If this was just after TW3 I might have thought it's a mistake to switch but after Cyberpunk, I guess it's just not nearly as versatile and efficient as it seemed.

Interesting that CDPR is not only going to use UE5 instead of their own engine, but that they also entered a collaboration with Epic to help with the development of UE5 (worth noting that CDPR already confirmed that the new Witcher game will not be exclusive to any store).

Seriously, people need to learn how to read this shit, most already lost their minds.

That wording is not mentioning launch and is very specific

I'm fully expecting it's going to be available only on GOG and EGS so it's not exclusive to one storefront.
Could be, yeah.

On the one hand, I doubt CDPR thinks they can afford to skip Steam even for a year.

On the other hand. we all know how Epic operates. We know they specifically been going through the Steam top 50~ and picking and choosing acquisitions and partnerships like a shopping list.

But, I don't think anyone should really worry. Things can change in the next decade, which is how long it will probably take for this to get made.

Yeah, I'm sure they are going to ditch the store that made 1M ccu peak in 1 hour and sold over 10 million copies :|

Seriously people, DON'T GO CRAZY, C2077 storefronts? those will be the same for their future projects.
Epic is NOT paying that much money nowadays, they can't pay Witcher to stay out of steam.

Common sense is a thing they have shown to have little of, nobody thought they were gonna pulverize all the good will they had but Cyberpunk 2077 on console happened

plus I am paranoid :shrugblob:

"According to the Agreement, the Company (CDPR) has the right to develop and
distribute games based on Unreal Engine 4, 5 and further versions.

The agreement was concluded for a period of 15 years with a prolongation
option. It places no restriction on the number of games developed with
the use of Unreal Engine. It also provides for dedicated technical
support on the part of Epic for games published by the Company

Nothing really relevant but tells how much faith and money CDPR are willingly to put on Unreal Engine for the next 15 years.

REDengine has served us well over the years - it is the technological backbone of The Witcher 2, The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. However, after a series of internal analyzes, it became clear to us that we need to put more emphasis on the technological aspect and make it a central place in the development process Unreal Engine 5 and the related support from Epic Games are a platform that will allow us to focus on creative work and issues beyond the development of the engine itself

I'm not the biggest Witcher fan (mainly because I don't like premade characters in RPGs), but the Witcher 3 was pretty great.

I'm hoping it will be a new protagonist, with the ability to customize gender/appearance.

I think CDPR has incredible engineers, and using their talents to make UE5 better is good for everyone, but I hope that they are getting fairly compensated for it, because Epic will make a shitton of money out of their work.

Don't really care if they're switching engines but the whole "Unreal partnership" is making me a little anxious. This game likely isn't coming for close to another decade, though, so I'll worry about it if and when I have a tangible reason to.

Also, saw someone mention that they're announcing this to make people forget about Cyberpunk and now I can't get the thought out of my head. :upside-down-face:

I want a Cyberpunk Enhanced Edition so bad.... The DLC should've been out by now so the fact that they haven't even revealed it makes me hopeful there's more going on behind the scenes but I'm gonna need something this year....

They replied to a tweet specifically saying "EGS exclusive at launch = no interest from me whatsoever" with "We are not planning on making the game exclusive to one storefront."

plus, the press release states "technical partnership"

and if all fails, itll come to Steam a year later

really no need to panic

~

in other news, Sony acquired Haven Studios (the Jade Raymond studio)

They mentioned the Cyberpunk expansion in the Witcher announcement:

There is no new info here, though. We know it's coming, not why it's taking so long. I guess this implies it's not been cancelled. :p

Mostly, I just hope it's taking so long because they're doing massive overhauls to the base game as well. I vaguely recall a rumor that they were rebuilding many systems from the ground up and, yeah, that would be great. I enjoyed the game a lot but it's undeniably a huge mess, even after bug fixing.

edit: Actually, and I'm probably reading way too much into this, but I can't help but notice they're saying expansion, not expansions. I wonder if their plans changed and we're no longer getting two of them.

Yeah they're making it exclusive for TWO storefronts: GOG and EGS
That new Witcher game is probably several years away from release anyway.
Just like CP 2077!

I think it's pretty obvious why it's taking so long, the state of the game at launch.
They only just released the 1.5 update 1 month ago together with the PS5/XBox Series versions, they probably were too busy with that patch to fully focus on the expansion, but now that the PS5/Series version is out, they can probably fully focus on the expansion next.

Yeah, any and all concerns about the new Witcher game are premature (especially exclusivity). The actual game is likely several years off and who the flip knows what the state of the industry will be several years from now.

Tomorrow is the first day I have to go back into the office after two years. I know it has been a privilege to be able to work from home this entire time, but I am still annoyed I have to go in since I will no longer have an assigned desk and it is not like we have many in-person meetings to begin with. It is largely just going to mean more distractions, folks coming in sick and getting everyone else sick (now with added Covid), and worse coffee.

I hope that "not exclusive to one storefront" statement does not mean just EGS and GOG like bugisoft games aren't exclusive to EGS when they are available on bugiplay and it gets Steam release.

So yeah, I didn't post about it.

CORE KEEPER works without issue on the Deck, where you will get fps varying between 40-50. Didn't have it in me to put 8 bits colors and super low lightning so you never know.

CORE KEEPER is also boring, repetitive and extremely WYSIWYG. If you have any experience with this type of game, take 50 seconds to imagine it and voila, it's that. And despite all that, I put 16 hours or so already on the game, it already has a solid base and its success can only mean good things for its development. I feel zero buyer's remorse.

So satisfied was I with my EA purchase that I bought Lunacid the next day... and still have to try it. Damn, I have to do my play report to PossiblyPudding

According to several sources with direct knowledge of Ubisoft's plans, we can report that a big games showcase event from the French publisher has been in the works for some time.

...

We understand that a total of 20 games are lined up and ready for some form of an announcement in the near future - whether at the delayed event or otherwise - from brand new game reveals, to development updates, release dates, and trailers.
