You can always trust Epic to go for the skeeziest implementation possible. They're not trying to ruin PC gaming, they are trying to ruin valve so they can replace them. They're a bunch of hypocritical money grabbers trying to give the impression that they're "small indie company" going against "big evil Valve". It'd be funny if it wasn't so slimy and cynical. They want you and your money in THEIR walled garden. they are not against monopolies, they are against NOT BEING THE MONOPOLY.

They suck basically.

So we have looked in to this. It's far more complex than first suspected -- EAC has two versions. Non-EOS and EOS (Epic Online Services). Most games historically use Non-EOS EAC. It's the one Vermintide 2 uses as well. Epic only added Proton support for the EOS version of EAC. Therefor in order to implement proton support for Vermintide 2, a huge amount of reworking of the EAC implementation would be required, which may also require all players to authenticate with Epic Online Services as well -- perhaps even logging in to the Epic environment (to be confirmed, however).

So the "just a few clicks" statement made in the original announcement wasn't entirely accurate, and would only apply to titles using the EOS version of EAC, which simply hasn't been many games aside from either pretty new ones, and likely predominantly Epic exclusive titles.

We are still looking at what is or isn't going to be possible, but it's not as easy as it was made out to be -- far from it in fact.

There may be other solutions or workarounds, but ripping out the old EAC and rewriting everything to implement "NuEAC" and potentially asking our entire playerbase to connect through and sign through EOS for an honestly tiny market share that was (and would remain) unsupported from the get go might be a deal breaker.

Time will tell.

Promising perfect work between different launchers was always going to be a shitshow because of two simple things:
-You do not have a partnership and you need to rely on public APIs. Using public APIs means that the interaction will always be a pain in the ass and buggy as fuck because your code is working on loopholes the APIs leave and not using them as intended, so a desync for whatever reason will fuck things up (or a slight change of how the API works but not its end results can fuck you up too).
-You have a partnership and can have more in dept h comunication with the publisher. Now here you rely on the partnership being in good faith and actively partnering with you when they make major changes to their service (and take you into account). Which in most cases they will kidna forget, so your partnership application will slightly get worse.

Now, once you combine that with the rest of the GOG (which you fully control) you end up having a mess of different levels of interactions that do not give a cohesive feeling, which was the full idea of Galaxy 2.0.
You are correct for some of the features, like the linked social stuff, syncing achievements and stuff. It is complicated and Rome wasn’t built in a day.

The thing is, some of GOG Galaxy’s 2.0 features (such as one launcher for all) have been implemented in other software. They really have no excuse for their poor launcher integration other than their software being poorly designed, and them not fixing it.

I know I go on about Playnite, but it’s predominantly developed by one person (with lots of extra features being made by the community), and its ability to hook into pretty much every PC launcher except EA Desktop (which, apparently, will come once it is out of beta) is outstanding. It pulls metadata from each store, or IGDB, or SteamGridDB, has advanced library management and sorting options and launches all your PC games from either a desktop or 10ft UI.

When add-ons are considered, you can also add games from GeForce Now and Game Pass cloud, pull achievements from anyone who offers them using the SuccessStory add-on, get instant access to how long the game is with the HowLongToBeat add-on, and lots more.

The problem with GOG Galaxy 2.0 is as much poor implementation of sound ideas as it is difficult problems to solve. GOG basically released the client in its current broken form and have not meaningfully changed how it worked. Meanwhile, open source software funded predominantly by Patreon has leapt ahead of it and does more improvements in a year than Galaxy 2.0 has done in its entire existence.

I want GOG to succeed because Steam shouldn’t be the only player in town and what GOG is doing is offering differentiation that is beneficial to gamers. But their client sucks ass and they’ve shown little interest in fixing it.

Obake PAM from PlayAsia released some 2021 PlayAsia milestones in her latest video and i thought some of them might interest people.

Switch imports were 2x PS4 imports.

They sold 2k Taiko drums at a loss - Free shipping lined up with a sale promo and they lost money. Bit of an oopsie.
( They said they sold so many they had to ask for more production so they could fulfillorders they were losing money on, ha. )

They released/published 36 PlayAsia exclusive games.

They released 30 asia english games.
( Physical Asia release with ENG lang included. Usually for digital only games in the west )

Nothing earth shattering but interesting for a minute or so.

I'm aliveeeee after two days of being delirious in bed and suffering insane sinus cold. I seem to be on the mend. Definitely spoke too soon when I said the other day "oh I think this is the peak." No sir, my cold slapped me down right hard the next two days lol.

time to see what the internet been up to. I'm excited for MH Rise to finally come to PC buttt I cannot afford it atm. :blobweary: My insurance kicked me at New Year, so paying for everything out of pocket atm. And everyone knows how memey American healthcare is when it comes to cost lol. Hopefully by Feb. or March i can find new coverage. (Of course many insurance companies are hesitant to cover me given pre-exisiting conditions IE: Crohn's and Colon Cancer.)


It sounds ridiculously cool, but that game has that strong Ps2-era energy like Oneechanbara or something, of a shitty zombie action game. Which is a curse and a blessing really.
Also they choose the perfect horror theme with the Japanification of early cyberpunk movements, certainly a terrifying prospect for some. One that is STILL ongoing in modern media nearly sixty years later...
Ah yeah my first thought was "is this the devs of Bullet Witch?" but it does also remind one of D3 works like Oneechanbara or SG/ZH.

How to unsell me a game.
The first one was successful but I still doubt it will take 500hrs.

Skyrim and Oblivion are still the largest singleplayer games out there with 300+hrs based off leisure HLTB.

They do have a big team and they've taken their sweet time making this one with the delays and everything so who knows. The first Dying Light is around 120hrs leisure so I really doubt they made the sequel 4-5x larger lol.

I think what they are saying to see everything you need 500h, since there seem to be so many branching paths many play through variations are needed. I will assume one playthrough is still going to be normal game length.

Maybe the game is full of static fetch quests or something. Maybe a lot of co-op missions/achievements which require replays etc.

But still to pull off 500hrs they would need a Witcher 2 ---> Witcher 3 type of jump. I don't really see it with all the footage/trailers they released.

Polish devs have been overachieving a lot this past decade so its possible but will be crazy to pull it off.

I really don't see myself spending more than 200hrs on anything this year except Elden Ring. It took me about 200hrs to 100% Nioh2, DS2 and DS3 so ER should be about same.

Starfield is also a possibility but it would have to be quality content with a lot of planets to explore and good side quests etc.

I suppose I should explain what I mean by 1 line reviews. I tend to mean the meme heavy reviews. But I am close to 50, so they tend not to be that useful to me.

Anyway.

Spent 4 ish hours playing Project Zomboid multiplayer. Seems to work well and enjoyed the game. First time playing it. I died many many times but had fun. From what I could make out one player hosts the game and has to whitelist players/send them an invite (maybe wrong as it was another mate hosting). So if they aren't online you can't play.

Also completed the first part of Pandaemonium on Final Fantasy XIV. The only one that is causing me issues is the second boss. Still died a few times to each of them. And the last boss appears to be cosplaying as Dracula from Castlevania.
Almost done with Tales of Arise. Fifth Tales game I've played and definitely my favorite.

I can't keep up with all these TV shows. Witcher, Hawkeye, Boba Fett... They're all so good. Hawkeye is really surprising me, it's so entertaining.
I was really surprised by how much fun Hawkeye was. But I always liked Hawkeye as a character in the films as well. Still not sure about Boba Fett yet. Enjoyed the first episode but not quite as much as The Mandalorian. However not seen the second episode yet. Only halfway through the second series of The Witcher, enjoyed it so far.

On top of that I still need to finish the last 4 episodes of Komi Can't Communicate (love that show, almost as much as Girls Und Panzer and Laid Back Camp).

nah, other computers have not experienced weird things even in the same room, its a very particular problem with that case

Even a second hand mid-range gpu costs more than a PS5. Jesus Christ...

Switch's portability is nice and all but the cost in image quality and performance is just too big for me, I don't play SMT for the graphics but this takes some getting used to.
Imagine if they released Switch 2 right now. The chip shortage and scalpers would have fucked over so many people.

Its funny but in terms of gaming hardware....buying the Deck this year may just be the only headache free purchase without bs markups. At least for those with a reservation. All these companies need to do the same thing Valve is doing. Take reservations by way of internal good standing accounts and stop letting stupid retail shit ruin the hobby for so many.

Man this always looks so great, so awesome mechanics and systems, hopefully the campaign/map design is on par with their potential and the games it's been inspired by. It might be the first game truly reaching for their greatness, even if stuff like Neon Struct and Filcher are also pretty sweet in their own right.

From what the Brawlhalla devs said, they just switched out their EAC SDK for an EOS one (where the only service they make use of is EAC?)

Epic will likely patch that ability out at some point Or fix the loophole somehow to get around this

Lol the 500 hours thing is almost 100% complete bullshit

it took me 144 hours to beat everthing in dying light + expansion and thats with restarting from the middle twice? ( once because I lost data, and once because they introduced an all new difficulty just when I started playing)

If you grab every collectible and do every side mission kind of thing but even then.

They probably just asked what their one of their producers playtimes was after beating the game and they kept doing shit "Oh im at or near 500" "Wow 500!"

People are being overly incredulous with this 500 hour Dying Light 2 thing. It's likely the number just comes from some simplistic mathematics where it takes 60 hours to complete the game and it has something like 8 different paths/endings and so you get almost '500 hours' to do 'everything'. That doesn't mean they expect everyone to play it for 500 hours or that it will be required to play it for 500 hours. It's just a number which is supposed to signify that it's a large game with lots to do.

And if anyone has played Dying Light, they will likely remember that the game has an insanely high level cap. They've been adding small DLCs and events and blueprints for years since it's original release. And while none of this counts as substantial content, they have kept their most engaged players occupied for a long time. I'm sure there are people with 500 or more hours in the game doing whatever it is they do in it. I just checked and the game had a peak CCU of 14k today against a lifetime peak of 45k. How many single player games maintain 1/3rd of their peak CCU 5 whole years after release? There's definitely something there that keeps people engaged. Maybe that 500 hour figure was for their most hardcore players. It's really not something that should bother people to the point where they decide not to buy the game because of it.

FWIW I have 51 hours played to complete both the base game and campaign in co-op with a friend. That was good enough for us. We tried that Hellraid DLC and that was rubbish.

Man, that penultimate area in Dead Cells with all the explosives is such a death trap. Why would I ever opt to go there again? I even got immediately hit with an explosive as I ported from one part of the level to another. There should really be a grace window there like when picking up stat upgrades :ripblob:

It really does start to look very interesting. I wasn't too impressed by the demo I played early last year, but the plethora of new features seen here already make this a much more interesting package.

Finished cold steel 3, when people said that the game finished with a cliffhanger ... that is not what i expected but I'm not sure if I can play the next just now, I'm not sure If I'm willing to play something so similar back to back.

That said I had a weird bug, It seems that it's a steam input bug but it's very weird the game was in permanent turbo state unless I disconnected the controller. It felt like it registered that it was constantly pressed. I ended up reverting steam to a non-beta release, but it's weird.

Playing Bound By Flame right now, and I am always sucked right into these Spiders games. They are like the Falcom of classic Bioware style RPGs, always a very similar formula.

Kidding aside, I do want to try more of Spiders' catalog because I know they have a hardcore fanbase - I own some of their stuff on Steam, but never made the time to try. If you were to recommend one of their open world games (not the Sherlock Holmes titles), where should I start? Technomancer? Greedfall? (I already know Bound By Flame, uh... isn't for me.)
Same. I keep getting hit in stupid ways. Those guys in the clock tower that phase in out of nowhere really did a number on me.
But I did manage to reach the final boss! Then proceeded to promptly get wrecked. Ouchie.
Have you tried experimenting more with some ranged-oriented builds? This helped me out a lot when I was just starting out with Dead Cells back in the day, the traps that shoot buzzsaws plus a decent ranged weapon can take you all the way to the end, maybe help you unlock all the base navigational upgrades and learn boss patterns before you roll a full-on melee character.

I like Technomancer. You can very much start with that one. Mars War Logs is kind of a prequel, with large parts of the plot taking place at the same time. Mars War Logs was Spiders first big RPG of this type, so very rough around the edges and Technomancer evens out a lot of those edges. I find it helpful to keep in mind that this is a very small developer aiming for something very ambitious, and coming very close to their goal more often than not. Be prepared for lots of backtracking though, lol.

Yeah, I'm aware of Spiders' background... back when I was on hiatus from PC gaming (pre-2015) I picked up a physical copy of Bound By Flame when I wanted an RPG of some sort for my then-brand new PS4. Back then it... really wasn't for me, but I have a much higher tolerance for Eurojank nowadays, and I can smooth over any tech issues by playing on PC (I hope so, lol).
