked your Steam and Epic accounts, you can launch and play Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider through Steam just as you always could.

If you have previously linked your Steam and Epic accounts, you will get a web browser prompt upon launching any of the three games, asking you to permit Epic access to your online game data.

If you click cancel on this prompt, you will not be able to reach the title screen of any of the games. But you can unlink your Steam account via your Epic account settings. If you do so, you’ll be able to launch and play the Tomb Raider trilogy just as if you’d never linked accounts in the first place.

noted on the document, I think prudis might want to add something on why this is a simultaneous PC release alongside PS when none previous game from this dev was like that ^^
yup , iirc in the original announcment they said PC will be later ....and becuase of that i prety much already expected some kind of playstation ecxlusivity like with Salt and Sanctuary .... so i bet if not for Timmy's moneyhat , it wouldnt launch simultaneously

It seems to be badly implemented. Should be able to play the game without logging into EOS no matter what
Correct, this is clearly a bad implementation.

What is funny is this kind of issue happened to me on PC GamePass in the past.
If the pop-up window which asks for permission failed to appear, I would be stuck on the title screen. No solution was ever found.

I think some devs assume that the pop-up window does not exist, or that the prompt always works, or that users never click "Cancel". :lul:

A grain of salt and you are stuck in limbo.

This is the company that made a remaster of a game and subsequently removed the original game from the store, except they never started selling the remaster. Almost every time they try to "improve" something, it results in some sort of monkey paw situation.

It's been 3 years an The Last Remnant still can't be bought on PC anymore... is what I was going to say but apparently they still sell keys on the Square Enix EU store - but not US.

Yes, I think they tried to do too many things at once (remove Denuvo, add EOS, fix bugs, etc.) and fell flat on their face.

Yeah my eyes glaze over nowadays whenever an indie is shown on a Sony stream since it's virtually guaranteed to be EGS exclusive.
its has always been the pattern since the creation of EGS,
i would say almost all of the scloosies are in these groups
  • sony-tied games (as they know they are suspectible for exlusivity and in need of money)
  • dev-hell games (as a last attempt to get them actually release without cancellation)
  • wellknown longtime devs who had their recent project fail miserably (as they need the money and often blame steam for their failure after years of Tim/Sergei twitter propaganda)
  • Experimental games by bigger teams which they are unsure about (experimental test publisher is unsure if will sell at all or unmarked early access ... to get at least some money )

I'm curious what kind of relationship Feardemic has with the EGS. Afaik, none of their games are even available in Epic's store.

It had a store page in the past, but was pulled. Pretty weird. Also still no Naraka Bladepoint and FIST.

They must either not care, have forgotten or find something with releasing on EGS to be difficulty. Could be that Epic is starting to require games to use EOS now and it is difficulty to work with it or the rules are strict?

I mean, I can't find the channel right now, but Epic has a YT channel where they release videos for devs and pubs about things, they released a video about EOS and how to use and implement it and there were a lot of comments about the rules being very strict at least.

No, but close: EOS is not required, but cross-platform multiplayer support is. In the requirements for being featured on EGS, there is this paragraph:

Requirements

All titles coming to the Epic Games Store that have online multiplayer must support cross-platform multiplayer with all other PC storefronts. This policy ensures that players who purchase a multiplayer game on the Epic Games Store can easily connect with other players in-game, regardless of where the game was purchased. Cross-play with other non-PC platforms, like consoles, is optional but encouraged.

[...]

While developers may use Epic Online Services (EOS) to support these requirements, EOS is not required; developers may choose any third-party solution-providers or in-house solutions to ensure the title meets the stated requirements. Learn more about Epic Online Services.

Cross-play Social Graph Options

[...]

In specific cases, Epic Games can consider solutions other than those presented above. For example: older games that only ever had minimal multiplayer support through simple server browsers, session codes, or other similar mechanisms may be able to use the same solutions on the Epic Games Store. These types of solutions are not best practice, especially for newer titles.

If a dev does not want to use EOS, and does not have the knowledge/competence/budget to make their game cross-platform, they are not welcome on EGS.

According to the trial documents.
If a game launches at the same time (or later) on the EGS it must implement "store cross-play" (if it has multiplayer) but if it launches first on EGS then it's just encouraged. And since epic offers you EOS as an option :evilblob:

Epic Games Ends Alternate-Friday Vacation Policy, Angering Staff
By Jason Schreier
October 22, 2021

Epic Games Inc. is ending a pandemic-inspired policy of granting every other Friday off, sparking an uproar among staff.

An internal Slack channel was filled with pleas from employees for the game publisher to reconsider. Several people said the extra vacation days had helped their mental health, allowed them to be better parents and even improved their productivity while working on updates for Fortnite, which is one of world’s most popular games.

Epic said the policy was always meant to be temporary and that the company’s goal was to allow employees and contractors to take paid time off on their own schedules. The company also closes for two-week breaks in the summer and winter.

“Right now, we are seeing lots of Fridays off for deep work, and lots of people who must work Fridays anyways,” Chief Operating Officer Daniel Vogel wrote in an email to staff reviewed by Bloomberg. “This meant that many people were not benefiting from this policy equally.”

But in a survey of 581 employees reviewed by Bloomberg, 93% said they had found the alternating Fridays off to be “extremely beneficial” and 61% said they felt worried, guilty or stressed when taking separate vacation days. Almost 90% of employees said they wanted to keep Fridays off as a standard.

An Epic spokeswoman declined to comment.

Shorter work weeks have become a hot-button issue across many industries as the pandemic leads to a widespread rethinking of how offices function. Already some companies are being forced to ease their remote work policies in an industry that long considered collaborative, in-office meetings sacrosanct. Studies have shown that workers can feel more rested yet be just as productive while working 32 hours per week rather than the standard 40 hours.

The video game industry, known for its long hours and brutal schedules, has begun flirting with shorter weeks. Eidos Montreal, a unit of Square Enix Holdings Co. and the developer of an upcoming game based on Guardians of the Galaxy, recently said it was switching to a four-day work week. Several independent game studios have also made the switch, such as Young Horses, the company behind last year’s hit game Bugsnax.

One Epic staffer wrote in the Slack channel that they had become a parent during the pandemic and that the guaranteed days off every other week were “an absolute game changer,” allowing them a guilt-free day for doctor’s appointments and other activities over the past two years.

“Epic is the best studio I have ever worked for,” wrote another employee. “But I simply don’t understand this decision.”

The employee wrote that unlike some other game studios, which have had to delay games during the pandemic, Epic has consistently released new Fortnite updates every two weeks. “The perceived gain simply can’t compare to the actual evidence of what we have already achieved over the past 18 months, which is more than anyone else in the industry could ever hope to achieve -- all with alternating Fridays off.”
