at this point i can only assume devolver are going to Tim first with every single new game they're publishing - to ask if he'll throw some cash at them to not release it anywhere else ... and depending on his answer - that's how they determine if it'll release on steam or not
Yeah it seems so. Very sad, since Devolver has been pro-consumer for a long time. But their games are rather small so Epic's money must make a huge difference for them.

This said, if more of their games are going to be EGS exclusive, they will join Annapurna and Deep Silver on my blacklist.

1. If sale numbers were that good, they would be saying how many units were sold. This would be the best pr to encourage other publishers to try it out.

2. All those "surprises" are worthless without knowing how many sales you've lost by going EGS exclusiv.
Did you in the end made more or less money because of the deal?
Probably more because of the big upfront paycheck. But without it?

Some part of me wants EGS to succeed and grow, and when they decide to fuck with consoles, I can rejoice on all those Kotaku articles on how gamers are dumb for letting EGS get big and unchecked capitalism and all that shit they love to complain about. And thats not even entering into the utter shithole forums will become.

Ahaahahahah holy fucking shit

All EGS exclusive developers (and certain pubs) are on my personal Blacklist. Even Obsidian. I loved Obsidian but their last games were mediocre for my gaming tastes. I had 50 times more fun with Pathfinder Kingmaker and 100 times more fun with D:OS2 than with Pillars of Eternity. So I can live with it.

The devs only get out of the blacklist if they deliver a game that is phenomenal (for my tastes) or if they do something significant that praises the openness of PC Gaming.

Should point out that a few weeks ago the game got a ton of attention because he posted the trailer on /r/PCGaming and /r/PCMasterRace, both of which are heavily anti-epic. So if he took the Epic deal the shitstorm on reddit would have been huge. Probably for the best that he passed lol.

Using the anti-epic crowd to advertise your game and then go EGS exclusive weeks later would have went over super well I guarantee.

I think Obsidian had nothing to do with the decision to go EGS exclusive, that was Private Division. This publisher is on my blacklist as well.

Well I guess I’ll be buying DARQ. I was already interested but I intended to wait until around Halloween, I’ll buy it now instead.

I know they’re pointing at how they refused the Epic deal for publicity, but at least they’ll see it works.

I wasn't even aware of the game before. Reviews are mentioning it's similar to Little Nightmares. Welp, SOLD! I'll be picking this up in the next few days.

r/games and r/gaming are both held hostage to corporate ball washing moderators. r/pcgaming is slightly better, slightly.
r/games and r/gaming have different opinion about r/pcgaming. According to them r/pcgaming and r/pcmasterrace is just a toxic circlejerk hivemind place.

They also said that unlike r/games and r/gaming which have 50:50 opinion about EGS, r/pcgaming is 100% hate on EGS and can't have any positive discussion about it. Well no shit, both r/games and r/gaming are dominantly console players.

Fun fact, GTX 1050 is the go to GPU for pre-built "gaming" PCs and laptops here, shittier ones have 2gb VRAM while "monsters" boast "unheard" 4gbs of goodness.

It's at least 10k cheaper to build your own PC and you'll also end up with better RAM.

Console gamers really despise pc gamers for having any kind of standards like not paying for online.
True. many of them didn't understand why we stood up against the Windows Store as well. I mean, it has achievements, so why complaining? :p
Start Menu > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Search "Epic" > Uninstall.
"Programs" are obsolete; they are called "apps" nowadays

Tbh I wouldn't mind "losing" the master race thing to EGS fanboys. It's always been so cringeworthy to me.

The pro Epic journalism has reached Germany. Heise.de, one of the respected tech publisher (print and web), have entered kotku levels of propaganda.

"It's childish to hate the EGS." A commentary by industry veteran Bodo Thevissen

It's full of the usual Stuff.

  • Glumberland under attack because of EGS exclusivity (no mention how the Dev was an asshole the entire time)
  • Game prices are high because valve is taking a 30% cut
  • Valve doesn't deserve 30%. They are doing nothing for it.
  • More money for developers = good, because trickle down economy.
  • 12% cut could stop other publishers from putting out their own launchers. Having to manage launchers is annoying.
(I know, but that's really the argument he is making.)

Comments section is rising (300 in 3h, which is unusual on that site) but most people are relaxed so far. They express why they are disappointed in the commentary because it's very one sided.

Still, commentary or not. One sided reporting destroyed a lot of goodwill and respect today towards them.

Where do these guys keep coming from? I mean, this this not an exception; ALL of the media are reporting this kind of nonsense (with a few exceptions like Alice from RPS and John from DSO).

But 88% * 0 is still 0 :thinking-face:
It's pretty clear that Epic are giving developers figures that may suggest their game will sell less, but not significantly less, to the point where they break even compared to Steam or actually make more money. Whether those figures are cherry-picked and hold any water is another matter.

I can't wait for some of the EGS postmortems next year, where indies are either worse off for taking the Epic deal, or their audience bought the game on Steam a year later and Epic is no longer interested in their next game because it's clear their audience won't go to EGS.

And you'll be able to tell those who didn't meet their minimum EGS sales guarantee by how hard they're pushing the Steam version after a year. If given the choice between selling a copy that just repays Epic's guarantee with the developer seeing no extra, or giving the developer 70% of a Steam sale, they will no doubt be pushing for the extra cash.

Stop being rational.
How you feel about something is important and not logic or facts.
88% x 0 can be whatever you want.

It's the same with EGS. You just have to keep calling people childish, hateful, manbabys over and over again untill they start believing you.

It's a fact. You just have to believe that it's true.

The really interesting part is going to be when steam is getting "Definitive Edition" / "GOTY" versions of titles, maybe even with completely new features such as workshop support or leaderboards and seeing how EGS purchasers are going to feel about being stuck on "vanilla" edition with no plans to bring those features over to that version.

That would be the sweetest thing to see. I hope Epic quickly gets a reputation for having inferior versions of games.

Im hoping that devs will swap out EGS keys for Steam ones on 3rd party sellers after the exclusivity deals end. But I doubt it.

Guess they could do what Humble does with some games and let you choose. But only a few games do that with GOG/Steam on Humble, and im not sure if any game has done that recently.
