I think when those opinions whitewash bigotry as their justification for playing a game I can see why someone wouldn’t want to be on here.
Let’s not trivialise this as a difference of opinion. Different people have different experiences of racism and bigotry towards themselves or their family and friends, and when those people are saying “this game has issues” and people leave replies like “fuck tha haters, I’m playing it anyway“ or “you’re just looking for any excuse to hate this game” that can come across as “you or your loved ones matter less than my personal entertainment”.
This is an incredibly disingenuous framing of what has actually happened.
I'm going to use the royal 'you' here so this is not directed at you personally but I'm assuming you will block me anyway (or already have, so whatever).
and when those people are saying “this game has issues”
That's not what they're saying though, is it? What they're actually saying is that "this game has issues
and you are a bad person if you buy it". Don't leave that part out. If you buy Hogwarts then you are racist, bigoted, anti semitic, transphobic, homophobic. If you get Atomic Heart you are a supporter of genocide, murder, rape and now racist too. People who think like this have lost their tether to reality. They go around making websites designed for targeted harassment of streamers who have the audacity to stream the game
and think they are the good guys. They go around posting spoilers for the game everywhere just to ruin the experience of those who are playing it
and think they are the good guys. This is
insane behavior. This is why people have now turned against you and go "fuck tha haters".
can come across as “you or your loved ones matter less than my personal entertainment”.
This goes the other way as well. When you tell someone not to buy it then you are saying "my issues with this game (or any product) should matter more to you than anything". Why do you think that is okay? Understand that you will never be the arbiter of morality for anyone other than yourself.
I've said this before; we all buy or skip products for various reasons. It's fine to do so. It's fine to talk about why you're doing so. But to demean and denigrate people who do not behave like you tell them to is caustic and obnoxious behavior, especially in the context of video games.
