The only thing I'd say is that Square Enix games are typically cheaper on GMG than they are on Steam so if you're getting Tactics Ogre Reborn I'd have a look on GMG first.Alright, i had to narrow stuff down for Xmas I got steamgifts/giftcards so I have like 75?~ but I eyeballed that stuff but if anyone had suggestions or anything or wanted to shit all over my ideas since im going back and forth on stuff a lot
I also saw it in action for the first time in the digital foundry video. Extremely impressive, to say the least. So what am I actually on about? The hair.
People have been talking about the hair since a few months before it came out. I thought it was pretty funny that DF included it in their list pretty much solely for that reason. Honestly I think the reason why it seems like no one cares is because the game was such a dud. Like yes it has nice hair but everything else about it ranges from mediocre to awful. It's the same reason why no one talks about immortals of aveum and the tech they pushed...game was like a 4/10 so who cares lol.Talking about graphics, I tried the Veilguard character creator very recently.
Now, I don't play a lot of AAA games (especially western AAA games) -- basically the last one was probably BG3, and that's not really focused on graphical fidelity to the same extent as other games with a budget like that.
So what am I actually on about? The hair.
I've had a passion for hair rendering and simulation for 2 decades or so, and the hair in that character creator is by far the best combination of rendering technology, visuals, variety, simulation and detail I've ever seen in an actual game. Pictures don't really do it justice of course.
Why isn't absolutely everyone talking about this? I can think of only 2 reasonable explanations: (i) hair of that quality is actually standard in Western AAA games these days, and I just don't know it; or (ii) people are actually talking about it absolutely everywhere, but since I also don't consume any gaming media I just missed it.
Some might also propose that it's because people don't care about hair technology, but that sounds exceedingly unrealistic to me and I'd discard that explanation.
I care, i still yell about RDR 2 visualsPeople have been talking about the hair since a few months before it came out. I also think some of it is just people not caring that much about graphics anymore. I've been noticing a general sense of fatigue about it online, maybe because of all the news in the last few years of budgets breaking many companies. That's just a guess on my part.
I think I still do too but I've become a lot more picky with it. Like horizon FW is arguably the best looking game ever but I just...don't care, because the game is so bland from top to bottom.I care, i still yell about RDR 2 visuals
This is one of those things that's really the same as when people blame some game for BSOD'ing their system. Also, finally worked out what was BSOD'ing my PC. It was steam. Haven't quite worked out how to fix it, but I can bypass it easily.

i still blame Gaben and his 30%!This is one of those things that's really the same as when people blame some game for BSOD'ing their system.
It's never the game, and in this case, for the same reason, it's not Steam. It's a broken driver.
User mode stuff cannot BSOD your system unless something below it is broken.
Your screenshot even says as much, and it is absolutely correct in this case.
Hey now, user could easily BSOD Windows ||95|| at will, you just had to eject a CD while anything was reading from it.I'm thinking about getting Veilguard mostly because of the hair

Must be because PC is dying, no one wants that shit, gotta give it away.Has anyone else started to notice that some Steam discounts are slowly moving back to the highlight years of 8-10+ years ago?
Quite a few 90% discounts for some at least AA games. I got Everspace for less than a euro.
A few years back it seemed that pretty much everything stayed in the 60%-75% range at most.
And wouldn't it be awesome if the subpage that highlights very deep discounts (reachable from the main page), actually changed highlights each day? Feels like an oversight.
pc gaming died in 1998, thoughMust be because PC is dying, no one wants that shit, gotta give it away.

I enjoyed the Holmenkollen Ski Museum. The jump they built there for the Olympics is pretty epic.In Oslo for a few days, anyone been and have recommendations on what one has to see and do?
If Valve doesn't start enforcing Steam Cloud saves and block stupid third party launchers in 2025, it might happen..........Must be because PC is dying, no one wants that shit, gotta give it away.

Recettear HD announced. No idea if the translation will carry over.
NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5090 & GeForce RTX 5080 Expected Pricing Surfaces Online; Flagship RTX 50 GPU Rumored To Cost $2,600
NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 expected pricing surfaces online. Both models rumored to cost around $2,600 and $1,370 respectively.wccftech.com
Unless you think you somehow need a high-end Nvidia GPU to play PC games, I am not sure what would make you think that. Especially now that Intel is actually starting to produce decent mid-range GPUs.Must be fake. At that price you only need to sell a kidney to get it, I'm sure nvidia wants both...
On a slightly more serious note, it would be funny if gpu prices are what finally kills pc gaming...
Didn't disappoint but they're changing their entire strategy

I still think that Intel's recent hype is a bit premature. They made a decent card at a decent price that competes with nvidia's most hated and worst card of the last decade. It's something but it's not that much.Unless you think you somehow need a high-end Nvidia GPU to play PC games, I am not sure what would make you think that. This is also nothing new. Nvidia began this game with the original Titan GPUs, which were complete overkill, and barely worth the absurd amounts they asked for them back a decade ago.
Honestly, for 1440p gaming, even their mid-tier (by their own numbering scheme) card is darn good. They will still release a higher-tier model, which will likely still cost half of what Nvidia is asking for higher mid tier.I still think that Intel's recent hype is a bit premature. Well, I will be skipping the "getting nearly bankrupted by PC upgrades" game for the 5000 series for sure, and probably the 6000 one too. The 4090 is just way too good. Maybe if path tracing really takes off I might consider upgrading during the 6000 series, but otherwise I should be good for most of this decade.

Same. Skipping 5xxx and waiting for 6xxx series.Well, I will be skipping the "getting nearly bankrupted by PC upgrades" game for the 5000 series for sure, and probably the 6000 one too. Well this is excellent. Recettear was an amazing game and I'd absolutely replay it again with this version.Recettear HD announced. No idea if the translation will carry over.
That's exactly what I thought. "Our business model has worked out really well so far but we absolutely cannot continue this business model in the future". Sure thing broDidn't disappoint but they're changing their entire strategy
