I fucking knew it

Fuck you Sony and fuck the Playstation ecosystem. Im so glad I bought a Rift and bought all my VR games on Steam. I have a PSVR and thanksfully only used it for exclusives.

This is insane. I started building my own PCs a little over a decade ago and my current GPU is the first non-EVGA one I buy. In hindsight, I'm kinda glad I changed. Really hope their recent customers aren't going to get screwed on their warranty. That would be one hell of a way to go for the company with the reputation for the best support in the business...

What the actual fuck
Having watched the video, this seems like a complex story, and the personal reasons of the CEO seem like a major factor here. It does feel pretty shitty to EVGA staff that they don't get to hear about this sooner, honestly.

That being said, I do wonder how Nvidia and its other partners will react here. I could see Nvidia doubling down on the Founders Editions and really trying to become more like Apple and control both the design and manufacturing and distribution.

I am no expert but I strongly believe that this was a major reason that killed 3dfx, and would allow AMD to grow a lot, IMHO.

Optical switches for mechanical keyboards? Oo

They any decent? Still tactile?
"optical" refers to how the switches determine if they are pressed. With "normal" mechanical switches, you move piece of metal into the PCB to close a circuit -- pretty much how light switches work. Optical switches use optical measures, light being occluded I would assume, to determine when to actuate.
Aside from that, there are no differences. The things that make linear switches linear, tactile switches feel tactile, or clicky switches produce a click sound have nothing to do with whether they are optical or not.

That being said, I have never used a board that supported optical switches myself.

Update for those wondering the Steam Deck booth seems to be a smash hit at TGS.

It seems to be one of the more popular booths at the event.

It seems like they did a great job with the booth and in a lot of ways it's very different to all of the other both, seeing how all of the other ones are all "busy" in a visual sense (overloading your senses, and also having a lot of distracting stuff). Meanwhile the both pulls one in with one key visual being the huge Steam Deck (there are also side panels that have visuals that change as well around that huge Steam Deck that pull your view twords it. The overall process of getting in and out is pretty simple and seems to help move theine very quickly (in other words it's very well organized). As I have mentioned before the "open air" (cafe style) of allowing people to sit where ever they want also helps pull in eyes of what you will be doing if you go to the booth

In contrast it seems that the Facebook Meta Quest is rather disorganized and you have to wait for over 2 hours!!!!!!!!! So that seems to be a very frustrating experience even though they are advertising it everywhere like crazy at the event.

Also some stuff about the Deck in Japan, it seems that the price is a rather touchy subject. The Yen is weak right now and because of it Valve has to sell it at a higher yen value in order to be close to the USD equivalent and for Komodo to be able to get their cut as well.

Eric brushed this off in a way at the IGN interview and mentioned how he things that the value that the product brings is well worth the price.

Had the Yen not been in a bad spot and the thing was only like ¥5000 more than the Switch EL then the Steam Deck 64GB would be sell like hot cakes in Japan to those that are interested in getting into PC gaming and more importantly for those that are sick and tired of waiting to have the opportunity to purchase a PS5.

That is all for now.

Just a few more hours until the true test.

As of now it's been business day but starting "today" it's general public day where an average Joe who has purchased a ticket can attend the event.
