“At the end of the day, I think it’s good having competition to Steam, because it puts them on their toes to deliver their best experience,” Wingefors said of Epic First Run.

“Obviously, we would like to pay less fees to platforms. In reality we are paying more fees to platforms than we spend on game development every year, and if you just think about that number, it’s crazy.

“So, there are margins with the platforms that I would preferably have within building more games and some more margins, but I think it’s great that Epic is there trying to build a competitive platform.

The best thing about the leaks is the prospect of Dishonored 3. I really did not expect Arcane to ever get the chance to make another one of these. I wonder if it was MS that greenlighted the project, or if this was already decided under Zenimax.
Hopefully its not cancelled. The world needs more Dishonored.

The Epic lower platform fee and exclusivity deal really helped Saints Row and Volition, hmm (I know it's a mediocre game, but the Epic marketing black hole probably made it sell even less?).
Then there's the rumour about Embracer considering selling Gearbox, so I guess these deals helped Gearbox too.

Spending more on platform fees than on the development of games? More like spending more on buying other studios.
Maybe Embracer should have nurtured the studios they already have instead of gobbling up tons of studios.

less margin of no sales is nothing.

that said some studios should consider those mega-companies are only buying the IPs (and I still are wondering why, because they barely use those IPs after that) soon or later after the acquisition those studios will suffer layoffs, as always.

How is 30% more than 70%?

They're not saying that, they're saying their budget for developing is lower than what they spend on platforms, aka that 30%
Budget is the money allocated to develop games, not the revenue.

Revenue would be the 70%, however if what they pay is very high their revenue is also very high.

Either Sony has forgotten EGS in the marketing or the game is indeed will be exclusive to Steam on PC.

The sequel of Airborne Kingdom, one of these "permanent EGS exclusives", doesn't seem to release on EGS as well. Glad to see Epic's strategy focused on exclusivity fail hard. They deserve it.

If their platform costs are higher than the development cost, then doesn't that suggest the games are selling well? Which we know they kind off aren't.

The other thing is will Embracer bite the bullet and make something exclusive without any financial incentive behind it. I mean they know how well their games have sold on EGS.

Deep Silver and Sabre have been a huge provider of EGS exclusives. Pretty sure they'll at least try. Their focus is on consoles anyway.

Completely missed that there appears to be a new Touho game and it appears to be based around MegaTen. Or at least a dungeon crawler take anyway.

I suppose if you throw enough shit at the wall something is bound to stick... Right?

Seems like this one is the most complete backgrounds mod:

This one seems like it would have been higher quality, but isn't complete and hasn't been updated since january:
Thanks, I have never played through this game even though Chrono Trigger is my most replayed game of all time I think. Love that game so much, excited to finally give this one a try.

for those with Blood Bowl 3

just saying Season 2 just started.
New Blood Pass DLC with new team -Underworld Denzens- can be purchased inside game store.
This is getting pretty common -like Street Fighter 6 f.e.-. So many DLC launches inside gaming stores instead of Steam DLC category (or other stores like PSN, XBOX, eshop)....
I'm not sure what will happen when these games server close (rethoric supposition).

Komodo seems to be limiting the support for the index right now. So if something breaks on it, good luck.
-------

Pocket monsters won two awards at TGS it seems. One of them was for sales (it sold over 20 million units I think, so sure) but it some how won an award for game excellence?

I do find it funny how there are some people that are happy for game freak and then there are also those that are wonder how did that broken game even get nominated for an "excellence award" in sure you all heard just how broken Violet and Scarlett were/still are.

I love how embracer just came out and admitted they're a bunch of broke bastards who can't fund their games enough. When you have to blame store cuts for not making any money you're scraping the bottom of the excuse barrel. Their entire business model was buying studios and ips that no one wanted and weren't profitable anymore and they're stunned to find out those things don't make money. And these people supposedly have business degrees.

What I don't get about the CEO of embracer saying the 30% thing is it isn't true anymore for valve and people that constantly repeat it are just willfully misinformed.
It STARTS at 30%, then goes to 25%, then reduces down the more you sell and has been like that since 2018

It's 170k copies of a 60$ game or like 340k copies of a 30$ game so I mean for an indie it's a lot of sales but for a big company like embracer they'd be closing the studio

I can’t believe I’m saying it, but Suicide Squad looks like it’s being sent to die.

I know there’s not a massive crossover between it and some of the other games on that list, but at least one of those games is going to get 90+ on Meta/Opencritic and completely dominate the discourse.

And I’m telling you now, there’s no way suicide squad gets 90+. I’d be surprised it gets into the 80s - the game looks like ass.
I mean maybe? but I think it really depends on what the hell they ended up doing with the 8? 9? months they delayed the game. I know they can't remake the entire game but I'm curious to see what they actually did besides make it look prettier? Lol I still want the game regardless with Suicide Squad since it's one of the last thing Kevin Conroy voice acted in (if not the last)

Managed to get Aurora (Cheat Happens) working on the Deck and felt the power of Steam when I loaded up the same save game on my desktop PC. So now I can cheat on the go in my games and load up the game on my desktop and continue there.

Yeah, I hope it sees the light of day. Such a great series.

Lars made very similar comments about platform cuts back in 2021.

During the past financial year, the actual fees paid to platform-holders (console and Steam) for digital sales alone are estimated to be a least 2x the actual costs spent on game development during the past fiscal year. We will continue to challenge these paradigms and pursue opportunities to reduce costs and increase the relative investment into content creation.
Also he had an additional comment today:

“At the same time,” he added, “consumers are perhaps looking at things differently, that they want to be able to pick their platform, so there are many different perspectives to that, and I don’t want to go too deeply into that, but I think competition in general is great.”
I get the feeling he would like to do the EGS First Run program, but probably won't tempt fate. Also he's cut a number of deals with them and probably has enough insight to know how their games would do if they are exclusive, and if he's not getting a minimum guarantee then it probably isn't worth the extra 12% in lieu of significantly less units and overall sales.

I'm probably about halfway through Separate Ways and I'm quite happy with it. Definitely worth the money.
Yeah it rules. I nearly died when Wesker said complete local saturation

The audacity of them not having at least one Touhou game. Doesn't Steam basically have most of them? I even remember how ever since last year that Zun has made it were after the game goes up for sale at Comiket that he shortly after puts it up on Steam (mainly because of people who's intentions are just to sell that copy online and people that actually want to play the game are unable to)

Maybe it's because it's listed as only in Japanese? But yeah sad not to see any touhou games featured, it's basically the signature of shmup
