That's understandable. But I'm not sure pissing off consumers is a great idea either. Many devs who took Epic's money were clear and open about it and stated their game would come to Steam 12 months later. I don't see why other devs couldn't do this as well.
I personally view this as the ones being open about it being mistaken in their behaviour tbh, there's no way Epic is pleased about that (what they say on the matter to the public is irrelevant, they paid money to have the game exclusive ther's no way they're pleased).
I wouldn't take the risk if my livelihood depended on it, legally bound or not.

🤔
As curi0usBystander mentioned, this isn't useful, it's just a movement in terms of the trial between Apple and Epic to support Epic's demands, which are, pretty much, Apple Store should allow third party stores in it, but this doesn't make any sense in the way that anyone can get the app for free via dev website without having it hosted on EGS, so yeah, makes little to no sense and it's basically a movement to get some attention for the trial, I feel.

The multi-store future is here. I can't wait to open up Steam via EGS and then open up Origin via Steam.

Honestly this seems utterly pointless on Windows. Like everyone else has said they're probably just doing this for their lawsuit against Apple but I'm not sure if it's a valid point since it's comparing a closed platform store vs an open platform store. This could be for the Epic vs Google lawsuit which is happening in Aus but not sure about the US.

Isn't the trial beginning in two weeks? I hope the judge isn't very impressed by this stunt.

Also, doesn't itchi.io sell some very adult games? I wonder what that does from a legal perspective.

This doesn't matter as EGS and Itch will be two different entities, EGS only works as a bridge to get the .exe of the other platform. Basically a launcher for a launcher.

It's so dumb. It's so very, very dumb. It doesn't even prove a point, the PC is not a walled garden, it's just... I don't know how to even phrase how stupid that is.

Thank you. It still is.... ironic, after all the talk of curation :)

May 3 is the start date.
Now I'm kind of hoping this is indeed a stunt they want to use at the trial, just so other side can say "you waited 2 years to try to show your store on a open platform is... open?".

Can't believe I'm "kinda" rooting for Apple in this... yuck.

Great engagement, if you ask me :coffee-blob:

those who run always tend to do more mistakes than those who walk, Tim.
As we say in spanish "Vísteme despacio que tengo prisa", please translate it as it's relevant ;)

This is likely done for the Apple lawsuit but they also are opening a EGS for Android later this year so makes sense it would have non gaming apps.
still not sure if its of any help in the lawsuit ... as i am pretty sure it would be seen as something like "change done as intentional attempt to influence lawsuit while its going and thus irrelevant in said lawsuit" ... in local law , but no idea about us law

So Apple are still going for a scorched earth policy with Epic. I suppose if the court sides with Apple we'll see a fair few iOS UE4 games cancelled or delayed.

Here we go. Next weeks free "game" is....

characters for a free to play game. $100 value!

Edit: Nevermind, these people are being stupid, and I am pretty confident that they claimed the F2P game...

Regardless of the outcome, the losing party will appeal and the case will be stuck in a legal mire for years. I have to wonder if Tim will swallow his pride and go back on iOS in the interim if he hypothetically loses (assuming Apple even lets him back).

Apple has no reason to allow Epic to come back barring a settlement. The overall iOS economy is way more important than Fortnite and they'll want to make an example of Epic, since if Apple wins this they'll have a precedent and it's gonna be really fucking hard to challenge how the Appstore functions in the future.

You're right, but I remember Apple saying they would allow Fortnite back on iOS while the trial played out assuming all the revenue went to an escrow account that would be awarded to the trial's winner. That bridge may have been long burned though.

IIRC that was prior to the preliminary hearing where Epic tried to ask the judge to force Apple to put Fortnite back up and the judge said "nah they can keep it off".

Now Apple has carte blanche to nuke Epic out of their store at the very least until the end of the trial.

There will be a lot of ways folks interpret those rates given how many have settled around the 30 percent. I assume the footnote states the rates are as of today rather than inception.
