Hey, remember the "good" old days when you had to hunt around the net for patches, most certainly having to sign up on various weird or sketchy sites to download the patches?
Let's make gaming great again since Steam destroyed PC gaming.

/s 😉
I remember waiting for game patches on magazine cover disks or on a BBS or even in the post. I hated Steam at first vs boxed games.

My friends will never not give me shit for my love of the Steam controller.

Where I see limitless possibilities, they see endless hassle. Somehow setting up custom controls for every game in my Steam library is a bad thing.

I'll never understand their logic. Those jokers don't even listen to Deftones.
You need to get new friends.

Most of it is just glorified blogging and/or advertising...

I like reading factual things about the gaming industry... not chunky bullcrap like "The best Hearthstone Rise of Shadows decks so far" or "Why raiding is the biggest reason to be excited about Destiny 2" taken from our friends at pcgamer.com, Unless the definition of "journalist" shifted to just "person who writes about things for other people".

Edit: I missed the last part of your message. I'm not aware of a pro-consumer rational website... When I want to deep dive into some more complex topic, I usually watch GDC videos or browse websites like Gamasutra. When I just want news I usually read the PC Gaming thread on Era (and before that, it used to be GAF)
Exactly, it's rarely ever critiquing the industry or games, and when people do it's either hailed as a great thing or the author is torn apart for not giving fans what they want (Metroid Other M review from G4 for instance). How can we expect these writers to bring a real critical eye to anything now if they never did beforehand.

I know the ideal "compromise" between you and OSatan : both Yakuza 5 and Yakuza 6 should be ported, and launch at the same time. ;)

My wallet might weep a bit, but I would gladly buy both. :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:
I mean apart of been Yakuza, the reason I need 6 is that I want to know how damn are they going to resolve the ending of 5.

So it would be nice to get them both, too bad 5 is a bad one to dump you in, 4 is the start of the new arc.

Didn't Valve recently file patent for it? It probably is coming.

Edit: https://patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/01/69/7f/e5c0594265db66/WO2018236966A1.pdf
Well, it's Valve, so I would never expect them to make something quickly. Hell, they talked about Revision 2 like five years ago, at least it feels like that long ago. I could see them "perfecting" it internally for another five years before it hits the shelf. On one hand it's kinda amazing that Valve has the time and money to work on whatever they want, but it does have the drawback that they don't have any incentive to stick to deadlines.

Just your daily reminder that Freedom Fighters is not available in any digital platform, even with IO holding the rights (apparently).
It's too bad. 😕

I don't know where I placed my disc, so I have been hoping for a re-release for ages.
I'm not sure how well the game holds now, but I had a lot of fun when I played it.

Would someone in the editing staff not have wanted that cleared up, or was it left vaguely worded for clickbait?
My time in games writing leads me to believe that either the press release they got was vague/confusing (this happens a lot actually), or the writer and editor just rushed through getting all the details right. It seems like a simple enough story so they wanted to get it out front of everything. It's a mistake that can happen pretty easily, but if you have any doubt about what's going on you shouldn't go running the story without looking for some kind of clarification.

It's just extra annoying that all of that probably happened during the already ludicrous EGS press machine. I'm not super interested in trashing the EGS store, but the constant media circus around it annoys the hell out of me and this only makes it worse.

Played it back in 2014, it held up okay. PC version had less features than PS2, but story mode was still fun. Of course, that was 5 years ago (!). If IO releases it on Steam / GOG, I'd love to see the features from PS2 and maybe some rework on textures / effects, but I'd be okay with just Steam Cloud and achievements.

Anyone playing this game, I HIGHLY recommend going for the Psychotherapy achievement, Its kind of insane.

I would happily take both, but it depends on how much SEGA wants my money I guess

steam controller looks so uncomfortable
I don't see anyone complaining about its ergonomic quality, though. Most often people (if they are critical of the Steam controller) just don't seem to like giving up on sticks and using the pads, which seems like something that you would need to give some time before really passing judgement.

i believe they only own the IP, not the game itself (as in: they can make new ones if they want, but they can't re-release the old one because EA owns that)

the solution is to have a mouse + pad hybrid, obviously

I attempted to play Prey (2017) with my 360 controller... Apparently, you are forced to activate Steam controller API to use a controller in the game. So I had to exit the game, and activate that for the game. Back in, the official 360 controller profile designed by Arkane is loaded automatically!
"Nice!"

I end up in the menu, I can control the mouse pointer with my right stick. "Interesting choice..."
I then find out, I am completely unable to click on any menu button, since "click" is not mapped to anything on the controller. "That sucks."
I double check the controller profile, can't find anything mapped to clicking. Re-import the profile. No dice.

I decide to load my old save using the enter key.
Game loads.

I can controll the camera fine with the stick, except the sensitivity is off the charts. I then attempt to use... Well, any button at all on the controller.... NOTHING works.

Nice "official" controller profile. I check PCGW, and it list some kind of controller hack mod you can enable to force the game to use regular Xinput instead, but that it shouldn't be needed, since the controller issues "should be solved" since some patch...

It's just a very sloppy implementation on part of Arkane. I used that mod too, mostly since the camera controls are so bad in their implementation of the Steam Controller API. It's hard to describe, it's like they are only polling at half the frequency or something, and it ends up feeling super latent.
With the "mod" (it's really just restoring the existing Xinput support) it's pretty great though. No clue why Arkane bothered with the new API if they can't be arsed to properly test it.

Have with Prey, you are in for a treat.

... and be sure to play the real Prey (2006) as well!

Yeah, I'm on the same boat.
Months of silence, pre-order page removed, and that whole speech. It's pretty obvious this will be yet another EGS exclusive.

Oh well, if they don't provide me with the promised Steam key, I'll do like I did with Phoenix Point: I'll ask for a refund.

Epic Games: saving me money since 2018. :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Yeah, I think I'll try the mod. I mean the game is released on consoles so why not use the existing Xinput configurations?

Oh I know. I started playing it last summer and really liked it. I just got a bit bored when I reached the Power plant I think? I think I'm about halfway through.

Where in the world would I get that game from? 😛

That's a possibility indeed. I really wanted Homefront The Revolution to do well so someone might feel that it was the right time to continue Freedom Fighters.

well tbh after playing alpha i got soo dissapointed .... the good rune fighting was definitely there if bit rough around the egdes , but the rest of the game kinda felt like poor mans budget "Conan Exiles" with Nordic skin on it

that's the thing - they did ... when it came out it just had the standard xinput implementation ... but then a few months later they replaced it with steaminput, for some reason ... and here we are now

Where in the world would I get that game from? 😛
funny thing this - if you can find a physical copy (they're fairly easy to find), the key from it will activate on steam :)

I was interested in maybe getting Typing of the Dead: Overkill if it got on sale, but then I looked into it and it seems to be an ass-tier port. You have to choose between post-processing and being able to render at a resolution above 720p. The original Typing of the Dead also looks like it could work as a serious typing tutor, with things like a drill mode that shows you what keys you're slow with, something Overkill doesn't seem to have shot for. :neutral-face:

I love watching Paradox games' livestreams and videos because when I understand something that is happening I feel really smart. Like when I managed to send some kid (my son I guess) to someone else in Crusader Kings 2 so he could be tutored by that guy. That doesn't happen very often though.
