Wow, that's a pretty steep launch discount. Considering how the Steam launches of EGS exclusives are usually priced like any other regular launch, it almost seems desperate. Must've done so well on the EGS lmaoso anyone remembers this

I think they mean it's one of the first games to get support for it. Which isn't how the word "exclusive" works, but marketing people really like the e word, whether it really fits or not.
I mean, World Premiere was right there. Or do they need to pay a licensing fee to Keighley to use that one?

Let’s say, hypothetically, a friend found a decade old 1.5 TB hard disk that was surprisingly still working and with a lot of “unofficial” game images from his/her days of high-sea sailing, over 15 years ago.
Some quick observations this person could make:

- 685 GB could hold a lot of “big” games… about 220. Today that’s what? 6 games?
- It was really annoying to try to keep everything organized with isos/bins/clonecds, patches, cracks, and so on. No wonder the “piracy is a service problem” strategy worked.
- While a lot of the games can be purchased cheaply today, there are 74 of them that aren’t available, including a lot from big publishers.
- That list includes games like: Black and White, NOLF2, some Need for Speeds (Porsche), Homeworld Cataclysm, Freelancer/Starlancer, AvP 2, Psi Ops, the original Prey, and the Lord of the Rings RTS (Battle for Middle Earth 1 and 2) that were actually pretty good.
- So yeah, no news here… but holy crap this industry sucks at preservation, and it only got worse with the online elements.

Oh yeah I would never condone this kind of behavior, but that list of unavailable games is probably going to be copied to a slightly newer (and hypothetical) hard-disk
I know it's obvious, but this kind of thing really is a reminder for me how many good games would be completely lost without this side of PC gaming. And that's with sites like GoG that actually took some games off that list just last September (Star Trek ones). To say nothing about not so good but still interesting games like Trespasser.

its kinda why modern crazy DRMS like denuvo that ties itself to game functions, that uses lots of system and HW ids to decrypt itself and that gets broken through veeery slowly , scare me so much .... i got dozens of legit CDs/DVDs practically unplayable the legit way thx to shitty DRMs like securom or starforce aswell as similar old harddrive full of rare ones that are either abandonware at this point or just lost unavailable ones i dont want to lost
BTW:thx god for pcgamingwiki and the bucaneers from the time for a possibility to make them run these days (might not be the case for bunch of denuvo-ed titles in few years)

I've put my SM64PC stuff on an external drive but yes, it's been forked to hell and back with nearly 1,000 forks on n64decomp alone. I assume most of the talk is on discords or specific emulation/port forums now. I did have this bookmarked which may help but it's a bit out of date. Actually it's very out of date but it has a link to the discord which may help.

finished Artful Escape the other day; light on gameplay, but a truly amazing audiovisual experience with great production values, and it's short.
started Scarlet Nexus earlier. I have a feeling it'll end up being too long and repetitive for my taste given the length of one playthrough, but so far it seems pretty fun

Seriously, we should do GOTY votes with a five year lag. I've played plenty of 2016 releases at this point. 2021 games? Not a lot.
I really like Alice Madness Returns...but it was too long, many sections couldve been cut shorter. Easily double the length it needed to be. The PC version also had problems and needed tinkering. But still, I liked it.
However, these updates seem so pointless to me, since it'll be years until Alice Asylum comes out, anyway.

Last month, when the initial rumors for the 3090 Ti started, there were also rumors about a 3070 Ti 16GB version, which was first rumored to come out in early January, but the rumored release was then changed to after the chinese new year.
In a normal GPU market, this would have been somewhere between $600 and $700, but, we're not in a normal GPU market...
AMDs current rumors for desktop GPUs are just about the low end ones, RX 6500XT and RX 6400.
Then there's the upcoming Intel GPUs, but who knows if there'll be enough stock of those or if the drivers will be good enough.
I'm really curious about the Intel GPUs. The traditional rule of thumb was to never buy an Intel product of a new type earlier than 3 generations in, but hopefully they'll do better with this.
Personally I'm in the fortunate position of having a 3090 (that I bought at its 1499 MSRP!) so I can watch this play out from a relaxed perspective, but I really wish the GPU market would normalize soon.

I'm realizing, I can't get an Intel GPU unless I want to give up VRR. Ughhhh.
Intel integrated GPUs starting with the 11th gen support VESA adaptive sync, so their upcoming discrete GPUs should support that as well (unless your screen is GSync only).

Welp, seems Samsung are unable to repair my monitor, for some unfathomable reason. Apparently replacements parts are no longer available or something, which is weird since it's a fairly recent model and they are still selling it as far as I can tell... They offered me a full refund, though, so ¯\(ツ)/¯
Kind of a bummer but I've been having a tiny bit of buyer's remorse anyway so whatever. I'll just get something cheaper with a lower refresh rate. 240hz was way too high, I probably wouldn't even notice the difference between that and something around 144hz. Oh well, time to go monitor shopping again!
