Mordhau is being given away for free on EGS. I was lurking their Discord and saw a post from a moderator says that the game had, at one point,
over 27k concurrent between Steam and EGS.
The Steam version peaked at about 6500 concurrent yesterday which means the EGS version may have peaked at nearly 21k.
The numbers given appear to be people who are actually in a server and I've read that there have been issues with finding servers as the game is more popular than the devs anticipated. This may mean the number of people in the Epic version is higher, but it at least gives a plausible floor.
I bring this up because Mordhau is currently
5th in the EGS most played charts. While I don't think their most played goes off CCU and probably does daily users instead, it might give a possible data point for their rankings. A top 5 game may have several hundred thousand DAU? That doesn't seem unreasonable IMO.
Going on a tangent, I've been trying to track Fortnite CCUs for about a week and they're surprisingly low, to the point I'm wondering if player numbers are region locked. The highest I've seen is about 1.5-1.6 million across Epic's modes and the combined sum of the most popular maps on a Saturday afternoon. The numbers do appear to be cross platform combined since I've checked on both PS5 and Xbox and they are within the same ranges. Battle Royale is the highest and can peak at over 500k with Zero Build usually peaking in the >300k range.
While those numbers are massive, they're down drastically from Fortnite in 2018 when it had between
3.4 million and
8.3 million which makes me think the current numbers are region locked as they are simply far lower than I had anticipated. I know the numbers I linked are from 2018 when Fortnite was at its peak, and Tim has outright said the game has declined in the past year, but I still expected >2 million at minimum.
Anyway that's enough of my incoherent ramblings.
