At the rate that these guys are going at it's now wonder that their games are not out on consoles. They have made like 17 games now in under 6 years now? And that's still between just two brothers it seems.
yeah, they're absolute machines! :D

So after reinstalling Windows 11 recently I decided to try the Forspoken demo again (it causes BSOD before) and, well, it’s no surprise to me that the hate is overblown.

With high settings and DLSS Balanced I got an excellent 4K image at 55-70fps (acceptable since I have a VRR display). Graphics were great, and I didn’t notice any stuttering.

My main issue is the gameplay is just so-so. By no means terrible, but rooted in the worst AAA excesses of a bland open world and a bunch of skill unlocks, crafting and upgrading that was boring when it was contrived and is still boring over a decade later.

I didn’t really get the ‘cringe’ of the protagonist’s dialogue. I guess I didn’t find it off putting but then I wasn’t looking to be put off by it because I don’t care that the protagonist is a black woman, but I guess I can see how it’s not to everyone’s taste, even if the reaction to it was a horrendously overblown.

The game has ‘Solid 7/10’ written over it.

Would I pay £65 for it? Nah.

Would I play it if I ran out of more interesting stuff to play and the price is right? Yeah, I think so.

I have finished Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon NDS remake Panda Pedinte
The last normal mission was horrible, I have zero interest in the gaiden levels.

Now what ? Shadow of Valentia ? Doesn’t this one has 60+ battles :face-with-open-mouth-and-cold-sweat:
I have no idea how many battles Shadow of Valentia has sorry.

What if you narrow the games down by how well they reviewed and hours to complete?

Played a bit more and yeah, I love it.
Is it just me, or are the cards and explorable hub just there to differentiate it from X-Com? In practice they don't seem to really add much.
Apparently the hub stuff is meant to be similar to Fire Emblem, a game series I know nothing about. The cards are there because if I remember correctly Jake Solomon, the creative director really likes card games. Mechanically they are meant to reintroduce some of the RNG aspects that were removed when the developers made the decision to make every attack hit.

So this year we could get trailers for new Bioshock game, GTA VI, new Mafia game, Crysis 4, new Metro game, next Josef Fares game, Metal Gear remake, next game from AC creator Patrice Désilets, Disco Elysium sequel...

It could be interesting year :D

Wait so Judas wasn't the new Bioshock game that has been rumored for years?

But yea I don't know how excited I am for any of those. GTAVI will probably be console exclusive for years. And based on all those leaks the game really will just look like RDR2 with GTA skin. I'm sure it will be great but not mind blowing like some expect. I would bet money that 75% of the development will go towards the online portion too. I am more excited for something like RDR3 or RDR remake. Or even that Medieval game that was rumored a while back.

Metal Gear remake has too much going against it.

The rest ehh...

I would love to see more updates on Fable and Avowed. Plus some updates on new Mass Efffect and Dragon age.

Something new from Valve would be nice too.

I tried the Captain Sparrow version of Wanted: Dead and I really liked it. Games like Gungrave Gore, Wanted: Dead, Godfall, Duke Nukem Forever are made for me.

If Wanted: Dead and Gungrave Gore's prices wasn't so high, I would buy them in a heartbeat. Gungrave was a ton of fun (tried it on game pass some days ago).

One does not simply adapt Stanisław Lem book into any other media.
The results are uniformly terrible.
I have a soft spot for Tarkovskis take on Solaris. It's not his best work, but I think it's easily the best adaptation of the material I have seen. It's also neat to see some 70s footage of Tokyo, which is used as a stand-in for the "future".

Finally got around watching Avatar 2. My wife didn't notice but whoever decided to switch frame rates during scenes should be shot. Probably gamerthings but holy shit was that jarring and I got some motion sickness halfway.

I'm quite ignorant on the matter but how much viable could it be to make a dual boot with Steam OS to play games in the persistent stutter fiesta of the 202x?
Do you mean you have a PC with Windows and want a dualboot with "Steam OS" to enjoy downloaded shader caches?

In that case, the answer is, you don't; you do a dual boot with any flavour of Linux (*buntu, Arch,...).

1° SteamOS 3 is not released yet outside of the Steam Deck
2° it doesn't matter one iota because Steam OS is not magic; it's a read-only Arch linux with a few tweaks for Steam Deck hardware and maybe a custom Steam interface for the form factor. That's about it. Any linux with KDE will put you in roughly the same spot. Steam officially supports only *buntu LTS, but it works nicely on many other distros. I'm on Arch (EndeavourOS) and things work just fine, mostly.

There are a lot of caveats depending on hardware and games; https://www.protondb.com is a good resource to see how a given game behaves.

I'm not sure how common it is for a game to behave strictly better on Linux than windows, despite the Proton tax, so I can't speak to the viability of having a linux dualboot for that express purpose.

I haven't seen it, but everyone I know who has has complained about this.

Since it doesn't seem like such a huge topic in the broader discussion of it, I assume it's particularly noticeable/annoying to people who frequently play games.

Almost done with GTA Vice City.

Hasn't aged well and the remaster is hideous but it still manages to be fun.
To be quite honest, the remaster is a lot better than what people have said. It's faaar from "definitive" but it really does play nice enough (works on my machine) that I'd rather play these versions than the OG ones. Hate that they've removed Numpad steering in heli/planes though.

Note: Never played the DEP patches.

A more varied week:

Last week:
Despite the technical issues, Wild Hearts is still Koei Tecmo's second largest game on Steam based on CCU and I think it could have been #1 if the PC port weren't so bad. I've played it on Xbox about 8 hours and at the end of the day it feels like a poor man's Monster Hunter, but it also does things different enough that I'm still engaged. I am grading on a curve since Monster Hunter has had nearly 20 years of refinement and Wild Hearts is (kind of) a new outing for KT (I know Toukiden exists, but I never played it), but further DLC and/or a sequel with a lot more stuff to fight and new weapons would make it a very good alternative to MH. As of now, you can see a solid framework, but the content is lacking.

I'm simply ice cold on desktop gaming right now. My PC is getting long in tooth and the parts market being a trainwreck means I have no desire to build a new system either. For now I'm sticking with consoles and Steam Deck. Also I can rent games on console which is great for AAA stuff I have no desire dropping $70 for. I got to play Dead Space Remake and Wild Hearts for $32.

I'm playing on Xbox so a lot of the tech issues have been patched out.
I was thinking more about the art direction they took, all the characters are goofy looking motherfuckers.

I'm bit sick of PC gaming for now as well
