New GeForce Drivers have "Ultra Low Latency Mode" which boasts to bring down latency from 44ms to 22ms in select titles on their blog, can someone explain to me what are the downsides to this? If it's just simply bringing time latency in games why isn't it enabled by default?
Since Nvidia basically, uh, borrowed the whole thing from AMD, I assume the same limitations apply:

But why isn’t this just enabled by default? Is there any downside?

Now you may be wondering, if Radeon Anti-Lag improves input lag in games, why isn’t this just enabled by default? Is there any downside? And the answer to that is yes, but it’s not a significant downside.

We tested a number of games with Radeon Anti-Lag on and off to see the performance impact. Several of these had a negligible performance drop: 1 FPS in Metro Exodus, 3 FPS in Rainbow Six Siege, less than 1 FPS in Resident Evil 2, and no difference in Battlefield V, all looking at average frame rates. The impact to 1% lows could be anywhere from delivering a consistent improvement, to lowering performance.

However there were also some titles were the performance impact was more substantial. In Fortnite we saw a 6% drop to performance, or 7 FPS, looking at average framerates with an even larger drop to 1% lows. The hit was even larger in Hitman 2 at over 11 percent. AMD says it isn’t unusual to see a performance impact in some titles but not others, so your mileage will vary. Certainly some times you can enable Anti-Lag without worrying, but others the hit will be noticeable.
+

One is that Radeon Anti-Lag works on any “recent” AMD GPU or APU, so not just new Navi GPUs. However it only works in DirectX 11 titles, unless you have a Navi GPU in which case it also works for DirectX 9. No AMD GPU supports this technology in DirectX 12, Vulkan or OpenGL.
(Don't know yet if NV's version is DX12 compatible.)

Due to the lack of any RDR2 PC announcement yesterday, Ive decided to just finish the game on my PS4 Pro. It's 100 GB too, gonna be nice to free it up.

So Gamescom events have pretty much wrapped up..

No RDR2 pc
No Death Stranding pc
No new Elden Ring footage
No Sekiro DLC
No MCC release date
No STALKER 2

Overall disappointing.

Thanks for nothing Germany :(

Yea you might as well. If its not coming this year it probably won't be next year either since new consoles are coming and you know R* is gonna be focusing on them.

Once again they treat the PC gaming community like shit. Its a shame too. They wait so long to port over to pc that by the time it does come their game looks outdated. Remember when GTAV finally came to pc? And like a month later Witcher 3 came out. It really did look like a PS360 game by comparison.

You're forgetting the most important part of the new updates: INTEGER SCALING.
I guess it's now time to buy 4K, since you can now actually properly scale 1080p content on there

If you think about it, during PS3 days MS and N actually had more high-profile exclusive JRPGs than Sony. I can't even name anything outside of White Knight Chronicles and that game is not in the same ballpark as Xenoblade or Lost Odyssey, NNK maybe, but it started as DS game,
While with some definition for "high-profile" that's probably true, I wonder how meaningful it really is.

No JRPG really is "mainstream" in the worldwide game market, and for the people who like the genre the massive number of JRPG exclusives on Sony platforms (I.e. the Ateliers, the Tales of, the Falcom titles, N1 and IF, ...) was probably more meaningful than a few high-profile games,

Of course, now it's irrelevant since almost everything in the genre is on PC.

Good guy Sony, bring their multiplayer titles to PC so you don't have to pay for PS+ but make exclusive SP games so you still have to get their console.

There's always a tradeoff between throughput (as in, FPS) and latency.
The impact can be (significantly) more or less pronounced depending on the game and target hardware.

I'm happy they are surfacing this option more, I think between e.g. 5% more FPS or 30% less latency many people would prefer the latency.

I think back in the mid-00s, before BioWare and Bethesda turned the console RPG market on its head, Sakaguchi making an exclusivity deal with MS for Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey was a pretty big news in the mainstream, that and SEs exclusives were pretty big blows at the beginning of the gen. After that, the genre has shifted towards more otaku oriented stuff, so, for people who were into anime Sony still had a lot to offer, but I'm not sure if quantity translated to quality.

Witness the power of RTX.

So not only is the Steam version not coming until 1 year but there is also content that is locked to the PS4 version ("exclusive")

I see that there are others that also feel that JRPGs have become more "otaku oriented", but that's what keeps the lights on and at least the game are above decent.

Well at least there are still some games that target a "niche" (I guess you can call it that?) such as Yakuza

that's correct, that's why the Steam version will be the "complete edition" same as Metro Exodus because we will get the base game + both DLCs

I keep refreshing Wikipedia pages of Yakuza games...but they still stay on PS4 :suicide-blob:

Definitely, I'm just thinking that it led to the loss of appeal to some people who were previously the fans of the genre. Otaku stuff was niche's niche back in the PS2 days.

Shittttttt
It's a PSN leak, there's still a slight chance of getting it on PC day and date, don't get your hopes high but wait for official confirmation.

ALSO, WAITING SONY'S APOLOGY FOR LEAKING SEGA'S STUFF, they should totally sue them for breaking their show.
(remember when people did this with Valve and Street Fighter leak? yeah, those users neither)

Integer scaling locked to Turing. :(
Well, it wouldn't be Nvidia if they didn't lock it behind newer hardware. I plan to buy a new PC and hardware later this year, so this doesn't matter to much to me anyway, but I don't get how a scaling method is dependent on the hardware you use :disapproval-blob:

If I was a dev, I wouldn't even speak to the gaming public at large anymore. Either you show your bigoted ass, Ion Maiden (Ion Fury now lol) or you get called out for shitty FTP practices and show your ass only responding to the worst offenders and slathering shit on everyone.

Just don't talk to the gaming public anymore devs. Freelance PR if you have to. Your audience isn't going to like everything you do and if that's an issue then hire someone or just release statements and marketing.

I missed White Knight Chronicles :( JRPG these days feels very different than JRPG on PS3 era. The online part of that game is really fun too, that is the only game that I played online on PS3.

I would happily pay for PS+ if they bring their exclusives library to PC. There are a lot of PC gamers who simply refuse to buy a PS4 to play one or two people, that is a lot of missing sales potential. Those people won't buy your hardware so why don't they just sell their software?

Have to make sure people double dip to PS5/Scarlet first before they triple dip to PC :money-mouth-face:
Breath of the Wild is pretty great! Can't believe it has gone under the radar as much as it has.

;)
Try to play it on emulator. BotW on WiiU emulator is pretty much a lot better than Switch.

Isn't this sort of the reason why Valve says that it doesn't talk that often compared to some other companies (and also the reason why a lot of people think Valve does nothing but sit on there buts?)

So I guess we have to wait 6 months to a year to get the collection on PC then?

If it was just Yakuza 3 then ya a PC release along side the PS4 version would make sense but seeing how it's 3-5 and 5 just came out about 2 months ago or so in Japan, that's is likely not nearly enough time to work on the PC port of these Yakuza games. For Yakuza 0 and Kiwami 2 those ports took at least a year to do or something like that before they were released on PC

Oh well

What's different on Final Fantasy VIII Remastered from the previous version?
Will all extras from the old version (like Chocobo World) be available on the new one?

thanks

That Trails advertising in the July top seller post.

The people who say valve sits on their butts are fools or a just clinging to silly hopes that they release half life 3 to a gaming public that largely don't care about half life anymore. They complain and continue to get rightfully ignored.
