read something about beta on dicsord and full everywhere
I'm asking here because i can't find anywhere else more fitting to ask. Every few years i get interested in joining an MMO to try and pull me out of my shell etc and it's that time again. I've been looking around and Final Fantasy XIV is calling to me so i have some freaking loads of questions.
It's £29.99 on Square Store at the moment for Complete Collectors Elite Mega Excellent Edition or something, worth it?
I've heard not to buy on Steam as it doesn't have as quick an update cycle and fewer sales?
I'll probably be going solo at first until i get my confidence to actually speak to people is that viable?
Do i need headset or will in-game chat do?
Is there a good EU Server/Datacentre?
Is there a Meta FFXIV FC or something?
Is there a good FC for total newbies, like "I've played STO for a few months years ago but drifted away" newbie?
Is there a low APM Class or one where a newbie can be useful even if they're a bit Pony?
Is it worth picking up Stormbringers now or wait until i've actually done some of the other content first as i imagine it'll be gated?
Last question: Is there a Metacouncil Multiplayer Online thread?
1. The Complete Edition includes the base game and the first 2 expansions, But Shadowbringers also includes the first 2 expansions. I guess it depends what you want to do. You could either get the standard edition and save a few bucks, and then buy Shadowbringers if you enjoy it and get the rest of the expansions with it. Or you can buy the complete edition and decide if you want Shadowbringers when you reach that content.
But disclaimer, the base game is a slog at times, and the first expansion, Heavensward. Is when the game really hits its stride.
2. If you buy the game from Steam you MUST buy the expansions from there too, but they go on sale on 3rd party sellers like GreenManGaming and Humble very frequently, meanwhile the Steam expansions only go on sale like 3-4 times a year.
Updates are installed through the launcher. I'm not sure who told you it had a "slower update cycle" but they're flat out wrong. When an update goes live, its available to everyone instantly.
3. FFXIV is one of the most solo friendly games on the market and 90% of the content you'll do is solo. Dungeons, Raids and Trials have to be run with other players but they're pretty easy and nobody really talks during them most of the time, obviously there's matchmaking. However Shadowbringers adds the feature to play Main Story Dungeons with NPCs.
4. No voice chat, Just text chat. A lot of PS4 players use KB/M for this reason.
5. EU has 2 data centers and 10 servers both hosted in Germany. You can visit, match make and play with people on other servers as long as you're in the same data center.
My friends in Ireland, Sweden, and the UK all said they were smooth as butter with great ping. I'm in Canada though so no personal experience here
6. We're all on different servers and data centers so I dont think so.
7. Usually there are tons of people advertising newbie friendly FC's in the starting areas. They can help you if you really want to, but FC's arent really necessary. I guess results depend on the server you choose.
8. Black Mage (Thaumaturge) and White Mage (Conjurer) are both low APM classes good for both beginner and endgame. (Still rocking WHM as my main and it hasn't let me down yet). You can play as every class with 1 character so dont be scared to try a different class if you dont like your current one. WHM is pretty bare bones and simple at the start but it opens up at the later levels, So I still enjoy playing as one a lot.
9. If you buy the Complete Edition right now you'll have access to the first 2 expansions anyway which is more than enough to judge the game in its full merits. I wouldn't recommend buying Shadowbringers unless you know you'll play it.
