I mean it was shitty condition that any sane employee would argue to be cancelled, forcing developers to add achievement can be bothersome but adding extra coditions like 1000 xp as well?

There was a time that I was pissed off every time a new post in this thread appeared. But nowadays I can't stop laughing with all of this. How can a billion dollar company like Epic fail so hard? 😂
Was literally thinking the same thing when I saw this red bumps to the top of the message board.

Seems Epic's money hatting didn't only result in angry gamers, but devs weren't happy as well:
I'm half tempted to rebuy Anno 1800 on Steam, but I bought a bunch of season passes on Uplay last year so it really isn't worth the rigmarole. It did take nearly a decade for EA to come back and I thought Ubi would hold out several more years.

We need a clown reaction emote
Isn't there already a Tim Sweeney emote?

I'm tempted to buy Anno 1800 on Steam as well, but the thought of supporting a company like Ubisoft makes me feel uncomfortable. Perhaps I'm too much of an idealistic person, but on the other hand I have over 800 other games on my wishlist...
Somebody make a thread on ERA about that Anno post, pls.
Someone called you dex3108 😊

$10 coupons will never return. They were meant as a user acquisition tool and Epic was hemorrhaging money with them. They probably got as many users as they could with that promotion and are now trying to make the store profitable.
Watch everyone complain about that 25% just like they did last time. That 10$ coupon was great, but Epic shot themself in the foot with it.

I expect the 25% coupon is not long for this world either.
Epic will likely never stop doing coupons entirely, but they could lower the discount percentage or make them limited use.

That's just the type of clientele EGS has. I still see people asking for GTA 5 over two years later.

Im curious of Epics year in review. wonder how they did with 3rd party revenue. Might be a positive suprise for Epic, but I dunno, feels like EGS has faded into irrelevance territory this year.

While there were hardly any noteworthy exclusives this year, there will be a big boost in third party revenue due to getting more simulship AAA games (i.e. FIFA, Lego Star Wars, Dying Light 2, etc) and getting more big live service titles on the store (i.e. Destiny 2 and Dead by Daylight). The biggest contributor will be Genshin Impact which enabled Epic payment processing late last year. First party revenue will also see a nice bump thanks to Fall Guys. I'm thinking total revenue is in the $1.X billion range with third parties being between 500m and 600m.

I very much disagree and your predictions have mostly been wrong outside of MW2 Steam CCU peak for Warzone 2.

There will not be any big boost since, pretty simple, simship aaa games don't sell on EGS and games like Destiny 2 and DbD are not gonna be popular on EGS either.

Do we have any sales numbers that prove this? Afaik we have no clue how well games are selling on EGS. According to No More Robots, this seems to depend on the game.

It is hard to guess what sales are like on EGS. All these years later and it is still unbelievably secretive. We rarely get actual sales numbers. If we get anything it is usually percentages or sales performance relative to other releases, which half of the time come with a lot more questions than answers. Or even better, we get the millions who redeem free games and nothing more.

If nothing else, it still seems like this blanket of secrecy is probably indicative of general sales. No doubt there are sale successes on EGS, but I have to imagine a lot of games struggle to find their place on the store since it seems like the store has targeted F2P and/or multiplayer audiences. To be fair, I think a lot of games quietly struggle on Steam as well, but I do not think those same games would be any better served on EGS and would likely not even be worth releasing on the store.

Last year I think I predicted 400MM+ in sales and was absolutely shocked that despite significantly more games releasing YOY, the 3rd party revenue was nearly flat. Me being so far off, I feel like it seems harder to predict going forward. It feels like there were even fewer exclusives and more sim ships, but nothing is jumping out as a title people talked about on EGS. Like Arc said, if anything increases 3rd party, it will likely be things like Genshin Impact and the like moreso most of the games releasing on the platform.

We have the data from the trial versus Apple. The overwhelming majority of EGS exclusives sold like crap and they weren't even close to reimbursing Epic's minimum sales guarantees.

I don't know why anyone would play Genshin via the EGS, but iirc before they removed F2P titles from the top seller list it was always in there, so I expect it to make Epic a decent amount of money :/
Doesn’t the vast majority of Genshin MTX rev come from Mobile.

There are no official numbers for any platform, so it's impossible to say how much they make, but it's true that based on estimates it makes a ton on mobile for sure.
But that's not gonna affect Epics top seller list, only MTX done via their payment system would be relevant there.
I think Genshin on Egs is a miniscule fraction of its total revenue, but it still might be a decent chunk of total Egs revenue if that makes sense.

It was in a video interview around the release of Alyx on some Australian site, Gabe said he is a friend of Musk and they talk about space.

I remember quite awhile ago Musk had a twitter conversation with Uncle Dane, a TF2 YouTuber about playing engineer in TF2.

It was long enough ago that I remember thinking it was kinda cool this billionaire played the same videogame that I did. Before we really knew how unhinged he was.

It is why I wish more folks would have called out Sweeny for using the word tax for Steam’s fee.

Having billionaires complain about fees for services they use and likening them to a tax should have made more folks wonder why calling them tax implies those billionaires should not have to pay them... :smart-thinking-blob:

Also, if this is their public thoughts on service fees, for services they directly benefit from, then imagine their private thoughts on taxes going to services for others’ benefits...:fingergunsblob:
