Not a fan of gg.deals UI changes....
Its more work to find the historical low of a game now, and the keyshop deals are now on the same main page as the proper stores...

Fuckin hell...

What a bunch of assholes. I mean I get it if the people working on this didn't really know how epilepsy worked, and I'd like to think they don't just send customers into seizure for shit and giggles.

Which is what these people are doing and it's just... Bleh. We have a serious bully problem :/.

Edit : and if I have to be intellectually honest about it, we have a social and abuse problem because these people don't behave that way out of nowhere. Not to take the responsibility for their actions out of their hands, it totally is on them, but I think that for people behaving like them to stop increasing in numbers, we need to look at what makes one be like that in the first place.

There should be more law enforcement on the net. It shouldn't be the wild west.
But then you run the risk of giving ideas to fascists that want nothing more than have an iron grip on our communications.

I truly hope there is a way. This is not right.

I think the problem should be tackled at the roots, not the means which, as you pointed out, introduces a slippery slope as soon as you add capabilities like these.

To put it bluntly, these people probably come from a deficient education, failed parenting or very unhappy social and cultural circumstances. Again, this does not absolve them of responsibility, but I believe that to be serious about the problem is to look at the roots behind the behaviors.

We also need to be better at supporting victims, all too often you have people who'd rather play devil's advocate than think about how it felt for them. I can't imagine how that person must have felt.

I have finished reading Canard PC's review of Cyberpunk 2077, and it is exactly what was pointed out by JeuxVideo.com two weeks ago:
  • awful bugs,
  • awful opponent's AI,
  • and, as a smaller issue, a clunky UI.
And yet 8/10 from them. Canard PC is not the kind of mag that rates on a bastard scale of 7 to 10. What a beautiful trainwreck.

Yes, but that is justified by the fact Night City is one of a kind. Apparently, exploring the city is like playing Dishonored in a world scaled like GTA's cities.

As far as I am concerned, that is all I would ask for. I would skip fights/alchemy in The Witcher 3 if I could. I was merely interested in the quests and characters.

I was going to point out that your list was kind of lacking in positives and made it sound like a very expensive bug-writing project :p.

That description is pretty much what I expected and then some, it's a lot more encouraging.

So people, I need your help (yeah, this post is not about Cyberpunk 2077 !)

Now that I have my new monitor, I finally can put together a PC for my mother. Which will be a little shitty in some key departments (just a 250gb ssd as storage), but eh.
So...
Intel 2500K
Asus P5KC
RTX 970
8Go RAM
SSD 250 gb

My priority, uh let's make it priorities, are...
  • I need a cheap Win 10 key (I really would have toyed with Linux but I need her PC to be as compatible to games as mine, like I suppose Game Pass is not on Linux)
  • My mother lives and breathes books, she has a big Calibre library on the main PC. I need a way to have her library on the main PC and on the secondary one be as synchronized as possible. What are my options ?

I'm in the UK so i don't know any european sites that offer OEM keys but they're what i've been using for years as £20 for a key is better than a couple of hundred even if i end up buying 2 or 3 keys over a couple of years.

Genuine License Keys for Windows and MS Office - TheUnitySoft - This is the site i've used for years, maybe someone knows of a euro equivalent?

As for Calibre, i suppose you could copy the Contents and Database to OneDrive or DropBox or wherever and copy it between PCs. Don't know if you can install the Calibre content and DB to a network drive so both PCs could access it which would be easier but some app databases are not suitable for running "Live" from cloud storage. You have to copy them from storage to the local machine or you risk corrupting the databases.

I did see a thread mentioning Calibre Companion and Moon+ but i don't know anything about them, sorry. Might give you a few keywords to start looking into things tho. Good luck!

Regarding Calibre, if you either are running Linux, or can figure out a Windows alternative such as MinGW, rsync is an excellent program, found in most Linux distribs, capable of reliably synchronising remote folders while minimising network use. If you didn't know it existed, you might find looking into it productive.

edit: there are also Cygwin and cwRsync, which seems standalone, for Windows.

I sent an email to gg.deals weeks ago, can't remember how many has passed since then asking for/suggesting a change in the historical price notification and function.

I told them basically it would be much better if they could let users decide if they want to set a new historical recorded price based on
a) "equally or below previous recorded price"
b) "below previous recorded price".

Same function as it's working on itad. As it is right now, every time a game reaches the same previous lowest historical recorded price it's tagged as "new
lowest" which is kind of confusing and I would say even incorrect.

Neverthereless, I got no reply to my suggestion or advice so I didn't bother sending the email once again.

By the way, that guy has wrong suggestions like closing your eyes when in those segments which is not advicable as light obviously can penetrate the eyelids still, in general people should not follow random online medical advice by non experts but always consult your/a doctor that specializes in the issue at hand.

Dafuq.

It was probably one of my most anticipated games, but man, everything surrounding (and theird handling of it) the game has killed my interest (and I have a friend that keeps telling me to get the game day one).
I'll probably get the game in the distant future, but for now I'm sitting this one out.

From what I've read om the CP2077 subreddit, the kind of flashing lights that is used in the game is the same method that doctors use to trigger epilepsy attack.

Of course if that is true I don't know, but if it is, it's very dangerous and CDPR should put accessbility option in the settings or a epilepsy warning.

I don't see any negative consequences of putting a warning and epilepsy accessibility settings in the game.

That's just conjecture by that same guy until otherwise confirmed. I don't see why CDP would care to even research that's a thing, and then put it in deliberately. I'd think if there was any epilepsy reseach, rather than just a "let's put a cool jack in flashing lights sequence here" it'd be to minimize the risk, not the opposite... They could add a setting if it's confirmed their game somehow poses a higher risk than usual because of that one thing that can be optional, beyond that, eh. Though given the setting as that guy himself says there are plenty other insances that could pose a risk, like the game's whole style at night with neon/action.

Any idea why a doctor would try to trigger an epilepsy attack?
Im not a doctor, so no idea. :p I can go ahead and guess it is to se what sort of attack the patient get's which can make the doctor(s) help the patient better? Im gonna assume there's not online 1 sort of epilpesy attack?

The only thing which I can think of is this movie.

They do not use video games, just electricity directly applied to each side of the skull. It is not the kind of help that I would wish for anyone to receive.

I wonder what kind of use doctors have of visual triggers of epilepsy.

I can go ahead and guess it is to se what sort of attack the patient get's which can make the doctor(s) help the patient better
It could be. That is not super nice though.

Yeah, that seems far more likely to me. I feel like people are a bit too quick to attribute things like this to some active research or decision making process, rather than just "hey looks nice".

(Which is not to say that it wouldn't be nice to implement an accessibility option for that in a huge, big-budget game like this, just that finding some malicious motive in the initial design would be a stretch)

Being a patient gamer is a blessing nowadays. I'll play Cyberpunk next year, when most issues are resolved and when I bought a 3000-series GPU at a reasonable price. :)

To test if a person is susceptible, I would think. If the person is lying down, perhaps with something in their mouth to make sure they don't bite their tongue, then it should be reasonably safe.
If the person doesn't get a seizure, their "attacks" might have a different cause, not related to epilepsy. And if the doctor is sure the patient is epileptic, they can then suggest treatment. There's medication that's available, changes in diet, in extreme cases even surgery.

Hasn't it been like that in a long time? I have seen this many times, so it's not a recent new feature

With the lack of info and footage from the console version of CP2077, it seems like despite any bugs, techincal issues and performance issues on PC, the PC version will be the version that's meant to be played.

Started playing Call of the Sea last night via Game Pass and I'm reminded of one reason why I hardly ever play games at launch. Already ran into multiple instances where world geometry fails to stream in properly, which in one case forced me to reload my save.

Should start using whatever Japan uses for anime to automatically filter potential problems. (we have anima watchers here, maybe they know name?)
maybe even at OS level.

Oh God, please no going out for couple days. 20 minutes in line to get medical imagery results, complete with randos talking about how the French government is taking us for fools and how a stand up comedian that was candidate in the 80's was obviously assassinated because he told it like it is.
