They need to wait for GenDesign and Playdead to finish their projects before the EGS go down in flames.
No doubt these devs would find another publisher for these games. And they would be released on Steam as well. EGS can go down in flames tomorrow imo. 😉

Also, Epic Publishing can outlive EGS, no problem.

Epic would just need to release a bitterly angry press release stating they’ve been given no choice but to use Steam, as they did when they released Fortnite on Google Play.

I get the feeling Epic's endgame is for the rewards program to replace coupons so they don't bleed as much money.
Wait, wait another sale ? Wasn't there another big sale like a month ago ?

Regarding the discussion on the previous page, I think I might have mentioned this sometime, tim said something like this (paraphrasing): games (publishers) will decide where people buy games.

But that's kind of flawed when there are too many games releasing (nearly)everyday.

To be fair to Epic, they did succeed in providing competition to Valve on the developer side. Steam's different tiers of revenue cuts was very likely a direct result of EGS existing. Epic Online Services provides a better offering than Valve's. To be fair to Epic again, I don't know how you would hope to compete against an entrenched market leader with 20 years of head start, a carefully crafted "good guy" image, high levels of customer satisfaction and no sign of complacency. It's just that their plan was so godawful that it was doomed from the start.

If they felt they had to play the role of the villain against Steam and try to force themselves into the market, they should have done so at Microsoft's "I bought the bank" level. They should have moneyhatted every medium to major release for at least three years, but that would have meant burning through their Fortnite cash at an extraorrdinary rate. Instead they half-assed it in every way and now whatever small amount of momentum they had managed to pick up is dead in the water.

Here’s the thing. For me, if they had ignored all the exclusivity bollocks and instead focused on the likes of the rolling discount vouchers that renewed after each purchase, slowly moving towards the points system and earning discounts I would probably have been there day 1. Hell I probably would have been buying less on Steam with those sort of incentives.

They should have announced/started the publishing deals a lot sooner as well. While I still wouldn’t have liked the exclusive nature they would have gone down it would have been more justified than the exclusivity deals.

Finally take twitter and tell Tim to shut the fuck up.

Hey, if the EGS lasts at least until they give away Aiko's Choice again I'll be glad since I missed the only giveaway I wanted to play in a long time.

The /r/EpicGamesPC community is wild. Someone on there is claiming that Microsoft was the reason for the PC gaming revival.
Three kinds of people are posting in that sub:

  • people having issues with EGS
  • people asking for more features in EGS that most other storefronts already have
  • trolls/astroturfers

It's both sad and hilarious tbh...

I keep saying this, but if you have EGS games, just launch them through Heroic. Much better than the official EGS, GOG and Amazon clients that it replaces.

The fact that the community can build a better launcher than Epic, a billion dollar company that designed the most advanced graphics engine in the world, proves once again that Epic doesn't care about the user experience at all. The sooner EGS dies the better.

To be fair, Heroic is a damning indictment on every launcher it replaces. This isn’t just an Epic thing: GOG and Amazon should hang their heads in shame too.

Remember how Sonic Frontiers was supposed to launch on EGS last year? It's been in their backend for awhile. The name "projectrangers" is most likely a reference to the original Frontiers code name which was Project Sonic Rangers. Why it hasn't released on EGS, I have absolutely no idea.

Also Bamco has some games on the Epic backend. I know Little Nightmares 1 and 2 are on the list as there are some titles that match DLC names, but the others are mystery to me. My guess is Dragonball games since there was a Fortnite collab last year.

Also I installed the Epic launcher today to check something. I installed Fall Guys to see if my Steam progress would carry over. It did not and all my items and progress were wiped. I'm not super upset since I won't ever play the game again, but I am slightly perturbed that I lost my TF2 and Portal items. I also promply deleted the EGL and EOS after I was finished.

Anyway that's my rambling for the day.

Huh, if you still run Fall Guys from Steam , are they lost there as well?

Correct. I linked my Steam and Epic accounts, and ran Fall Guys on EGL first to see if my stuff carried over. It didn't. I downloaded my Steam copy and the fresh account overwrote my old progress. If I had ran FG on Steam first then launched it on Epic first then it probably would have been hunky dory, but that's most likely an edge case that the developers never accounted for. I might try that with my Rocket League account in a few years when I'm bored and procrastinating. :shrugblob:

Must be a weird feeling for Tim and the Epic Store staff to miss out on BG3. Unless it pops up when it launches today or later. Still, Steam is getting all the mindshare for the game.

Not any more weird than missing on Elden Ring
Or Monster Hunter
Or many other games that skipped EGS even if fully multiplatform
Want Yakuza on pc? Well you're in luck since it's both on Steam and GoG. But for EGS only users this is the only Yakuza action they will see

I love that the launcher does not interfere with my resizing activities.
Too bad steam lacks that feature. Point for Timmy!
there's nothing worse than settling in for a nice long 3-4 hour resizing session then just as I get into it Steam bugs me by telling me my game is done installing

look Valve I was already having more fun than any game could possibly provide....at least I was until you BROKE MY IMMERSION

At least they knew it would get annihilated in its old slot. I don't think it's going to do particularly well, but October 27 gives more breathing room between Spider-Man and Call of Duty. Even Assassin's Creed moved its date to avoid Spidey.

To be fair, if you're just trying to get the game funded, the Epic Publishing deal is fantastic.

And the revenue share is quite attractive.

But it's not at all conducive to building up a fanbase. Too many caveats to get many people to bother paying. Alan Wake II is a game I really want, but I'm not buying it on PC, so I guess if I get a console that isn't a Series S and it's on discount?

The last report for MAU in the EU was 21.3 million so that is one helluva counting error. Steam's EU MAUs are located here, but you have to actually be located in the EU to view it. Last I saw, it was 26.3 million.

Unless plans change, it appears that they are shifting the coupon from the Holiday Sale to the Black Friday sale which means one week instead of three.

its so funny to watch him go back on every word he said prior lauching the store .... and defending assteflips like this

#porngamesWHEN

Halfway there.

Declaration in accordance with Art. 24 (2) of Regulation (EU) 2022/2065 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19 October 2022 on a Single Market For Digital Services: During the six-month period of February 1, 2023, to July 31, 2023, Steam had an average of 26.3 million monthly active recipients from the European Union.
