So, I'm rather old. I started gaming on home computers in the mid 80s and my two favorite genres have almost always been turn-based strategy games and turn-based cRPGs (the rest of my top five includes space sims, immersive sims and RPGs in general). I vividly remember the dark times of the 00s during which both my favorite platform (PC) and my favorite genres were supposedly dying. So I can't stress enough how fantastic it is to see a turn-based computer RPG become a huge mainstream hit on PC.

This looks better than I would have imagined. Still not a big fan of the pseudo chibi proportions, but the gameplay looks fun.

I bought two copies. I'm doing my part!

500k+ concurrent players for a turn based crpg is extremely impressive.

Turn based has rarely been popular this past decade outside of your casual/typical Pokemon game. I guess Persona 5 is another big one and Slay the Spire kinda blew up for a bit too. But the combat genre (especially tactical turn based) never gets to shine like this so these #s are crazy.

I was thinking it would be more in the 300-400k range but over 500k is a massive overachievement. Good for Larian.

Low res shadow even on high is pretty bad. As well as the big version number on the top right, what's that all about? Audio seems weird as well in some places. And my character keeps making derpy faces.

Other than that. F5 is My Best Friend: The Game is really fun so far. Even if I know very little of D&D.

Whoops, meant to post this in BG3 thread. Oh well.

Seems like I have to reconsider my game purchases the next few weeks due to school starting up again and my backlog being fucking massive. Alan Wake 2 and Starfield are already pre-ordered, but unless Shadow Gambit and Sea of Stars has a good day 1 price with launch discount, they gotta wait, also gotta delay my purchase of several other games like Armored Core and Super Mario Wonder.

Well for me, 2023 has been a banger of a video game year.

Will Larian become the PC gamers darling CDPR was destined to be?
If anyone was disappointed in CDPR and it's because they announced the game way too early and made the game for too many platforms then got gobbled up in this insane hype machine created by the internet not them

Cyberpunk was a completely different direction than all their other games so it was a huge risk for them in the grand scheme of stuff but if you look at larian their released games since 2002 started as diablo clones then switched to action rpgs then jumped to rebooting their series to a CRPG so I mean all they've done is just make a better version of the 2nd game with baldurs gate and dnd rules and then early access tested it for 3 years~ which was a huge risk in of its self

I just think CDPR should of abandoned the PS4/xbox whatever or shipped them off to a third party and focused on PC/ps5/xbox whatever but then again that all circles back to they announced the game like 8? years before they released it. Then kept kicking it down the road for delays when it obviously needed more delays because they were trying to do too much at once.

But it was obvious something was going to give with CDPR when they had that insane valuation in the billions or whatever before Cyberpunk shipped when all they had done was Witcher, I just want them to still exist and make games in the end.

I can't believe this. In Nocturne you have to download the free dlc or you're playing the vanilla version and not the maniax version. The game never tells you this, I only realized several hours into the game because I started to notice the differences. This is a fucking joke.
I assumed it would default to the complete version.

They did that because the korean version doesn't sell (or at least didn't at launch) the chronicle content, what i don't know is why it wasn't bundled in all the other markets.

I guess my first steam games were a bundle or something:

very true to my habit of not playing things I buy even from the start as well I see, I count 15 games there and the only one of them I ever played at all was Rogue Legacy and I only played that briefly because I didn't like it and stopped

Baldur's Gate 3 is really, really good. Between it, Tears of the Kingdom and RE4 Remake, 2023 is a banner year for video games.

You know, with all the mixed reports about BC on Switch 2 and in general the uncertainty of the Nintendo ecosystem, Im glad my main plattform in PC.

No need to be worried about playing my games when I get a new PC.
I did much of my indie game buying on Switch from 2018 until the Steam Deck was announced in 2021. Thanks to key sites and Humble Bundles, I have many of those Switch games on my Steam account, but as it stands, I will use Nintendo consoles strictly for first party games and the odd timed exclusive I don't want to wait for a PC port (i.e. the new Dragon Quest Monsters).

Definitely looks like a Humble Bundle of sorts

In addition to Thomas Was Alone, Grimrock is really good.

My backlog on PC is so insanely big, I have no problems waiting for a PC port of timed console exclusives. I still regret buying FFXVI day 1 despite getting it cheaper than standard price because I have yet to touch it. I should honestly check if there is any possibility to return the game, but I doubt it as I have removed the plastic.

And I have still quite a lot of a untouched/unfinished backlog on my Switch too. Thanksfully not much on Xbox and Playstation as I only use them for exclusives and there are barely any exclusives for them in the past few years (good thing).
