This week is already looking good for Epic, but things could turn even worse it will be if Epic / Deep Silver don't start refunding Shenmue 3 backers or simply go another week without saying nothing other than Tim tweets.
they probably just want to wait it out ... hoping most people will move on (the journalists certainly already have)

meanwhile everything is valves fault by traping poor exclusivity partners

Words fail me. The one thing his store sucks at, the one thing they are showing themselves as utterly unable to develop in timely fashion - when being forced to do so - are features. An ensemble of services that is apparently taking its toll in resources and money. And he would expect Valve to provide it, free of charge lest they be accused of "trapping partners".

I'm sure that should the situation be reversed, Epic would gladly fund the bandwidth and infrastructure costs associated with activating and downloading a product.

What do you mean, "no"?

What Tim is failing, or intentionally refusing, to understand is that this isn't necessarily about Steam. It's about EGS.

People do not want EGS. If Ys Net turned around tomorrow and said DRM-free downloads via Humble or GOG (or their own site) for all PC backers, that'd probably quell 95% of the anger immediately.

But I guess there's no way he can blame evil Valve for stopping DRM-free downloads, so that won't even be countenanced.

Pretty much, yeah.
And the reason most people don't want EGS is because of third party exclusivity and the stench it brought to the PC community.
But instead of reading the signs and accepting that he made a mistake Tim decided to double down on exclusivity.
Tim might think he is very clever, but the intelligent people question their decision all the time and are willing to learn and accept mistakes.

Just stumbled across Outer Worlds on the Xbox PC Game Pass BETA app.
So much for that exclusivity: It will be available day one.

Also available on the Windows Store

It's an open secret that EGS exclusivity just means 'Not on Steam', since games appear elsewhere, just not there

edit: Going to have to log into twitter at lunch I see

Ex-Fortnite Reddit mod accuses Epic Games of paying mods to manipulate posts | Dexerto.com

RawStanky followed up by detailing their accusations of other r/FortniteBR moderators behavior, including claims that Epic Games were allegedly paying two top level moderators on the page and asking them to remove posts from the subreddit that caused drama.

RawStanky also claimed that moderators on the subreddit would apparently take prizes from giveaways, publish private information about or "dox another mod" and even got an ex-mod banned from the Epic Games Launcher, among other things.

The comment has since been deleted by RawStanky, who is also a moderator in other pages on the site such as the official League of Legends subreddit.

We're commending companies for giving paid vacations now? That shit is mandatory in Canada.
That shit is mandatory basically anywhere!
I have no idea how it is in the US, but I would bet even they have some bare minimum laws protecting workers rights.

I guess the news there is that they actually close shop for 2 weeks, which is kinda normal for small companies or brick and mortar stores, but not really for 1K employees companies.

On one hand is a good thing for those poor people crunched to death, on the other is also a rather unprofessional thing to do for a company selling services.
But yeah, they needed the clicky-baity lord-and-saviour title, so they couldn't just give everybody 2 weeks of their choice off.

Unfortunately, no lies detected. There is no mandatory vacation time here in the states. Most places offer it, but as a bonus (same with healthcare). I love living here, and I hate living here at the same time.

You’d get such a better life-work balance working in almost any other software industry, and the games industry only gets away with it because of people’s artistic passions.
This is something that really screws my head.
The tech industry by and large has historically brought forward the whole work-life balance. It could be some dumb shit like ping pong tables in the office or something more important like an open vacation policy, but either way, it makes our job better than pretty much any others.
I'm baffled by the fact that old-school tech is so much more advanced than the videogames industry.

I didn't realize until now that Epic is kinda building a bad working environment block, by gathering Epic, Gearbox, and Quantic Dream.
I guess R* next? :smirking-face:
I actively checked if your link pointed to PC Gamer. It points to PC Gamer.
Yeah, I got this nice habit of proxying their links through archive.org from derExperte!
