In the end I'm gonna resist de temptation of the Steam Deck OLED, since most situations where I could possibly use it, my PC would just work better (for example, if I feel like being lazy and play games from my bed, I have my PC connected to a big TV).
The only 2 types of situations where I would use the Deck over my PC would be during power outages (which are pretty infrequent nowadays) and when I have to go out to family gatherings (which only happen a few times per year).

I'll still consider the Nintendo Switch successor though (but only if it's backwards compatible), since I would share it with my sister, so it would still get some use outside of the few situations where I would want to use it,
(Sharing a Steam Deck with my sister, that is, 2 accounts on the same Deck just wouldn't be the same, it would add a major annoyance due to how save files are stored for certain games.)

The six nominees for this year's GOTY. Zelda is gonna win it, it does every time. It's almost like a gaming decree that every year a Zelda game is launched it's going to win the GOTY

Dude this whole Hitman 2 thing is starting to piss me off.

I had Hitman 2 from before. I bought WoA in the recent sale. I can only see Hawke's Bay in my Hitman 2 DLC list. How the fuck do I play other locations.

Why is this so complicated?

Right? And it was worse before, it's suck a shame that the ultimate Hitman game has so much nonsense around it, including the whole always online stuff.

Nothing carries over I think.

Also you have to buy the DLC location (bank, island) again if you want to play those. Put a ton of hours into it, but I ain't buying that shit again.

TOTK isn't even the second best game on that list IMO.

Anybody knows what happened with Asterix & Obelix Slap Them All! 2

It's on GOG and that EGS thing for hours but Steam version changed to coming soon. It was supposed to be released today on Steam too.

Indie hasn't meant anything in a long time, but companies has hands in most pies and are somehow helping everything. Indie essentially means low budget. BUT of course there are huge scenes out there that are true Indies in the true sense of the word but don't often see them be called indie.

Almost exclusively PlayStation VR2 games nominated (why even add the AR part then, none of them are). That's pure bullshit (though most of the games are solid to good), like most of the gaming press VR coverage is of course, as if it's not backed by Zuck or Sony it doesn't exist. Vertigo 2 should be on the list at the very least even if they wouldn't let it win, though there are many more deserving than some quirky OPTIONAL VR puzzle game or token action fps roguelite, as great as they are for what they are. And of course way more deserving than a climbing with some combat game. Maybe next year it'll get in as it's not yet out for PS VR2, lol. Edit: For a second I thought I repeated what I had said already on Saturday but that was for the other stupid awards event I guesss, lol.

Believe it or not zelda does not win that often (nintendo in general doesn't really make many goty contenders despite popular belief). Tracking for consensus goty only goes back to 2003 so I'm sure ocarina probably won but outside of that breath of the wild is the only zelda game that even came close to winning. In fact bethesda is usually the one taking it from them, this is the 3rd time a bgs and zelda game released in the same year but this time zelda will finish higher. I really think this is baldur's gate's year though there's too much momentum behind it at this point.

Call me crazy, but if Dave the Diver does win, I do just hope (but I know it's not going to happen) that other big name companies decide to do smaller projects. You look at SE and they have smaller games, how ever they decided to price them too high and release them too close to each other.

Also hopefully the CSGO Paris Major wins

CSGO needs to go out with a bang.

I think modern OLEDs are pretty great in that regard, if you use it for gaming primarily. You could also do a dual monitor setup where you get a second, cheap LCD to use for technical stuff, browsing, etc. and reserve the OLED for videos and games.
Waiting for microLED is nonsense, that stuff is a decade or more out before it hits consumer devices.
The scary part is, people were saying this a decade ago about MicroLED. Soon I'll have been hearing about how MLED is "a decade away" for over two decades lol.

But i think there are some high-end TV's that do use it? They're like greater than 80 inches in size though. It seems the tough part currently is shrinking it down and making it affordable?

We can't be that far away from a MLED monitor... Maybe 5-7 years? :anguished-face: IDK, OLED's just don't seem like a great investment as a PC monitor to me. Not only do you have the risk of burn-in from static desktop elements, but also the organic components of OLED degrade over time at a pace greater than traditional LED, etc...

Don't get me wrong, I love how OLED looks especially for HDR applications, but they still scare the shit out of me as someone who has to save up for big purchases and can't just shit out a paycheck or 3 when a big purchase needs to be replaced.

You can order large, custom-built video walls that use microLEDs. For these very, very large screens, the current limitation on getting the LEDs small enough is understandably less o fan issue, as you just blow up the screen size to work around the limiation. They are not "greater than 80 inch", they are literally huge walls that are featured in malls and stuff like that. And even there it's notable how the companies don't talk about price, so even those installation likely cost millions.

The issue is just manufacturing, you need to be able to make incredibly small LEDs, as in orders of magnitude smaller than what we can do now. I'm sure there's research on this and things that work in a lab, but getting that stuff into real-world manufacturing, in a way that is reliable, cheap and can scale is not exactly simple and it would first be used for very large screens, like TVs long before it enters use into smaller screens like monitors.

Calling low budget games Indie
A low budget game isn't necessarily indie but Indies are alway lower budget just by their nature. This discussion has happened in other mediums, where people don't really know what indie music, or indie movie even means anymore. Mostly it is used for the type of music/movie, as it is happening now in games. As NarohDethan said, indie kind of just means 2D game now or '"lower budget" or just smaller game in scope, not AAA.

I redeemed that game immediately at the time so I'm fine in this particular case but is there any explanation anywhere on why this is happening in this specific instance? I want to know what we need to worry about in future. I have a few unrevealed keys in my account that have been sitting there for years.

Some developers do this to curb grey/secondary market sites like kinguin or g2a.

New Team Ladybug banger announced, Blade Chimera. 2024

Is this coming to Steam? So far it says "console times exclusive".

If that's the case, what a shame Playism, WSSG, and Ladybug.

I guess their other games just didn't do that well on Steam, or they maybe they did end up selling 3X amounts on eShop vs Steam.

Satisfactory update 8. Coral Island / Astral Ascent 1.0, new Murderbot Diaries book, still barely scratched Roboquest 1.0 from last week :face-with-open-mouth-and-cold-sweat:

Is it possible to save the game midrun now? I was enjoying it but the fact that I couldn't play for a bit and continue the run later killed any interest I had.

If you mean Roboquest, no. They say they're considering it but it's a big ask apparently. For what it's worth I think in co-op our runs tend to be under 45 minutes, and solo should be faster
