After selling my Play Asia physical copy on Switch (before I even played it), I fired up Shikhondo (食魂徒) - Soul Eater (because it’s been sitting in my Steam library forever). It seems REALLY short, but it’s fun and I like the art style. If you know me from Era, you’d might know shmups are my favorite. This is the first time I’m playing a shmup with keyboard only... and I’m doing fairly well.

Bough a switch just because. Played Mario Odyssey. Really really fun game. Playing it with the joycons separated or with the pro controller feels like the best way, the grip attachment felt awful for me. The hd rumble is pretty meh so far. not sure what the big deal is.

Coming from playing pc games at 4K to the Switch isn't as bad as I thought. The game still looks decent and even good in some scenes, Although in some scene all the jaggies on screen still kills me inside :p

Other than the exclusives i feel like my switch will just be a portable indie game machine in the long run since I can't afford a GPD Win 2.

I play mine 99.9% of the time in handheld. Currently selling all my limited Switch games and keeping the retail stuff. I’m not sure if I’ll end up keeping it or not. I love the Switch, but I’m moving back to predominantly playing PC 100%.

You haven't seen the worst of it. It's very very jagged and the shimmering

Keep it for homebrew down the line and ripping your games to play in 8K via emulator on PC. :p

But yeah, isaac, gungeon, dead cells portable is pretty great. hoping slay the spire will be on it as well.

I just beat The Surge, so that technically counts as what are you currently playing! (The base game, I don't have any of the DLC's)

I thought the game was fantastic very much a (Dark souls, I know I know...) Sci FI action game with unique mechanics to get equipment pieces which I like a lot better than the whole dumb luck system (I haven't played Darksouls 2/3 so I don't know if that's changed)

As far as what to play next I don't know what to play next since I have a lot of obligations for my time so sitting down and getting to play things isn't happening as much as I would like to anymore.

Atelier Rorona (PC), and lemme tell you, this game is unforgiving as no other game is, like you feel totally in control at the start, and you start losing it by the middle and soon after you are in full panic mode.
Play it!

Many games with great movement and one with not.

Been playing Just Cause 4 which has great movement but I think I'll wait for the patch as the visuals can be very off putting at times especially when coming off some of the other games I've been playing. Also the tethers almost have too much choice now so I don't know how to set them up or use them! Wish it gave move needs and tutorials during the early missions on how best to set them up for different situations. Can't wait to unlock some more weapons as well as I'm already bored of the default loadouts.

Then some Sunset Overdrive which also is a joy to play (Thanks Queen), really enjoyable when you get into a nice flow during a battle. Forgot how solid the game felt and it hasn't dated as much as I thought it would of with it being and early gen game.

Still prodding at RDR2. Still quite a bit to go through by the looks of things after making it fairly deep into the game. Still enjoy the world but kind of getting bored of the Rockstar style missions, extended travel times between missions and some of the odd conflicts between personalities.

I've left Ashen aside for now, I really want to play that on PC.

I've finally started Darksiders 3, and I'm super- enjoying it! Darksiders is one of my favorite series, and I really like how they change it up a bit between each game. The Dark Souls is strong with this one, but I was in the mood for that now anyway, so this is perfect. Can't quite understand the low reviews tbh.

Was definitely better than I thought it would be after reading reviews. And it gets better the more you play.

Dragon Ball FighterZ ... since January.

I'm not motivated enough to start a new single player game yet.
I'm thinking about reinstalling that. I quit after the endless lobby issues Adnor, Prinny, and myself experienced. Maybe got 20 hours in max. Figure they should have sorted that by now, right? I hope.

That was fixed a loooooong time ago. It did take longer than it should have to fix, but they fixed it.

I’ve never played through Mega Man on PC, so I’m currently playing that. I have Ice Man and Fire Man up next. Oddly, I’ve gone back to using my dank ol’ Logitech controller from like six or seven years ago. I plan to casually play through the MM series on Steam.

First time when I played Mega Man when I was 8 or something the games felt stupid hard. I never used any of the power ups to progress the stages. Only used them on bosses. Ice Man's stage was the most difficult stage in the first game. And that's because of the disappearing platforms. When I played it on Steam I just used the beam to create platforms to jump. I never even thought about it when I was younger.
The games are still difficult to beat, thanks for the save state :D

Currently playing Ys Oath of Felghana. I come to realize that Ys games are not my favourite jrpg series. I don't really like how equipment makes the fights more trivial. Leveling up also make a difference, but not as much as better equipment. I missed buying better equipment before entering a dungeon. So I had hard time to beat a boss, and I couldn't travel back as I was trapped in the dungeon until I beat the boss.

I was a Mario kid growing up; I never really played MM. I tried a few times in my adult years and thought it was hard. After playing Shovel Knight, I started to enjoy old school difficult games. MMX started my love for MM and then MM11; going back and playing the OG MM, I find it's not as difficult as I first imagined.

After playing through the first Legacy collection I find that the first Mega Man was the most difficult game of the six games. After that for every new iteration they made it easier.
For example they added other power ups other than boss weapons in second game.
Changed it into Rush in the third game, only Jet and Coil were useful. E-Tanks also made it easier
In the fourth game they added powered up Mega Buster
In the fifth game I could get at least two extra lives in each stage
In the sixth game there were E-Tanks in every stage, but lesser extra lives

Yeah, that's about right. The first game has a few moments that are borderline frustrating.
After that, while the games aren't particularly easy, they're never unfair. You lose on one spot, replay the level, get better, and after a while you are clearing the levels with more or less ease. The kind of difficulty I like, where you actually feel yourself improving with each playthrough.

I always enjoyed the classic Mega Man series but, for some reason, I never had the same "connection" with either the X or ZX series.
My personal favourites are Mega Man 2, and Mega Man 9.

I'm playing Persona 5 in RPCS3 (at 60FPS and 6k resolution, so that's neat).
It's certainly a masterpiece on terms of consistent graphical design.

Sadly, just like 3 and 4 before it, I feel like it would have been a much better game if it was ~half as long. It has a lot of content, but still not enough to prevent pacing issues and stretches of boredom over 100+ hours of playtime.
And the battle system still isn't anything to write home about - basically, when you encounter a new enemy it's "try stuff until you find the weakness", and from then on it's "use the weakness".

I just finished MM1 on PC for the first time. Apparently there was an update recently and the achievement did not unlock. I don’t know if it’s a bug or if I don’t get the achievement because I used the rewind feature... sucks! You know, even with rewind, that little bastard is tough.

I started Battle Princess Madelyn last night and it feels like a less punishing Ghouls n Ghosts. It is a game funded via Kickstarter with a kid (developers daughter) helping creating the monsters and the levels I think.

The controls feel tight and responsive and the music is good. I'm not far in the game, just beat to bosses and got the double jump ability. Once I've spend more time I can tell if I like it or not.

I had the same problem with 3 and 4. These games are too long, so I get burned out and I went to play something different promising to myself that I will come back later, and the day never comes. And I believe I lost the saves, no way I'm going back to play so many hours again with my current backlog.

I've done the same, first patch is an improvement but I'm hoping they can improve the LOD system on PC. The dithering is a little too off putting at the moment. I'm also looking forward to playing Dad of War once the works copy comes back into the library.

I completed Sunsent Overdrive over the weekend (thanks @Queen), It has held up far better than I was expecting it to of done. Graphics are a little rough around the edges but the gameplay still feels great especially once you unlock the air dash.

Also started Mafia III and so far it seems okay, story just hit some interesting beats and gameplay has felt solid enough but it I'm very early in the game. I'm not sure where the complaints are coming from apart fro the graphics being a bit bland in places and rather odd lighting due to their skybox system. Performance is rough without Vsync on, it doesn't seem to work with Gsync either so there is a bunnnnnnnchhhhh of tearing unless Vsync is on.

Monster Hunter is my go-to right now, both World (on PC, in which I'm still picking away at the back half of the campaign) and Generations Ultimate, when I'm on the go with the Switch. I tend to "be playing" a lot of stuff at any given time just given the nature of the job. So, I've also been playing Gris, which is absolutely stunning. Armored Brigade is a late-breaking best of the year pick for me. And I'm getting into Insurgency: Sandstorm as well. Oh yeah, and I bought Ashen and Super Smash Bros Ultimate because I have poor impulse control.

Currently playing Below, Book of Demons, Pokemon Eevee and i forget what PS4 game i'm on as i haven't powered it up for a few weeks.
I am planning on spending a big chunk of time over the holidays to finish off some games i have abandoned close to the end due to new shiny games coming along. I'm also getting my physical backlog games into a stack so i can work through them next year.

I suppose i should wax lyrical about my current distractions...
Below is really intriguing, i'm loving the obtuseness of it all, the exploration, aesthetics and sense of solitude are fantastic. However, it is very unforgiving later on and having to do long corpse runs between deaths is starting to wear thin especially when it's nearly always starvation that kills me. I don't think i want them to remove the mechanics but maybe tone them down a touch especially on the lowest difficulty level. As i said over on Era, at times it feels like a timer run between one-time use campfires before you starve to death which to mee seems at odds with the feel of the rest of the game.

Book of Demons is bloody fantastic. I got it for £5 due to coupons and was put off by the "Real-Time" statement on the blurb but it's not too bad at all as that just means you press 1-0 to fire off a spell card in your inventory. You go through the dungeon clicking on monsters, firing off a spell now and then, exploring and upgrading while delving ever deeper to fight the Big Bad terrorizing the village. The pop-up cardboard artstyle is great and it also has "Flexiscope" which lets you choose approx how big/time taken each Dungeon stage will be so you can choose ~10 minutes up to ~1 hour. Thoroughly enjoying it.

Pokemon Eevee is my first Pokemon game and i adore it. Eevee is on her way to becoming the worlds cutest Poke-Smasher bless her heart.
"Eevee! Wreck their faces!"

Started up Metro 2033 Redux after giving up on the vanilla game after 2 hours a year or so ago.
Graphically stunning. Ukranian 4A Games is up there with the biggest AAA developers when it comes to fidelity.
The atmosphere is - naturally and intendedly - oppressive and dark. Makes it a bit difficult to play for long since I absorb that mood into mine.
Other than that, after Blue Shift, Metro 2033 Redux is an insane jump visually. All the small details and business, in general, make it tougher to discern between Level and just visual fluff.
Combat feels a tad too floaty, dunno what's the exact cause. Maybe the enemies move quicker than I'd like but I enjoy the stealth section more. Can take my time to clear a room.

Finished Ys Oath of Felghana! I am not really fan with how better equipment make much difference, especially during boss fights.
I once missed buying a better armor before going to a dungeon. I had so much trouble in that dungeon since there were no way to go back until I beat the boss. After the dungeon I made sure that I always had the best available equipment before entering a new dungeon

Started to play River City Ransom Underground. For some reason I thought it was a linear beat em up game. But this game is a semi open world game, where you also level the character and buy new moves. Not sure if I like it

Finished Hollow Knight. It's fine. I kind of don't like the boss battles that much though, and that entire White Palace section was like from another game. Circular saw blades platforming section, really? I also didn't like how to face the Radiance you need to always go through that other battle before it, so I stopped. Got 2 out of 5 endings, that fine.
While I'm still complaining, occasionally the foreground art was way too busy to the point of obscuring the gameplay, that's not great design if you ask me.
There's also this, delay I guess, in all the actions that I quite never got used to. I can't count the times I would run into enemies because a sword slash didn't come out when I expected it to or similar. Also the map system sucks.

Dig the music and general gameplay, and the art in general is fine too. Maybe a little "newgroundish" for my tastes.

Vampyr - Been working through this and I'm closing in on the end. If I do a top ten list for the year I could see this landing on one of the later spots but it does have many faults. It's one of those games where it's easy to look past some of the faults because there's something compelling and different about it that makes me more engaged by the whole package despite things I would like to see added, removed, and altered if they ever made a sequel.

All that said it's a bit tough to recommend because it requires some willingness to let the game go for a bit and to get wrapped up in the universe it creates. If you pick apart the disparate elements you'd probably come away from it disappointed because it's fairly easy to complain about specific aspects.

Update: Still playing and loving Sea of Thieves. The recent Shrouded Spoils update did a great job of really adding incentives/rewards to all the different things in the game. For example, after The Hungering Deep event which introduced The Hungering One, the Megalodon was added as a permanent piece of the game and would make appearances occasionally. Somtimes she'd attack other times she'd tag along for a while, I'd even seen her aggro ships that attacked ships she's followed for a while. It was always nice to see her but really there was never any incentive to aggro her or even kill her instead of fleeing when she attacked. With the new update they've added 4 more distinct Megs with their own "personality" traits and added dropped loot and commendation (reputation/xp) incentives for hunting them. Just as they did with the Kraken, and Skelly ships, which now roam the world and can randomly ambush from the depths as well. Really, there's never been a better time to start playing honestly, as your choices of activity all contribute to "advancement" now.

Also, Started and completely smitten with Mudrunner: A Spintires game. It came to game pass (huzzah game pass) and i'll be damned if its not one of the most satisfying games I've played in a long time.

I finally got to play Yakuza 0.
I expected the opening to be bombastic and stuff. But I'm surprised it was slow and methodical. It's opening up slowly and I like it.

Kiryu's VA has gotten old but somehow he pulled off his younger version damn well.
I’ve never played a Yakuza game and picked up 0 yesterday. I’m pretty stoked... for the day I play it. 😂
