Yet we have seen multiple smaller projects never making their way to PC under NIS umbrella, to be honest, outside Disgaea and Trails, I don't expect most of NIS content to come to Steam at all :/
Fair enough.

we have seen an uptick in releases from NIS recently with the various Collection releases they have been doing on PC & Switch. With La Pucelle, Rhapsody and Makai Kingdom all coming later this year. I know some of these have already been released so not sure on the exact details.

but yeah, some Japanese publishers still have a ways to go.

Don't get me wrong, I really hope I see a Steam logo with the western announcement but I don't see it happening if it's not done by a completely third party partner who handles the PC port and to be fair, Durante's company is hands full with Kiseki, so yeah, I don't know, I don't think we will see it.

Where is Wok ?
I tried to reach him out via Discord and while I won't disclose our private conversation to respect his privacy and thoughts all I can say is that he wanted to take some time off the website.

Might be a good deal if you don't own most of the cheap stuff and can get 5 games included "JOURNEY TO THE SAVAGE PLANET" which will cost about 4.50€ alone

As to Wok and JCB, I… won’t comment right now. But could we, on a related note, improve the ignore function ? I tried it and unless I’m misremembering we don’t have the same ‘this post in reply to someone you ignore’ label than the joint next door. It’s fucking disorienting when you are stupid like me and go who the fuck are you talking to for 30 seconds when you read a post like that.

Otherwise I would use it.

If they're quoting the person then it shows that prominently, if people reply without using such a function then the forum can't know who they're responding to.

It does seem to be a bit funky with the quote/reply buttons and multi quote functions but the basics work.

Yeah, it's how I want it to behave. Guess I misremembered and they were cases of people not quoting.
Bummer.

Those NIS umbrella games were actually Atlus umbrella games iirc, and back then they didn’t release anything on pc

Most of the NIS games that didn’t release on PC are rather obscure titles that (unfortunately) I don’t think would do well enough to get us a port, especially with those 40-50$ pricetags for things like Mad Rat Dead or Destiny Connect. And NISA has been pretty decent with their PC ports in recent years.

I bet locking it to EGS for a year helped those sales as well /s.

This is the problem with selling to the business rather than the customer. You may get that big lump sum. But you will either not get sales because you sold exclusivity to a platform people don’t like. Or you sell it to a platform that give the game away for free and then why would I choose to buy it.

there are times when it does work like Rocket League or Fall Guys, which were given away on PSN but sold well on PC. The difference there, they weren’t locked to epic exclusivity as well.

Curious if Oddworld Enhanced Edition extended the exclusivity period or if it's actually permanently exclusive.

“Because it slipped to April, we had the highest downloaded game on PS5 and it was, I think, approaching… close to four million units or something like that for free because they were all subscriptions. So for us, it was devastating”.
They got paid for the deal with Sony, now deal with the consequences of your actions.

This is a case of good old wanting to have the cake and eat it too, I find this kind of intellectual dishonesty disgusting.

That's what happens when you prefer selling games to companies instead of consumers. I hope other devs take note.
Basically this. But selling a game to PS+ alone is not a bad thing. We’ve seen instances where a PS+ hit has a knock-on effect on the PC version. Plus PS+ is generally not as frowned on because it’s not about exclusivity, it’s about giving subscribers the game.

It is a net positive for customers who choose to buy a subscription without a negative impact on those who don’t. That they mistimed their launch after signing these deals is on them.

The key is that they sold the game to PlayStation Plus and also Epic and basically boxed their game off from sales on both PC and PS5 by doing so.

So, played a bit of the new patch on FFXIV. Mainly wanted to see where the story is going.

What has been interesting and a lot of fun is being able to go into the content blind. Without the tanks going at 30 miles an hour because this the 20th time running the dungeon. Or swearing and cursing at the healer for letting you die only to realise they died 10 seconds earlier.

more importantly not having anything, even indirectly, being spoiled.

did my first dungeon which was quite fun learning what to do and how to react to the mechanics.

might even try the new alliance raid as well, which at this point is usually the more difficult content.

I also need to go back and see what the have done to the 2 MSQ dungeons and see if they are still great sources for exp.

There are plebty of games, also singleplayer games, that sold well on Steam despite being on PS Plus day 1.

I see 2 reasons:
  • Them being on Steam and not EGS
  • Not much overlap between PS and Steam audiences (hence why Sony are releasing their own games on Steam)

Nice little article on Eurogamer.

a sentiment I agree with and think should extend to a lot more games.

but more of a surprise is that they have an interview with Phil Fish tomorrow.

Done. Not even mad that it was relatively short, satisfied.

(now, I have some real criticism about the game, but that wasn't the point of my post)

If you want to invest time in it all you have is to attempt and master the mechanics on higher difficulties, it's a lot like Bayonetta in that way, if a bit less polished and shorter. I wouldn't say it's overrated, it's not Plaitnum's best/doesn't match up to DMC either but it's better than their Transformers and other lower end stuff.
thanks, but i just prefer playing the game once unless there's radical different ways of doing it

mgr, you have to parry, slice, it's just something very linear
mgsv, which i have completed 100% twice, you could do whatever you want as long as you complete the mission, a good example could be of how you can stop a car transporting a prisoner; you could shoot everyone, you could get your horse to crap, you could plant your cardboard box in the middle of the road, causing the enemies to get out of their jeep and walk towards it in suspicion, you could put a decoy and lure them out of the jeep, you can plant a tank in the middle of the road, so many options

This is the sort of GAAS game I can get behind. To still be able to put out updates this far from its initial release must mean it is still selling well.

All it takes is to have the internet collectively hate you for like 2-3 years because they said you could do stuff like make dinosaurs fly around in spaceships and go to infinite worlds and whatever all lovingly hand crafted by their team of like 4 people delivered without delay on time

That game mythforce looked like complete shit - and I say that with the pre-empt of it has nothing to do with epic, it looked like they were trying to do RTWP shooter roguelike with 12 enemies and got confused or something

Note that it's more than that, as happens often with PS/EGS exclusives: it's also not on Xbox (for 6 months in this case), and not on Switch (though it doesn't apply in this situation).

Most of those deals go for a grand slam where it's not on Steam, Xbox, Switch, and "free" on Playstation.
While they only get a lump payment, rarely linked to the downloads it will make on the platforms (good for devs on EGS in general since nobody buys there, much less on PS with situations like this) while the majority can't even buy the game on their platforms if they wanted to. Who buys games when it's EGS and PS+ only? No-one.

But as I said for a lot of other games, it's not even that one game that is important, failure happens all the time.
The next project is the big problem, they barely even released with two deals, then failed later... who is going to bankroll them after that? I'm sure big IPs and big devs can still find cash somewhere, but I don't see why Epic or some such wouldn't bend their arms in the process. They don't have a reason not to when their investment goes poof yet again and they are even less likely to succeed for the next game.
Being bankrolled by multiple companies and failing hard isn't going to help anyone in the long run that can't show results...

Call me a cynic but this is much more about saving face to be able to survive mid-to-long term. They would be know as the guys who released NMS but by doing this they are becoming the guys who salvaged NMS, guaranteeing their next game(s) will sell.
Either way I'm happy people who were swindled initially are, eventually, getting what they paid for.

From what I could gather it doesn't help the fact the game isn't any good. They should thank their lucky stars they got paid in advance tbh.

personally I think they have long gone past that. Yes they had to do a lot of work to redeem themselves. But for me they did that about 3 patches in. They could have quite easily stopped there and moved on. To put this into perspective this released close to 6 years ago and this is the 20th named update.

I think that customers as a whole have gone beyond being interested in this shit anymore.
Its old, its tired, nobody gives much of a fuck if a company sells their games to another bussiness for proxy warring and we all just move on. Plenty of games, limited time and all that.

Leading to a situation where, when the game finally arrives where the customers actually are, they have already gone onto newer games and any residual interest already dissipaited.
Customers that have been used as a second bite at the income stream just don't want it at full price because they were already treated like shit.
Customers will wait for a heavy discount and any real interest they had in the game is long dead. Killed by the company itself.

Any whining from a dev or company about it is just lololololol.

PSA: the steam cloud is pretty stupid.

I uninstalled ProtonGE, and somehow that reverted my local save of Elden Ring to an ancient one. I'm not getting into how that happened, my rig is not the simplest, when you play with multiple OSs and compatibility layers sometimes shit happens, I'm not mad about that.

What I am mad about is that Steam cloud instantly decided to go with the older local save, and overwrote the fresh one that was in the cloud. No questions asked. OSs and whatnots are irrelevant here; it's a basic timestamp comparison; how can that fail !?

Fortunately I'm paranoid and run a save script before and after each session in any game that does not allow you to have multiple saves, creating a timestamped archive in a safe location (and I keep the whole history indefinitely). So in my case the problem was easily fixed by restoring my latest archive. But without that I would have lost a large amount of progress.

Never trust the cloud.

Steam Cloud really needs some form of version control to make it easier to revert and/or avoid accidentally overwriting stuff. Even something as simple as deliberately deleting/overwriting what's in the cloud with a manual backup involves a stupidly convoluted process.

I think that problem might be due to Proton GE, because I had the same thing happen. glad you had backups – i didnt ;)

someone posted on reddit about it too

I didnt know about the PS3 game so I was just mildly confused by the Store page not matching the key art. Took me a while to even notice the different titles. Is "Folklore" a revered title or something? Never heard of it before.
It's a rather niche and obscure PS3 game. Only played it for a few hours but it was good and looked pretty.

It is directed by the same guy who did Street Fighter 2, and produced by the co creator of Shin Megami Tensei and Persona.
