SHIN SAKURA WARS 2?!?!

Yeah I know. :loudly-crying-face:
Maximilian Dood got one too, I think it's probably a new Virtua Fighter.
I got one too. Curious, have these gone out to others that are NOT huge fighting game creators?

On another note, Phil Spencer:
You've seen from our history that we haven't touched every franchise that people would love us to touch — Banjo fans, I hear you. But it is true that, when we find the right team, and the right opportunity, I love going back to revisit stories and characters that we've seen previously.

Just started on Rerturnals weird little brother Scars Above. Haven't played a single game the past week, lots of other things to do.

Fighting you say? Why it must be the hotly anticipated Golden Axe: The Duel Remastered!

Would they one up/give up on VF eSports already (yes yes, 3tb Online is different for arcade nostalgia freaks in Japan, eSports was a complete remake/update of 5 and clearly a - perhaps failed by now but they haven't done all they could yet, like multiplatform it - big effort to make it a mainstay)?

Well, if it is a new VF I'd hope it's a reboot. No number. Bring everyone back except the lame demonic/zombie looking bozos. And give it at least a Tekken 3 or Soul Blade level of story based intro, bios and character endings for the arcade mode (no cinematic story crap a la MK) fleshing them out.

The series has always lacked on that front and people can't get invested in its characters at all if they weren't there when it all began and they were pioneering and never before seen archetypes. Other than that we just assume Akira is a Ryu-like, Lau some nasty grandmaster etc. but it's never shown.

Phil's been hearing people for a decade and xbox barely moves forward. He said the same exact thing with a new killer instinct game, needing the right team. My dude the team that took over the previous game and made it beloved is still out there. All you have to do is sign them and greenlight a sequel. You can do that, you're the boss! You claim gamepass makes it so budget and sales don't really matter so what's the hold up? Iron galaxy would love to do a new one as the guys who worked on the latest patch clearly love the IP and the community.

Phil always talks like his hands are tied in some way even though he keeps getting promoted. When he first took over it was repairing mattrick's damage but also the whole excuse about how Xbox is held back by MS and there's other execs in his way. Well daddy Satya gave him 80 billion dollars to buy up half the industry so that excuse is gone. He's currently like #3 in ALL OF MICROSOFT and there's no one in MS' gaming department higher than him so the other exec excuse is gone. Stop making excuses and get something done.

Played 2 hours of Mato Anomalies from the Humble JRPG bundle and I'm... liking it quite a lot so far?

It's a bit hard to get into in the beginning, because they drop you right into the world but do a bad job at helping you make sense of it, you have to work a bit for it.
The setting is really interesting though. I guess I would describe it as a mix of Shadowrun, Silkpunk aesthetics and Persona? Story setup has been interesting too.

And I like the character designs:

Combat is turn based, seems fine but nothing extra-ordinary. Though I only have 2 characters in my party so far out of 4.
Weirdly enough, it also has card-game combat in some sections, it's pretty neat.

It seems like every playable character has a deck associated to them that has its own gimmicks and you can also unlock new character decks by doing companion missions, you can't customize a deck though, it's fixed.

It also let's you pet cats and dogs

"We have no plans to bring Xbox Game Pass to PlayStation or Nintendo"

it's more like... PlayStation nor Nintendo doesn't let us to bring GamePass to their platforms.
I can't blame either company. What Phil Spencer likely proposes is a situation where you access the Xbox ecosystem through PS or Nintendo either through cloud streaming or an app. Neither Sony nor Nintendo is going to want to play ball with that.

Even outside that, it would be a contractual nightmare because third parties are not going to want their Game Pass games meant for the Xbox ecosystem to suddenly be playable on other platforms and potentially take away sales. It's probably one reason why Game Pass isn't (and probably never will) show up on Steam, despite Gabe saying he'd like it. And there are also situations where games simply aren't available on a certain system.

Phil is just doing lip service and trying to paint himself as a good guy who wants everything to be sunshine and rainbows when he's an extremely ruthless businessman.

Loaded up Baldur's Gate and realized this game isn't for me anymore, never played it so I was planning on going through the first two games before jumping into 3, but I realized I really cannot play games with such a dated look and controls anymore. Shallow, but it is what it is I guess.
I'll play BG3 at some point and skip the first two games.

I'll find something else to play for now.

yeah I know those aren't necessary but I do this thing where when a series have multiple entries I start from the beginning and it always feels like one big anventure told across multiple chapters/games!
Just this time it's not gonna happen!

I assume you used the Enhanced Editions? Of course, even with them, these Infinity Engine games are a very different breed to any modern RPGs and the real-time with pause combat will likely feel very strange to any one used to modern games. I personally had little problem with them, but luckily these games are hardly required to enjoy BG3. In fact, aside from a few fun cameos, there really isn't much from BG1 and 2 that appears in BG3 (aside from the setting itself of course), so there really isn't much to lose and the gameplay itself is also entirely different. I'd argue that BG3 is ultimately a much better game than either BG1 or BG2, especially in its writing.

I don't blame you. The old crpgs from the 90s were obtuse as hell even for their day and required a PHD in dungeons and dragons' systems to understand how classes and gear worked and they have some of the least user friendly UIs and menus ever. As we move further from that era it only gets harder to go back and play them no matter how great they are.

When people wax nostalgic for that era they're usually talking about the quality of the writing and how much freedom you had to influence quests and NPCs. They'd like that in modern games, not the UI from hell or keeping a 30 page spreadsheet to plan out your class.

I will say that a special mention here should be Planescape: Torment. It uses the same engine as the Baldurs Gate and Icewind Dale games, but that's where the similarity ends. It does feature the same combat system, but there's barely any focus on it, it's the writing and dialogue that is the most important "mechanic" and it should hopefully be the most accessible in that regard. For anyone who liked more recent games like Disco Elysium for example, it will probably feel very familiar.
The setting of Planescape is also pretty unique, compared to the pretty basic fantasy one that Forgotten Realm adventures usually focus on.

Im nearly at the end of Baldur's gate without playing the first two and really enjoyed it. Doesn't feel like I needed to have played them to know what's going on in it.
I get what you mean with those older games. I'm a comfy couch player and so anything that isn't controller based or at lease has simplistic mouse controls or can be configured using steam controller options i just pass on.

Funny enough Baldur's Gate 1 was the first time I ever played D&D tabletop or otherwise, though I did read through the big manual that came with it that taught you a lot about how D&D worked.

Yeah there's a few returning characters from the first two games and one quest in act 3 I can think of you'll enjoy quite a bit more if you played the originals but really anyone is fine going into Baldur's Gate 3 not having played the first two.

It's funny Baldur's Gate was not for me when it first came out (too much of a FPS/3D graphics fan), but back a few years ago I played through it for the first time and loved it. I've been chipping away at Baldur's Gate 2 slowly for years now.

The UX to BG1&2 was never great. Compare it to something like Myth (I know it's not the same genre, but look at the controls and simplicity).

I know, I know preaching to the choir.

On one hand, what he says makes some sense (your actions have consequences) on the other bigger hand think of the stuff that we were able to experience because of how digital is an option.

Think of how crazy it is that you can have solo dev games that can be released in this day and age and sell tens of thousands of copies.

I was not really buying games for as long as you guys have but I would imagine that game stores look a lot different then, than they do now.

So many cool and unique indie games that otherwise may never have been released. Think of all the people world wide that have easier access to a game (for the most part)

It's also funny seeing how some indie devs that first released 1 digital game would go on to publish games on multiple platforms and even release physical copies of those games, but they all have their start, and without digital storefronts, that start may have been very different or never have even happened in the first places.

Also this whole post is about videos being sold on digital store front. Valve got rid of the feature last year. Sony also got rid of its digital videos.

That's another minor point in its favor.

That's one of my rare instabuys. Momodora RutM was so good. And I also really enjoyed Minoria.

If I'm not wrong Microsoft did the same with some movies too years ago (not sure if they were Disney ones, but I remember something alike with a big studio). Amazon removed a lot of my comicbooks purchases from my library too. Few years ago another movie service removed my legit purchased library cause they ended the service. Since this last one I decided I will never purchase or subscribe to any media service again and I pirate everything digital except videogames.
On PC I only trust in Steam (the main reason I will never buy a videogame on any other launcher).
Some other people was hit with Wii store closure and they lost many downloads or many people cannot download 360 purchases anymore (or at least everything they purchased) and at some point will happen with 3DS or PS3, PSP libraries. I cannot download or play some of my legit purchased games on iOS cause they're not compatible with the lastest OS versions (the reason I decided not buy games on phones anymore XD)
Digital past, present and future is horrible, but pirate is always a great solution.
The last time I had a PS3 it was with cobra cfw and I could play everything on way without worry any of these issues or even better with every DLC unlocked ;P.
If steam closes at some point I won't spend a single buck on videogames anymore I will sail the seven seas.

There’s zero reason to trust any digital distributor. If/when the licensing time’s up, they will do whatever costs them the least amount of money.

Also I wonder what King of Kings is. Frown what I saw it looked like a mobile game.

Why people blame when this happens when you have to specially allow them to appear on Steam and they are restricted by default?

Are you talking about sex games? I never allowed anything ever and I get them constantly in the front page. Just before coming here I added about 10 to the ignore list to have a "clean" front page. What you're saying is not true, at least not for me.
And important note, I never ever bought or played any of that type of games.

edit: fun fact, whenever there's an event that rewards you for visiting the discovery queue, after the first 2 or 3 days of normal recommendations the queue shifts to 50-75% porn games for the remainder of the event.

That's strange, what do your account store preferences look like?
(Account -> Store Preferences -> Mature Content Preferences)

I just turned the lower 3 off for testing and had 0 sexual content on the front page (as expected).
Turned all 3 on and the first game in trending is "SEX Massage". So the mature content preferences selection seems to be working fine, at least for me.

For whatever reason, in the store column all 5 checks were on by default. I never changed any of these settings.
Thanks for pointing this out, I'll disable the last 3 and from now on I'll finally be free from all the porn/hentai games being showcased.

I'd say just disable the last 2, I think the 3rd one is about PEGI 18/M rated games and not AO games, it includes games such as baldur's gate 3 and cyberpunk.
