tbf, they're sharing games they bought when they first got Steam

Doesn't make much sense to get custom box art for that
Yep, but I mean for things like these which publishers doesn't update the official boxart to adapt it when Valve changed the UI.
There you can find the full "official" boxart

Fenyx Rising is 85% off.

I already played it on gamepass months ago, and found it very average even a little bit obnoxious... but I'll probably buy it to hate play it like Avengers. I hate myself.

Also, it's kinda hilarious that since EA and Ubi came back, their games are on deep sale pretty much every other week. Desperate.

I thought the Q1 expansions were merged into the main app. I'm confused.

I wonder how high Armored Core and Starfield can get if they review really well. I think both can do over 500k.

With gamepass and early unlock for Starfield it could lower its #s a bit but either way it will destroy the Fallout 4 peak for sure. Even if reviews knock it down.

And were gonna see just how many more FromSoft fans Elden Ring was able to create. AC6 could blow up too if it gets glowing reviews.

I don't see AC being that popular, but who knows. Is it the first AC on PC?

The CCU is also its own marketing tool. You see people playing and you want to give it a go yourself.
Crazy how some companies are spending tens of thousands of dollars or even more to even get some of this attention.

Steam is a weird place were word of mouth can get you very far, sadly that is not always the case for the other 3 console market places. Nintendo chooses winners via Indie Directs, Sony does actual marketing for indie games it think will sell well and for Xbox I'm guessing they just put them on gamepass or something.

I was seeing some mental gymnastics were people were saying, hey it's a good thing that Bethesda left, now there is room for other games to take there place. Sure BG3 is not really likely Starfield but it's still an RPG, so it's basically the same thing.

At least in Japan it looks like it will be popular, I think some one else here already mentioned how it's one of the top selling games on Steam in Japan.

The "even though I've never played a CRPG before Sony should buy Larian " camp out in full strength celebrating the faux-clusivity of the game in the console space.

I used a script a while back to fetch boxart for games that didn't have official ones (I think the script was by Ascheroth or modified by him to only check art for games where it's missing, maybe), but then at some point I just deleted the folder where all the custom data is stored. It's not that it was taking a huge amount of space or anything, but I just didn't care enough to keep it when I reinstalled Windows to a new drive a while back. And yeah, even though it didn't take a lot of space, in the back of my mind it was still wasting space I could be using to something else. Weird stupid brain.

Maybe once Steam starts supporting modern image formats like avif or jxl or something.

I used some script written in Go (the language), and I changed something about it. THat's the one thing I specifically remember because that's the only time I ever wrote anything in Go.

But yeah, I also didn't bother to migrate it to my new PC.

I expect Steam release when they release the english version. Honey Come releases on DLSite and FANZA with japanese only language. Illusion used to release english version after a year or so. Let’s see what happens. Being the main title already in english could be soon but who knows and if it fits Steam policies. :-/

Are they still delisting their old stuff?
It’s to soon to know, legally illgames is different company made by former Illusion devs/employees, so anything could happen.

When the plz don’t hold us to BG3 standards polemic happened, I feared that bias of some sort colored my judgement. It happens.
But no, I spent some time next door and I decidedly don’t see any sense in comparing BG3 with Starfield or FFXVI or whatev, most of all any indie games. I’m not sure I love BG3, there is a lot of things I could criticize, but it’s good enough to be its own, and unless some game would go straight for its throat, be in the exact same design ballpark, comparisons are nonsense.

I mean, yeah Solasta could be compared on the tactical front, but they have so wildly different budget and manpower, who would be crazy enough to compare them and hold any grudge toward Solasta ?
Appart from the fact that Solasta is hideous. Budget don’t explain everything. Burn those characters.

Brand expansion going really well for Sqeenix

If Square wants Final Fantasy to be more profitable then its time to start licensing out the brand to other developers.

Let Larian make a Final Fantasy Tactics game.

Let FromSoft make a Souls like FF

Let some smaller teams around the world make roguelikes, card games, visual novels etc. Treat the brand like Star Wars or Warhammer. Or find some sweet spot in between.

The brand is so long in the tooth its not really smart to just bank on an occasional AAA entry and an mmorpg for profitability. Them doing remakes is a smart idea but the remakes become so big and take so long to make its kinda of exhausting. FF7 remake is like a 12 year project and will probably cost so much it will be hard to be really profitable. Imagine once they start remaking PS2 era FF games those projects will be stuck in decade long dev hell. Maybe they should do Demon Souls 1:1 like remakes with better graphics.

Also if Square loses enough shareholders value it would be good opportunity to replace all the arrogant and incompetent people at the top. Get people in there who actually want to make money and grow the company. Or maybe just get acquired/merge with someone else.

FFXVI sold well and is profitable. Square’s shortcomings and drops are related to decline in mobile (multiple game shutdowns and declining popularity), and MMO divisions (No FFXIV expac until next summer, half a year longer than the gap between SHB and EW).

Also all the midrange games they released last year bombed, probably because they dropped like 10 $60 AA games in a 2-3 month period among other big releases. Big shock!

Honestly feels more like this tweet is deliberately ommitting half the information to paint a specific picture.
It certainly can be true that investors and analysts aren't happy with FF16 sales and brand management, even though Square Enix reportedly is, but that's only going to be a part of that drop in stock prices.
Their much bigger issue is that mobile revenue keeps declining due to old games slowly bleeding out and new games unable to offset those losses. They do have a Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Kingdom Hearts game in the works, so we'll see if any of those can pick up the slack. If they can't course correct, things might get dicey (mobile has made up around 50% of their entire gaming revenue, if that all breaks away, welp).
And FF 14 is in a "down-year" with no expansion and they've started to lengthen the time between expansions. The coming Xbox release is definitely partly a countermeasure to that.

According to David Gibson who attended Square Enix's analyst briefing, the company was hoping for more sales on FF16.

Hope was not the right word. Sorry. The results were in the range of their expectations, feel the penetration of PS5 performance was quite good. (as they said before when announcing the 3m number).

penetration of PS5 performance? What?
I think he means that for Squeenix FFXVI sales were within expectations when taking into consideration the amount of PS5 users.
From a quick google search:
Market penetration is a measure of how much a product or service is being used by target customers compared to the total estimated market for that product or service.

I find that a rather ineffectual excuse.

It's their conscious, unforced choice to only sell to the (relatively small) set of PS5 owners.

I mean, that's why normal 3rd party publishers and developers generally haven't done AAA exclusives for many years now.

The issue here though is the misreporting, a reporter saying that a game fell short of expectations when it actually did meet expectations.

Edit: Apparently there's other reports that FFXVI met expectations for Squeenix, but it didn't meet the high end of the expectations range, and their reasoning for that is the amount of PS5 users? Though, yeah, that's their fault for going exclusive.
