I will probably sound like i am whining but honestly i see Digital Foundry less and less as PC outlet. Again they somehow manage to release video for each console release on day 1 or very, very shortly after release. Meanwhile their PC coverage is far and few between. As far as i know they hired additional person for PC coverage and despite that they are releasing less PC videos overall. I mean i don't need PC performance review month later.
More console players, but yeah it sucks

I've put over 70 hours into the first one in the last two or so months and I'm nowhere near done (and I'm just going for 100% achievements, all puzzles probably gets you well into 1000h+ territory). Lovely stuff if you like minesweeper/math puzzlers, can't wait for the sequel.

Gonna guess it's a combo of alex being mostly the only person who did pc coverage for them until recently and pc ports being such a mess. For console games they have john, oliver and tom handling it and generally there's just less to talk about on the hardware side. There's little to no graphics settings, only a couple of modes to try usually.

Alex has to see if the thing works at all first then troubleshoot it when it doesn't, then go through each setting and painfully figure out how well it works or how much performance it takes. Those optimized settings take a while and consoles don't have to worry about it at all it either runs well or it doesn't.

I think that's a pretty good showing for BG3. I saw people on the other site saying it's bad but you can tell they don't have a lot of knowledge about crpgs and their history. Crpgs generally don't make any splash on consoles and that specific stat being used means it's competing against all the GaaS trash that hogs "engagement" charts. Sales wise it was #2 globally for PS5 so it sold well.

I would kill to have had Pathfinder wrath of the righteous perform that "badly" on console.

The other thread is fucking idiotic. Trying to paint it as bad.

A CRPG to rank that highly on console is a miracle. It also sold pretty well even if people aren't playing it more than FIFA and whatever (why would console players do that anyhow?)

One of the best RPGs ever made.

I mean, they did the same with their previous Divinity games. Dragon Age also did well on console.

I guess Bethesda games were the most notable before that? And KOTOR etc.

CRPGs being multiplatform seems the norm a while now really.

KOTOR is the same mould as BGIII even.

My hot take CRPGs = Computer RPGs and JRPGs= Console RPGs.

Feel free to ban me.

Also

I have a feeling that the cane sold better on PC than console, despite the somewhat of a small marketing push that Sony did for the game, ranging from stuff like posting about it in Twitter having dev interview blog post and stuff

See kids? Complaining on the internet does work.
It just hide the problem instead of solving It
In a fair world we should not rely on Epic for anything other than their engine i guess
Much so in a game thats not even crossplay, that shit only "connect" buyers on EGS and Steam and nothing more, its basically a forced malware to justify the existence of that damn store
Be damned the day they opened that trojan horse

I know but they need to do something to fix it. For both Alex sake and their userbase. As I said I really don't need PC performance video weeks later.

Oh great, our overlords at Alphabet have now made new changes to YouTube. I wonder if it will make it an even worse experience now

By the way the new change that in talking about is for the mobile app. I have just regular adblock on my web browser.

It's weird. If you are going to have an update may as well make it useful. I'm pretty sure that before when you use to open YouTube that there was no splashscreen, but there is now, which also animates as well.

By the way I'm guessing, just guessing that things are going decent for Komodo since they just opened up a new office in Tokyo. There are a number of things that Komodo does, they act as the Japanese Steam support team, they also are a publisher as well and more recently they have started to develop their own internal games.

But yeah just speculation.

Speaking of Steam Deck, it seems that sales are now starting to slow down a bit, it's still selling but not near what it use to,

Downunder.
About Youtube's anti-adblocker thing.

I used DNS-level adblock (using BIND9 rpz) based on the hosts file from this repo

Combined with this tampermonkey script to remove the nag screen.

It defeats their protection so effectively it's not even funny, lmao :flare_lmao:

Speaking of Steam Deck, it seems that sales are now starting to slow down a bit, it's still selling but not near what it use to,
1 - Limited country list presense
2 - rumors of a refresh coming soon
3 - Valve put on sale Deck a few times which means people are more willing to wait for another sale (which might happen for Winter sale)

In general I feel like with refresh, Valve will open more regions, but rest assure it's a successful device.

I think the Steam Deck sales were always going to be blunted by the media narrative that this is a beta and people should wait for a refresh, and people not knowing what Valve’s release cadence will be.

As others have said, I think Deck 2 will be a breakthrough device.

I do expect Valve to sell the Steam Deck 2 in more countries, and it would be downright ridiculous look if they don't (would undermine their entire point about wanting to change the landscape of PC gaming as a whole).
But I would also be surprised if they actually sell it everywhere, with global shipping. They want local warehouses, allowing people send it in for repairs if they want to, and have actual support. That requires Valve to expand their distribution network and I think their small size will make it very hard for them to expand too quickly here. Over the course of many years, sure, but I don't thing we will see true worldwide availability anytime soon, instead a slow increase over time. I do wonder which regions Valve will focus on next, though.

I think the Japan and Asia approach is how they’ll handle global sales: find a partner to shoulder the local risk.

I can see that. Their partnership with Komodo has been pretty fantastic, at least from what I can tell. Lots of big marketing events in Japan and other countries, a lot of presence in retail and so on. I wonder how easy it will be to find such good partners for other regions.

What refresh are people talking about, Valve already said no Deck 2 until like 2025 at least. If you want a more powerful device you'll have to look elsewhere.

If people are really waiting for a refresh that may offer marginal changes then when that arrives they have bigger reason to wait again for the then closer Deck 2.

There’s been a device going through compliance/certification in several countries.

People thought it was a VR device at first, but it looks like a Steam Deck revision. I imagine it’s not a big one, but at the very least the WiFi has been improved.

Knowledgable buyers will hold fire just in case there’s more changes, and Steam Deck’s main audience is knowledgable buyers.

Speaking more about the Steam Deck and Komodo, I did notice that since Valve is still new that there are things that they can and can't do. In curious if some of these are just things that Japanese Consumers are use to, as an example they can only offer support for so long. As shows with the Valve Index, it looks like they are phasing out support for it (I'm guessing that they don't have enough spare parts and what parts they do have will mainly be for NA or to just sell directly to customers for them to buy and fix themselves. This is in comparison to Sony and Nintendo (I'm not sure if SEGA did the same) were even after they officially stop selling the device they will still officially support it by offering a way to fix a broken device and warranty stuff.

As of now with the Steam Deck if there is an issue for the most part, Komodo will just take it in and try to fit it/give you a new one. While with the Valve Index they basically will just say that you are out of luck.

As for future plans for the Steam Deck 2, my hopes are that Valve has seen what people are willing to pay/see how people are using the device and what they would like out of it (better screen and better battery life). Maybe they will even make 2 new SKUs that they will sell, a more high end one and just a "baseline one" to sell on the cheaper side. At this point that seems to be what everyone else is doing. Sony does it, MS does it, Nintendo does it, the other UMPCs also do it as well (Valve does it as well). So it would be 2 SKUs rather than the 3 that they have now. So that extra money would likely go to having a better screen and something else as well (maybe it's clocked slightly higher than the base one)

In a way I feel like part of the Steam Decks success has been because of Sony and Nintendo (In a way, with the more casual audience) since Sony doesn't have a handheld (PS Portal doesn't count) and the Switch just is not that powerful. So now you have something that is able to play games that the Switch can't, sure it cost more but you are able to play games and use some features that the Switch just can't. You can own both but it will just give you access to more stuff. That may change with the Switch 2 though, it won't be as powerful as the XSX or the PS5, but it may be closer to a XSS with DLSS? So now you have access to even more games and not have to wait months (the Switch version of Hogwarts released months after the other versions)

When it comes to emulators, you may not have to use them for older games because Nintendo might try to bet on Virtual console even more (or what ever they are calling it right now) and do in fact and up selling a digital only Switch 2, just like Sony and MS have and sell that one cheaper and have those customers rely more on the subscription service offerings.

So when it comes to Switch 2 vs Steam Deck 2 I do feel like the more casual audience that would potentially be willing to give Steam Deck 2 a try, may not depending on how the Switch 2 ends up becoming.

Nintendo does it
Doubt.
From a perf stand-point, all versions of the Switch are the same and the OLED upgrade feels like a technological thing, where they hadn't thought about other screen tech in 2017. I would expect the Switch 2 to have only one OLED model, and then smaller "lite" versions down the line that are smaller but otherwise the same in terms of specs. I don't see Nintendo ever offering mid-gen upgrades for their machines.
Having a SteamDeck "lite" might be a good idea, though I'm not sure about the target audience. Like with phones, there's a vocal minority that says they want a smaller product, but people really going to buy it?
