Signalis isn't the most perfect indiegame i've ever played, but the way it mixes the atmosphere of Silent Hill with a massive dose of "Yes, we've watched Neon Genesis Evangelion" in front of a German Space Communists setting is amazing
I gotta pick it up since I'm a massive Nihei fanboi and it's very visibly influenced by his style (they've stated as much officially).
But so much to play already :blobweary:

Edit: Just as I type this, I get an email from Humble that Signalis is available for free for Choice subscribers, lmao.
Well, gotta take them up on that even if it isn't a Steam key (It's available via their own launcher thingy) .

Ain't no game that has an easier time pulling money out of my pockets than MTGA really

What is that ? Explain !
I thought MTGA was vanilla cards only, and by vanilla I mean no crazy collab or anything.

My disposable income is sweating buckets right now.

It varies, the Godzilla cards are fully avilable ingame for example as are some Shinkawa and Yamano cards.
The Junji Ito and Shinkawa things above are just card sleeve cosmetics tho, these particular cards ar enot in the game (yet?)

Its also very influenced by Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Deadspace, NieR, Evangelion and Ghost in the Shell, it's wearing its influences on its sleeves and that's great.

Fwiw, it took me only 7 hours to beat it.

As great as Alyx was I still would rather Valve focus on non VR for their next big single player outing

whenever that May be 🙄
Alyx seems to be the first time in a long while that anyone at Valve seemed genuinely passionate about making a game. There's also rumours and quite a lot of circumstantial evidence that Valve is working on a new headset. My guess is they are developing Alyx 2 (or whatever the next Half Life VR games gets called) alongside this headset, and they'll drop the game some point after the headset releases.

Perhaps the success of the SteamDeck might get some people at Valve to figure out if they could make PC games that make specific use of it. Nothing "exclusive" just something where playing on the go somehow elevates the experience, perhaps also making use of the gyro and things like that.

Otherwise, I don't get the impression anyone at Valve really cares about "typical" single player games anymore.

CRAZY TO SEE!

Last Week:

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II was a big release on Steam, how big? It dethroned Steam Deck after 21 consecutive weeks at top 1. Not only that but game also reached a CCU peak of 247,8k players. It is a juggernaut and it shows why Activision decided to come back to the platform.

Victoria 3 also had a HUGE debut with 3 SKUs out of 10 + a 70k CCU peak and a quite good reception (except for hardcore fans who didn't like some changes) Persona 5 Royal also continues to perform at 6th. Awesome to see.

As a bous:

Just finished Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception and boy. If you'd ask me an hour ago I'd given it a 10/10 but that ending has left me incredibly unsatisfied.
Yes, it provides a very interesting setup for the next game, but it feels incredibly contrived. All this incredible buildup and then they go and handle it like this. Ughhhhh.
If you'd ask me an hour ago I would have told you that I'd say Prelude to the Fallen is an overall better game because it tells a full story, and Mask of Deception is clearly only the first half of a full story, but I would have said Mask of Deception was equal or better to the first half of Prelude to the Fallen.
But now, I dunno man. I mean I'm sure I'll come around once I play Mask of Truth and all, but this ending has just left me very disappointed in the moment.

Fuck Nekone, goddammit. She's always been a little shit, but it was fine when it was played for laughs. It is not fine when she basically turns into a plot device whose only job is to make the stupidest decisions possible at any moment and fuck everything up for everyone else and no one else doing anything. But hey, good job Nekone. Your idiocy managed to get your brother killed, one of the best characters in the game. Good fucking job.

Warzone 2 will be massive. I said 400k-5o0k, but I might be vastly undershooting it (like every one of my other predictions :crying-face: ).

Also Sackboy just plain flopped. I don't think Returnal will do that much better when it comes out, especially if they go with the $70 price tag.

My favourite among the games is MoD because, without spoilering anything from MoT, is the most "relaxed", Haku just wants to live a peaceful life and but here he is crawling from one mess into another because of other people, also the team is getting to know each other and it's super cozy
And I found Nekone annoying as shit in all the games, I really hated her.

MOD Spoiler don't read Ascheroth : which kinda made me disconnect with Haku every time he was going all POOR NEKONE OMG

Sony should completely skip October-December period if it's not a big one a la Tsushima. Smaller games such as Sackboy and Returnal will get buried by the crazy amount of big titles coming out at this moment of the year and, sadly but true, there's just a limited quantity per person to spend on games, so...

Oh wow, that short? I played around 3 hours yesterday (just beat the first boss), and while I really liked it, I did not want to continue without Steam achievements. But when it is that short, I'll finish it on Humble, it IS stylish...

My brother, I would think having played Sky FC all those years ago would prepare you for this. :flare_lmao:

(MoD ending) Sadly, Nekone didn't share the trust everybody has placed upon Oshtor and his powers. I'd chalk it up due to Nekone's age and Osthor didn't really have the chance to have a sit down with Nekone just to say "hey you should trust me because I've carried through every single thing I promised so far"

FC's ending hurt, but was great.
MoD's ending hurt, but was stupid.

Like, I get it rationally. But I don't wanna be rational about it. I hate it.

something to cry about
Surprising how basically AWS is the only thing keeping Amazon afloat, basically, even though it's only a small part of their overall revenue (20B out of 127B), it makes up for basically all their profit. I don't understand what this "Other" is that is being deduced from the 5.4B operating profit from AWS, but the overall message really is that AWS is the only thing actually making Amazon more money than they are losing.

I'm currently playing Death Stranding too and I also thought that those things would annoy me, but fortunately, they appear rarely and far apart ( at least for now, I'm at chapter 5), and they are also pretty easy to pass through. I'm more annoyed by the MULEs than BTs, to be honest.

I'm surprised Macs are bigger than iPads

I'm sure that's been the case for some time (really feels like the age of the tablet has kind of come and gone) but I've never seen hard numbers for it before
Which is why it's a shame to me that Sony got rid of VIAO (well sold it) because of that period of time (2010-2015 or so when it was assumed that laptops would be dead and that people would only be using either tablets or their phone. Then we got Ultrabooks and even better macs. iPad is still good from what I have seen but there is not as much need for it as their use to be, especially since there was a period of time when tablets were the high end versions of smartphones since there were even some apps that would only work on ipad but not in iPhone.

Just a drop down memory lane

I've been playing Star Ocean 6, and it's actually pretty fun. DUMA makes exploration a delight, and it's actually indispensable in combat. The gameplay reminds me of Ys a lot. In fact, I tried to play it a lot like Ys, with no healing potions consumed during combat.

Technically, it's pretty decent, although I have a small complaint since the EN localisation used a very small font size that is a little uncomfortable to read on a large-screen TV. Secondly, there's a bit of stutter during exploration. I recompile the shader once again from one of the menu options, and that seems to have fixed the issue, although I'm not sure if I need to do it again once the game opens up.

For Halloween, I played and finished The Exploration of Hob's Barrow. It's a nice little Point and Click adventure that didn't rely on jump scares, but rather an unsettling experience of descending into madness, akin to reading one of Lovecraft's works. The puzzles are alright, even though they are a bit on the easy side.

That's by design.
Amazon is not supposed to make (much of a) profit for Bezos, I mean there's still some competitors left to drive out of business/purchase.

For those who enjoy dungeon crawlers, Haunted Dungeons: Hyakki Castle will be removed from Steam on November 13th (since the developer is Japanese, the removal date is probably the 12th in most places).
It's a very curious take on the genre, so if it's the sort of game you like, here's your final chance to get a copy.

The Voidu 30% off coupon runs out very soon (BUY30). I ended up going with Rollerdrome for $13+. Seems right up my alley.
Do you know exactly when?

Since it's a single use coupon, I was saving it to pre-order Miles Morales (which was listed, but has since been removed). :)

On a side note, Voidu has the various Mega Man collections for next to nothing.
For those that don't own them yet, they are well worth a look.
So many other games try to copy the formula, but here you can get the "real deal", for quite a low price, and you'll probably be paying less for a collection of various games than what a "copycat" would cost you.

I know many people didn't play Mega Man 9 and 10 yet (done by INTI CREATES), and for those who enjoy the genre, they are a must play.
Mega Man 9 actually tied Mega Man 2 as my favourite games in the series (I'm a classic Mega Man fan, much more than X and the following franchises).

And for fans of "metroidvania" games, the ZX series (part of the Zero/ZX collection) are well worth a look.

---

Oh, and the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is also at a great price (after the discount code).
Well worth it, for 3 great games, that will last you for quite some time. (y)

Fiendish JCB is Mega Man 11 any good?
It is enjoyable, but I admit I have some very mixed feelings about it.

You see, I'm really "attached" to the 8-bit look/sound/controls for this series. Mega Man 9, with its "downgrade" to the original formula/look, was pretty much a dream scenario for me. It's one of those cases where I just appreciate the "minimalism" of the earlier games. I'm not even a fan of the charge shot mechanics that were introduces in later games.

To me, Mega Man 11 is a disappointment, because it just feels "off" to me.
Again, nothing really wrong with the game, it's a matter of personal preference.
The game is pretty, but I prefer the classic look. And, it somehow feels less responsive to me (which I'm 99% sure there's nothing actually wrong with it, I just struggle with the additional animation frames). And, the soundtrack does nothing to me.

I'm sounding extremely negative, but again, it's a matter of personal preference, and I just happen to prefer the classic look/mechanics.
A lot of people loved it.

If the game wasn't called Mega Man 11, but was a spin-off, I would probably love it. :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:
But, it is Mega Man 11, and it meant a goodbye to the style they returned to for Mega Man 9 and 10.

Cautiously optimistic for this game. It looks like God of War reboot with a touch of Devil May Cry. It's one of the four remaining 2022 releases I'm anticipating (alongside Ragnarok, Tactics Ogre Reborn and Callisto Protocol).
