Well, here is an email that I never though I would receive:

"SpaceVenture - It's Here!"

The kickstarter was ... f*ck... 10 years ago??

It's a 1.44 GB download from itch.io.... really curious what it looks like (I stopped reading the updates a loooooong time ago). Will probably pay tomorrow.

Still debating if I should replay FF7 or tell my ocd to go fuck itself and go straight to the remake.

The thing is, I have issues with early 3d and find FF7 character models relatively repulsive. But on the other hand my only playthrough was in French and that version wasn't translated from the Japanese but the English script. Hilarity ensues. Or more accurately, nothing made sense.
And to top it off I'm very good with the streamlining of modern JRPG, with far less of a need for a guide on the side. Try as I may, FF7 feels like I will have to follow one to not miss quests, characters or materia, and this is as alluring as slapping my balls on a table.

And OCD, OCD, it has its limits. If we go full OCD, then I have to play not only FF7 to enjoy the Remake, but Crisis Core too...

FF7 Remake is not a like-for-like remake. To avoid too many spoilers, it’s more of a complimentary game to FF7. Possibly even a sequel of sorts. Yes, the events are the same, but the ending of Remake absolutely does not correspond to the event at the same point in FF7 so I’m not sure how to explain it without going into spoiler territory.

Outside of any spoilers, the biggest impact FF7R had on me was how hard they went on the nostalgia, and various callbacks.

As a result, it has a lot more impact when played with full knowledge of FF7 - I'd strongly recommend you play the original first.

Edit: If you dont want to read a guide, just wing it. FF7 is a fairly straightforward, streamlined game.

Edit 2: And, no, you dont need to play Crisis Core before FF7R.

I oversimplified my sentence, I meant that if I play FF7 before FF7R, I should play Crisis Core before Reunion.

I'm pretty curious about this big change that people are alluding to. I can only suppose that the one who bites it in the original doesn't. Maybe it's more than that. I'm cool keeping it that way and having a surprise.

damn yeah yeah there definitely is toons of callbacks to the DNF 2001 trailer
I was more caught off guard by John Blade being in there. Sin wasn't tied into the Duke universe back in the day, was it?

Sure. Sadly I am not going. The ticket must be purchased online and it was too troublesome and privacy-invading. Japan has all these sites and membership cards where you can sign up for, but I refuse to sign them up because I hate giving so much information to big corporations.

23 (or 22?) games installed on the Deck at the booth
Maybe next year we band together to get our own inside person to tgs.

You don't need to play Crisis Core at all, honestly.

I'm going to play the shit out of Crisis Core Remastered when it comes out this holiday, but thats only because I'm a big fan of Tommy Wiseau's The Room.:grinning-face:

They're thematically similar!

Yes, its a bit more than that. You're better off not knowing. :coffee-blob: Now go play it! It's still a good game in 2022, warts and all.

I'm guessing that the TGS event is a real test for the Steam Deck, seeing how some of them have had freezing issues. But those are quickly replaced with new one.

I know that Korea has G Star which is in November as their version of E3/TGS. I'm not sure how popular UMPCs are in Korea though. PC is very popular in Korea but it's mostly MOBAs and MMORPGs that Korea is known for. On top of that PC Bangs are a very popular and affordable way to play PC games. From what I recall the amount of Steam Users in Korea is double that of Japan but that's doesn't mean that twice as many people buy games from Steam in Korea.

February is when the big TGS event takes place in Taiwan.

ChinaJoy (is a big game conference held in China) wouldn't be until July 2023

So I'm curious if they would also have a big booth at those events if they choose to go there, or if there truly was a one time thing (in the US Valve is not going to have a Steam Deck booth, in London next week there will be a Steam Deck booth how ever it will not be hosted by Valve or Komodo but rather by Rock Paper Shotgun who will be operating the both.

So if anyone in London games to that booth and wonders why it's poorly run and other technical issue and stuff well know you know.
-------
Funny how Komodo did have a booth at Bitsummit last month and while Bitsummit is nowhere near the scale of TGS you still had people going there.

So you could have gone to the Komodo both last year and maybe even had 20 minutes to try out the Device.

Why make a new account, if I may ask? Did you want to change the login name? I hope you didn't have too many games in the old account. :blobmorning2:

I wonder actually, is it possible to change steam login if one contacts support. I imagine some people may have used their real name or surname and then if that changes for any reason it might be nice to change that.

I don't believe it is... Sadly, the account name is probably the primary key in their database...

Steam will change your login if it’s one of the old usernames (which were email addresses, and not necessarily one you have anymore) but it’s not mandatory and it’s more an exception to the rule.

The username cant be changed currently and i wonder if they ever will allow that.
Did not have too many games since i only fully came back to pc gaming at the end of July. (have not started my backlog hoarding yet) 😅

Okay for better or worse it seems like Valve did sort of shot themselves in the foot a bit but saved themselves a bit.

Queue wait time was estimated at something like 80 minutes and st one point even at 100 minutes. How ever in reality it seems like the wait time averaged closer to 45 or so minutes of waiting in line. This put people off from trying the device but also made the lines shorter as well. If you really wanted to try the Steam Deck then you would potentially wait for 80 minutes and if that seems too long then you don't join the line at all, otherwise the line would be even longer. If they had longer wait times that would also potentially mean even more people.

I'm guessing that when the Steam Deck was designed and stuff that it was not really designed with the TGS booth event in mind and instructions on how to use the device were rather bear bones. So you would get device that would freeze and the visitors would not know how to fix the issue. So given the capacity of how many visitors they would have per day and how people likely didn't exist out of games properly could cause issues.

Later today will be the last day of the event.

As far as panels go the only one left that I know of is the skin applying one. Seeing how the Skin is Gundam themed I'm not sure how that would be viewed by Sunrise and others

not that I know of, no! That bit confused me a lot, too. The Bombshell/Ion Fury universe is if course its own thing and removed from the Duke universe, despite all the very clear+obvious similarities, like GDF instead of EDF, Heskell instead of Dr. Proton....

which makes it more confusing that you get the SiN crossover stuff AND the very obvious DNF2001 trailer-inspired...trailer. But hey, I'll take it. I liked both Bombshell and Ion Fury and will certainly play this – and hopefully they will still release Ion Fury Aftershock as well! 3DR likes announcing stuff, theyre a bit slow releasing stuff... the "new" 3DR seems similiar to the "old" 3DR in that respect. ;)

EDIT

I just found this Twitter thread explaining some stuff:

Played through A Plague Tale these days and it sure was refreshing playing a shorter game that you could just knock out in a few sessions. I've been playing only really long games these days :grimacing-face:
Really enjoyed my time with it. Some sections were a bit annoying, but overall it was really cool.

And after all the Yakuza and Yakuza-adjacent thingamajigs I've installed Yakuza 4 on the Deck
Seems to work great :evilblob:

Plague Tale was pretty enjoyable. It definitely had some jank and could use some improvements but I liked what it was doing. I'm hoping the sequel is able to improve in some of those areas. Definitely looking forward to that coming out.

Speaking of Yakuza, I'm on Chapter 8 of Kiwami and trucking right along. I've found that dropping the difficulty to easy is the right move for me. The normal difficulty just seems to make the enemy health bars way larger and it's not really fun for me. I'll turn in my gamer card if I must.

Fingers crossed it keeps working for you. At some point in the second half of the game, Yakuza 4 on the Deck just started to hang for me. Kept taking an infinite time to load cutscenes. I wonder if the problem was the restoration mod I installed, since it only happened in videos that involved the characters that was face-swapped.

The future is here.
With the Deck AND the wall mount you don't need to hold the Deck anymore! What a novel concept.

i lied I swapped to jp for bravely default 2, i cannot stand the english dub one minute longer.
I didn't find the previous 2 games this bad dub wise and I feel like it affects everyone but the 4 main characters, the rest seems to be reading their lines out loud or something.
