Humble monthly is probably going to be a good way to get some more people on EGS, since if they put a decent game there I doubt many people would pause the subscription just because is Epic.

Also, Anno 1800 is back on the store, and with 20% discount on top of the $10. But no Division 2 or Breakpoint. Either they are doing the "uplay integration" one by one by hand of Ubisoft also doesn't want the discount on those titles.

Kind of curious if something changed or buying on EGS is still basically giving you a UPlay copy.
Not sure it's a good way at all. Just see how people reacted to Black Ops on the monthly.

I mean, yes crunch sucks, but clearly some people at Epic besides Tim and Sergey are onboard with what they're doing or we'd have seen massive turnover.
Oh absolutely, I agree, but I can see someone like Tim being the main driving force behind it. As the owner especially.

Oh Tim "Fear the walled garden" Sweeney is definitely the driving force behind the store. He's made it abundantly clear on twitter and in pr/interviews after all the Tencent investment talk that he's the final say at Epic.
Edit: I just dont want him to het all the blame. It's mostly him, but not all. Endedit

I wonder how he and CliffyB got on, as they both seem to have very alpha personas publicly.

Have I missed something?
Do you mean about exclusivity or about me not caring if it's a forever exclusive? There is no indication right now they it's a exclusive, but considering the Dev is having "funding issues" it wouldn't surprise me.
Regarding me not caring if it's forever EGS exclusive, that is because the game is made by a gamergate asshole that has created the narrative of his game around gamergate ideology.

Usually people get remasters for free or with a discount if they own the original, but thanks to epic that's not possible.

So... the publisher got paid for something that would be a hard sell on Steam because it offers almost nothing of value (besides maybe the bump in resolution on the pre-rendered cutscenes), and we don't get what would probably be a free upgrade. As usual, great "competition" for us consumers :p

Hm, how long till Epic start to moneyhat mods? If I was Tim I would've worked tirelessly on the toolset. Can you imagine EGS being the best place to mod your broken ass Bethesda game?

it was ... but then they've taken it down again after a few months
What a mess...

Anyway, after WWZ, it was to be expected that Saber Interactive would stay loyal with Epic. Thanks to the controversy of the EGS exclusivity, people got aware that the game existed.

I am finding it difficult to believe that Epic paid 2 million for exclusivity that is too high a price to spend per non-AAA like titles.
Because of Epic's exclusivity deal for Ghostbusters "remastered", the original game has been delisted from Steam.
Breh the game was delisted YEARS ago. I was lucky to have gotten a steam key from Gamersgate.com IIRC.
EGS have nothing to do with the delisting of an old licensed game.

You can't even make an argument for the 2016 game since that one being delisted is just part of Activision's usual MOs with licensed IPs.

Don't let little things like reason or facts or physical reality get in the way of a good Epic story, they certainly don't. Theyd take credit for the delisting if they could.

So as it turns out, Metro Exodus is coming to the Microsoft Store in 3 days, probably as part of the Xbox Game Pass program.

This confirms that the exclusivity clause, in at least Metro's case, is deliberately targeted at Steam and not other stores.
Metro Exodus was planned to release as a Play Anywhere game on the Windows Store. This didn't happen because of Epic's exclusivity deal. I'm curious what changed since then. Microsoft acquiring 4A Games perhaps?

Epic's pockets are not as deep as Microsoft's.

I'm curious as to the REAL reason. Is Epic's business plan really just "eff Steam"?

Makes me think Epic are really scared of something. Valve working on a Battle Royale? Source 2 finally getting its public release?
Might have to do with how Valve has been expanding. Valve has went from a games developer to a games and engine developer, storefront operator, and hardware manufacturer. I think there might be some jealousy involved.

Jesus at how informed people who want to make games their livelihood can be.

Does Valve need to send someone over to their house tell them to sit the fuck down and go over everything they can and can't do?

Then again they could just be spewing BS as Epic PR fully aware that stuff is there.

Those cheeky bastards :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

That second tweet, in reply to someone asking if it's going to be available on Steam, reads something like "Not at the moment. Steam doesn't offer us any confidence regarding what happens with the resale of keys at a regional price".

How hilariously pathetic. Have these guys made anything before this game?
I have to laugh when some nobodies who haven't done shit come and trash talk one of the main channels for selling games on PC.

Oh well, one more twitter account to block (I love blocking stupid people/companies on twitter :grimacing-face:).

Tbh that game never struck me as very interesting. An out of nowhere Mortal Kombat or Killer Instrinct wannabe with a tired theme that doesn't make it stand out in any way? Maybe the PR by going EGS and all the rest shit can help them get some attention. Doesn't make it any less sleazy and stupid though.

It's not about giving consumer options. It's about just waging war with Steam/Valve at the cost of taking away consumer options with exclusivity (Outer Worlds, etc).

Nah.

Ahhh..... the "must treat consumers like idiots" clause of the EGS exclusive contracts.

But in this case they are being a little bit more specific on the lies. It isn't just a "it's better for the consumer". Now it's "Steam doesn't give us control of keys and regional pricing". That evil Valve generating and distributing keys without the consent of the publisher.

I guess one could point for example to that Era thread about a lot of people already using VPNs to bypass Epic's "secure" system, but I have a feeling that this isn't a honest discussion :p

honestly? i don't think it's even that .... what i think has happened here is this: they never really made any other game (that i'm aware of ... or at least haven't released anything on steam themselves) ... and here's suddenly epic with all their advertising etc. ... so they noticed all those ads and articles and contacted them to see what they can offer them ... and then epic comes in and probably tells them a lot of bullshit about steam (which they don't even bother verifying themselves) and how awful it is .... fast forward a few weeks - and here we are

i don't think they're mandated to say stuff like that ... but i DO believe they think it's true ...
