Can't agree from what Ive played so far. Absolutely do not understand all the 10/10 and 9/10s review scores.

I will write a review when Im finishe with the game, but just to have it said, the open world is shockingly bland and basic.

Unicorn full game iso is leaked for yuzu and works perfect.

I suppose Microsoft paid Vanillaware to release the game, but I don't get why they released the game on Xbox over Steam, they would have sold a lot of more units than on XBOX.

(I also supported Vanillaware on Switch and PS5 but I prefer to play it on the Deck, so no guilty ^^)

What did you think of it? Story, etc.
It's a decent overall game, but don't come in expecting the second Steins;Gate.
MC is pretty much an incel and most of the game is from his perspective, so it's a hard read.
Official translations is balls, do not try playing the game without CoZ patch applied.

If we do not compare it with the PS5 version, the game performs very well itself. It doesn't demand much power so there are no major problems. If you play it in the Dock, it may lack a little resolution on a HQ TV and you will notice a bit of a blurred/washedout effect. If we compare it with the PS5 version, the differences are a little more noticeable, the resolution issue is more pronounced and it is noticeable that some effect is missing, especially in terms of lighting, but it is a great version -imo better on portable mode-.

I've learned that stuff always inspires other stuff.

Hardly anything is very created in a vacuum. I'm sure that there is some stuff that has been and that stuff was very alien for a long time.

So I wonder what stuff will be like 40+ years from now when people look back and say, I was inspired by such and such.

There are certain things now that I didn't grow up experiencing and didn't realize actually existed.

One such example is Disney movie. I didn't grow up with them. I didn't even know that they use to release them in theaters every decade or so. By the time I was of age to go to the movie theater, Disney had just stopped releasing movies in theaters. Since they no longer were making the money that they used to, and part of this is because of how Disney started to release movies on VHS in the 80s.

The movie, book, story, song, etc that inspired other big things and itself becomes obscure over time.

Dragon Ball was already well known and was already very successful by the 2010s. Did Dragon Ball Super help the series reach new heights? In the sense that a manga was still being worked on along with a new anime, games and other stuff that just kept the series growing, despite its age and people joining along the way? And also feeling like they are a part of a story that isn't truly finished?

We have seen the power that reruns have, but to have that and new stuff that people like?

People talk about video games preservation and makes me wonder, how will people go about playing some of those games if they never get released? Since you do have some modern games that may have been inspired by some niche game that releases on MS DOS, or the SEGA Saturn, etc. Wasn't one of the games that inspired young Gaben some Star Trek game that a vast majority of people by have never played before, and that's one of the things that got him instead in programing?

At least some things are still sort of accessible. What was it that pushed skateboarding into mainstream and got people into doing crazy tricks? It was Tony Hawk Pro skater, which can still be played on modern platforms because of the recent remake.

Stuff inspires other stuff, which is nice but it's also a shame when that stuff is no longer around and people don't have access to the source? Which in turn makes people forget about the source material. Isn't that sort of what happened with Akira Kurosawa? Did people just forget that he existed? I'm not sure if it's true or not but I have heard that in modern Japan a lot of younger people don't even know who he is.

Do people eventually fade into obscurity and their work lives on?

If you are still well know after 100+ years then you did a good job.

Finished

Really great game, despite having some slower moments and some poorly explored characters, all the sadder because of the contrast with the good ones that you meet an hour in, participate in side and main content all throughout the game, have their own hours long quest lines before you can finally recruit them 30 hours in.
I really loved how much interpersonal relations there are for almost everyone, including antagonists, it really ties the game together despite having a fairly simple story.

Combat was... fine. The optional real time mode to have everyone move and take actions at the same time removed any real annoyance that the SRPG part could bring, and I really hope it appears in other games in the genre...
The crafting got better later too, with more interesting effects like bleed or map movement speed and not only +X attack or HP. I did like that you could bribe almost anyone to get items and recipes, as well as get them to teach you their skills (if you were strong enough to defeat them for the potent ones).

My only real problem is that it is ultimately a pretty small and cheap game, so no voice acting, no cinematics or super involved sequences, it's a lot of text and sometimes it reflects on the environments - they may be numerous and varied, but clearly not every village or little map is as rich in quests or useful NPCs as the more focused ones.
It makes some parts of the game feel a bit rushed and kinda like early access in a way? Despite having released day one with the complete story.

And the thing is, it kinda is, as there are a bunch of vary chunky free updates coming, on March 14 the first major one will be out, and it brings more story, more maps, and even more companions. In the future they want to expand the lesser ones, so I hope they'll manage to fill it up even more.

With a little sale, I would 100% recommend it, even if you're not into wuxia.

9/10

Another lightgun coming. This one doesn't use a camera at all but motion sensing only so I'm curious about calibration/drifting/response speed etc. It doesn't look quite right in the play videos to be honest. We'll see. Cool recoil though, like Time Crisis arcade. Probably means this too will cost like $200.

I'm almost done with NieR Reincarnation and MAN FUCK MOBILE GAMES SHUTTING DOWN

The story of the game is actually amazing and stands behind NieR and Automata in no way, and it answers a bunch of important questions of the larger NieRverse. It even ties the other, already shutdown Mobile game SINoALICE stronger into the universe.

It's gonna be legit sad when this game won't be playable anymore.

They could easily preserve it.
Just remove the superfluos combat.
Put it on Steam as a Visual Novel for 30 Bucks.

Got my Anbernic RG35XX plus today! Love it, it's so tiny! But one question, is it normal for it to come preloaded with tons of games? How has Nintendo not sued them into the stoneage?
So how is the device? How is the battery life so far? I am looking for a retro portable to compliment the Steamdeck.

I wanted to post this also here, it was an argument about AAA sustainability and the stupid argument that AA games won't bring in the money.

Let me dissect this argument.
So where does the immense success from Helldivers 2 come from?
There is a Helldivers 1.
Which was not a AAA game.
It was a game that many of us here are saying we need more of.
And the argument always comes down to: "those games don't make money, they rarely sell millions. Just look at the graveyard of non-AAA games!"

So, where does the AAA game success Helldivers 2 come from?

Where does Call of Duty come from.
Where does Uncharted come from.
Where does Grand theft Auto come from.
Where does Bethesda Fallout games come from.
Where does Oblivion/Skyrim come from.
Where does Battlefield come from.
Where does Baldurs Gate 3 come from.
Where does Mass Effect come from.
etc.

It's not just direct sequels from small or lower-budget predecessors, it is also competent teams that started with small projects and because of this, they were handed the big checks.

The industry NEEDS small teams making new things, because those teams or studios are the next COD/TLOU/Skyrim/BG3/Mass Effect/GTA.
Most of the current big studios are riding on the success and work they did 10 to 20 years ago.

Without new smaller budgeted games... (regardless of game hours, that stat is always bullshit, a games length has nothing to do with its budget unless your only selling point is the narrative and your gameplay cant survive without that narrative)
Without new smaller budgeted games to get devs the confidence and accolades to make AAA games, there will be fewer and fewer AAA games.

Because you know why? One misstep and your AAA Studio is done. And you know what is even a bigger graveyard than non-AAA games?
Studios who never shipped a game but were opened to make a new AAA game.

Yeah, they all come with a pack of games. It's usually filled with poor quality roms or hacks. It's usually recommended to replace the games with good roms. Thankfully, they make packs and upload them to archive.org.

I just downloaded the game. I know the servers are going to be shut down. Does it take a long time to beat the game? And do I need to know information from SINoALICE before playing this game?

If I can I may as well try it out and play it before it's gone for good.

I saw you guys talking about how Vanillaware would rather port their games to the NGage than to PC. So I looked up on Wikipedia what games they have made before, and I don't know any of them lmao. I think I'm out of the loop on that developer.

Vanillaware hates money. And their publisher have confirmed they would love to put the game out on PC but their "contract with Vanillaware prevents it"

You absolutely should, it really is just nier 3 and appears to be incredible important to set up the next game.

You don't need to know sinoalice.
Idk ive been playing it every now and then since the shut down was announced, but cant have been more than 30 hours.

There has only been one PC game by them back in 2006 and shut down in 2022

Lord knows I have high tolerance for anime but this is some concentrated anime bullshit. What's so jarring it's one of those Souls "inspired" games. Anime Souls does not work. Still liking the game so far, just not the dialogue. Normal difficulty is also a bit too easy, I think. Would have played in hard, had I known.

To be honest, I’ve never played a Vanillaware game I’ve thought was good. I usually play demos of their games, but always find a reason to drop it. Usually the terrible writing, mid gameplay or utterly grotesque art style kills it.

People rave about 13 Sentinels, and I found that game so boring that I dropped it after a short while. I’ll try it again on Switch, but I’m not optimistic.

Needless to say, I’m not feeling the loss of them on PC.
