I had the fortune of watching that stream live!
I was hoping for a Castlevania announcement, and instead got that post-modern masterpiece of a conference.
I also watched the Sony conference where they announced the price of the PS3, with giant crabs and lots of "Ridge Racer!" in the mix.
I believe it was the only Sony conference I ever watched. It was awesome (for all the wrong reasons)!
There's also the kinda funny showcase in about 2 hours where they're supposedly showcasing 60 indie games.

FunktionJCB It was epic. They also ended up looping it for hours and hours instead of taking it down too. i have the stream i saved on a disk somewhere. I was on the Eurogamer and Gaf threads and it was insane. There would be people asking why the thread was still active so we'd send them the link, they'd watch it and come back to discuss it. Then you'd see the ex-confused people posting the link to new people asking why the thread was active. It was glorious.

This UBI show was abysmal to me, and I like/love UBI. Everything was Tom Clancy or Competitive. And for fuck's sake UBI, hire decent writers, everything stinks. Your plots and dialogs are a joke, and when you try to joke it hurts. Hurr durr, I can play an old lady, lolz she is a retired assassin, lmfao.
Too say nothing of the supermarket level hosts but eh, at this point we got bigger issues to fix.

I was just following the stream, not checking the forums, but I was having dinner, and I spit my food and drink numerous times.
That DDR segment. That Wrestling segment. Presenters expecting the audience to clap, and everyone was just staring back at them.
I miss conferences like that.
Now, it's all so polished, sterile, and unfunny.
If you are going to bomb your conference (I'm looking at you, Bethesda), do it with style, Konami-style!
Trashy conference. Gods & Monster releases in February and they couldn't be arsed to show any gameplay? The Far Cry 2 (my most hated game ever) designer leading WatchDogesBrexit and it being filled with annoying as fuck banter that makes WD2 look ubersmart? All of Ubi's big IPs blending more and more together? Okay I'll download Rollerchampions but there really wasn't much for me there.
Watching a little of the PC gaming show re-run. As always, the indie showreel is the highlight. Age of Wonders 4 looks great, and this sci-fi horror thing looks interesting.

Supposedly it is the versions that sells the mostbiggest surprise for me during the Ubi's show was just dance still releasing on the Wii, which is more alive then the Wii U somehow
The subscription future is going to kill this industry so fast.
Funny, I always assumed the reason why I usually don't really feel like playing anything during E3 was all the new and exciting games being announced. But this year there hasn't been a single one yet and I still don't feel like playing anything lol.

The Wii brought a ton of people to gaming who never moved on or they use phones and tablets now.
Grandkids buying it to play with Gran, sports and social clubs and people who just play it at parties and buy each year's one. That's what i assume anyway.

I'm getting really tired of this "hobby". I can no longer support a crowdfunding campaign, because developers keep spitting me in the face.
I pre-order games directly from the developers well in advance, to support their efforts (like Rune), I get spit in the face.
I buy games on day one to support small indie developers, and a few weeks or a couple of months later, they release the same games on Switch or PS4, with added content, and plenty of times this never gets ported to the PC.
All this crap is seriously killing my love of gaming. More then ever, I'm channelling my disposable income to other things, and soon, I'll "live off" my backlog, and stop buying games altogether.
Apparently, it's too much to ask for some decency, and not to be fucking "disrespected" as a customer.
And then many wonder why people stop buying their games.

The tango game looked very interesting. Hopefully its very story driven.

It seems ignoring ubi conference and playing more kiwami 2 was the right choice.
I expected this (too many subscription services) to happen, just not so soon.
You all should just shut up and consume, consume, consume.
Ubi keeps pushing on with the same type of games, they had one big scare when they nearly burnt AC to the ground. They don't realise that their others IP's are getting into that type of situation.
On top of that they believe people will pay 15€ for a monthly subscription where 70% of the games are shooters with macho men.
Don't be discouraged though. There's still plenty to love about PC gaming. There is always plenty to look forward to, both in the past and future titles. For the past titles, modding scene is still rapidly growing. Emulation scene is healthy. No subscription service can change that. And not every single publisher will go for Sweeney's Sweet Swindle. And Unreal Engine is not the only engine worth developing on. I'm optimistic that their shop will crash and burn and forgotten. Perhaps not anytime soon, but I have faith, however small it may be.
And nothing of value was lost it seems.

I'm hopeful that SE doesn't go to the darkside here, but their increasing reliance on UE4 just might be the big push. Worse still, SE is the one dev I can't blacklist. I love SE games too damn much. Not enough to get me on EGS of course, but yeah... I'd suffer the year-long exclusivity and still buy it. Literally no one else in the industry is making AAA-budget JRPG's.

Gaming got a lot more enjoyable lately when I basically stopped caring about 99% of mainstream games and buying 99% of my games on heavy discounts.
This industry and most discussions surrounding it can go fuck themselves. I'll just play my backlog, my anime games, my pervy games, some notable indies and the occasional AAA game that isn't rotten.
Between €4/month or giving Epic money, I'd go with the former any day.
That’s exactly what happened.
A ton of older folk still have them; people with lower income who don’t care to or have means to spend on new consoles; hand-me-down owners (kids) that got it as their first consoles; middle aged parents (lots of moms and Wii Fit in my anecdotal experience). Etc.
It’s also notably a crowd that I don’t think is going to be reached with all those subscription services and all that streaming tech. So I dunno WTF these companies are doing.

Yeah, I'm getting rather old, and tired, to deal with stuff like that.
I love cinema, especially "cult" cinema (italian 70's horror, 50's sci-fi, exploitation, slasher movies, westerns, and plenty more), and just recently I subscribed to a package from the great guys at Vinegar Syndrome that gets me a box of Blu-Ray movies every month, from now until the end of the year.
After working 6-7 day weeks, like I sometimes do, and working 12-16 hours a day, instead of dealing with pre-order bonuses, retail exclusives, platform exclusives, delayed launches, microtransactions, and now all this EGS crap, I can simply relax, kick back, and watch a "crappy", over-the-top low budget 70's/80's production, with a bucket of popcorn, and chill out.
Tell me, what do you think I'm finding more and more enticing?
I mean, I won't stop buying games. I still have my point & click and FMV adventure games, and shmups.

Very common for Xbox to have preloads month in advance. Its how people were playing XCOM 2 Xbox months before release.
Can't stress enough how refreshing it is that Cyberpunk offers exactly one edition for digital preorders. One. There'll be DLC later for sure but it reminds me of simpler times.

The right thing to do would be for developers to congregate on one or two services (Like Netflix and Amazon Prime at one point) to piggyback as a Trojan Horse. Get everyone used to paying for game streaming subs, make everyone think these one or two services are the one-stop-shops, and wait while the platform holders develop the tech to make it cheaper, and get paid for putting your games on their services.
This way is so backwards. The tech isn't really there yet. People haven't become accustomed to the concept like we have with movies and TV. And instead of these services slowly coming out like they did in that industry, we're just getting a flood of them in like the span of six months.
It's dumb as shit, and they're going to end up burning each other and themselves, worse than what's going to happen in the movie industry.
