Nobody knew about eX+ until after Aksys had already announced the basegame. I'll rephrase - people at XSEED wanted to do Tokyo Xanadu, but management had to decide between it and a different title. At the time, the company did NOT have the manpower for PC ports, and they didn't want to publish a Vita exclusive.
It does all just come down to money in the end. It's just sad Falcom doesn't take a slightly more hands on approach when it comes to checking on the quality of the Western localization, especially after fans in the West have been so spoiled by the great team at XSEED, or former team I should write.
It's sad as a fan of Falcom to realize that it has suddenly gotten completely unrealistic to expect that kind of care (in the localization) and competence (in the actual PC port).
At the same time, despite all that care, the games have never sold all that much. Maybe NISA can make up with sheer marketing what they lack in everything else.

Since I have a few days off, I have started playing or replaying a few games, and I've been jumping between titles: playing a few levels of Earth Defense Force 4.1, playing a case of the Phoenix Wright collection, a few pinball matches here and there, (...).

Considering this, what would be a better game to play between all this: Catherine, or Death Mark?
I mean, of the two, what's a better game to stop playing after 30-60 minutes, and come back to it later, without losing part of the story?

Phoenix Wright is great for this, since it's episodic/case based, which allows me to complete one (or a day of a case), and come back to it later.

FWIW, the whole reason Ys VIII got re-translated was due to a Falcom fan at NISA making a stink. Folks over there do care, and CSIII is looking to have been much better handled. Maybe management learned something from Ys, hopefully.

I would choose Catherine, the gameplay is different from PW and each stage can be covered in the time frame you need :D

Wasn't there a Japanese Falcom fans outrage over the translation? Choice quotes from the original were trending on Twitter there.

Wait, dropping the Falcom titles was (at least partially) a management decision? If that's the case, then I guess there's really no reason for me to give a shit anymore. Between all the departures/firings and the credits thing, I was starting to feel a bit soured on XSEED in general and feeling a little bad about it. But whatever, no reason for me to be so invested in this if the actual companies releasing these games don't give a shit. And I'm including Falcom in this.

Still sucks that Ys and Trails couldn't find a better home, though. Like I said, the redone localization is fairly serviceable so I'm at least a little hopeful for future games IF they learned from their mistake with Ys VIII. They really need to get their shit together on the ports, though...

Seems Epic is missing yet another feature, this one being keeping track of what day it is

Greak: Memories of Azur is a side scrolling single-player game with traditional hand drawn animation. In this adventure, the player will take the role of three siblings: Greak, Adara and Raydel; whom you will need to guide through the lands of Azur. They will be able to alternate control between them at any moment and use their unique abilities to escape from the Urlag invasion.
Coming 2020 Developed by Navegante / Published by Bromio

Delayed to November for Polish

Every move in John Wick Hex feels like a scene from the movies: each action you choose has risks and consequences, and each weapon changes the tactics at hand. Ammo is finite and realistically simulated, so time your reloads and make the most of the tools you find on the job. The game hits home with an original storyline expanding the films’ universe, unique graphic noir art design, and the world-class voice talents of Ian McShane, Lance Reddick and more.

this one is weird as hell and apparently released from erly access,

weirdly fascinated by this one)

Honestly, my thoughts on EGS have shifted. Not positively, more in apathy. Like, the whole thing is more than likely just going to flounder on its own accord, with how incompetently its being handled on every single front. So, no real reason to feel bad about getting Tetris Effect, and buying it again a year later.

If you don't like what Epic is doing, don't reward them for doing so by giving them your money. All exclusivity deals are timed, and there are plenty of other great games to play on other storefronts.

Greak: Memories of Azur looks pretty cute and I've added Elsinore to my wishlist, thanks as always for the updates, prudis!
I'm really looking forward to Blacksad as well, loved the comics.

Oh, I'm also adding most of you on Steam, feel free to add me as well. Or to ignore / block me of course :P
Because I'll be honest: I'll post quite a lot of screenshots.

Thanks for the heads-up. :dabblob:
I guess I'll be doing the same. ;)

But, to be fair, they are lovely screenshots, though. :thumbsupblob:

Rather than dating a live i would prefer to live a date
I'm still waiting for a Japanese VN to properly simulate an actual relationship, especially the "why don't you want to go have dinner with my mom?" lectures.

And they're pure evil! I've reinstalled Deus Ex because of them! :face-with-stuck-out-tongue-and-winking-eye:

Kidding of course.. well, about the evil part, I did reinstall Deus Ex Mankind Divided.

Your shots are amazing and always great to check out when I'm going through my activity feed. Thank you for sharing them!

This is where I'm at basically. Unless they pull off a megaton like moneyhatting Bloodborne as a full exclusive, I don't see myself ever caving. I still get annoyed when they announce something like Tetris Effect but ultimately it's just a delay as far as I'm concerned, and I never had any issues with those. I'm mostly apathetic towards the whole thing now.

Honestly, at this point all these deals really accomplish is making me lose interest in those games. There's plenty of other stuff to play, a lot of which is already in my Steam library. When those moneyhatted games come to Steam, they'll be competing for my attention with my backlog and whatever new games are coming out at the time. I mean, I'm already waiting a year for Metro Exodus, what's a few more months at that point? Especially if they're stupid enough to launch on Steam at full price lol.

Rage 2 for -50%... took a month longer from what I was hoping but maybe now it's the time. Unfortunately Doom Eternal has even worse regional price over here so is probably going to have to wait for a -66%...

it's only slightly less awful than Octopath ... very, very slightly ...
Hey... in my region we went from a +0.33% from the base US price for Octopath to a -15.14% for this one, so... it is something.... and at this point, I'm surprised at each 1% the major publishers give us.

Also, I should probably take the opportunity to fire up some friend requests, let's just just say my friends list is so "old school" that I think at least half hasn't logged on in years :P

To be blunt about it - XSEED wanted to have a partnership with Falcom, but also have the power to not localize games if they didn't feel confident in them. The fact that the Trails series managed to survive in the west after how badly they messed up TitS SC's release is a damn miracle - the fact that they pretended that they hadn't already announced The 3rd along with FC/SC back in 2010/2011 probably didn't make Falcom too happy.

They (Falcom) obviously do care about localization. The whole thing that led to Ys VIII's re-TL was because of the interpreter for Kondo-san during their interviews in the lead up to Ys VIII being asked - by Kondo! - how the translation was going. Once he (the interpreter) had the chance to see the status of the translation a few weeks before launch he petitioned for the re-TL. They (Falcom) took NISA's offer for Ys VIII since they had been bidding for Ys since Seven on the PSP, and after the Tokyo Xanadu situation, where Falcom really wanted XSEED to do the TL, they decided that if XSEED were going to pick and choose what games to bring over - Falcom would be better off letting other localization companies have a chance at their titles.

NISA messed up with Ys VIII. That much is obvious - but they fixed the translation (relatively) quickly and provided Falcom with both a PC port and a Switch version, both things that Falcom couldn't expect XSEED to release in a timely manner, alongside the much stronger marketing push. AX 2017 was filled with Ys VIII panels. It was the first time that Kondo-san had been in the US at all, it was the first time he had the chance to see the western Falcom fanbase. For all of the initial issues with the Ys VIII translation, of course Falcom would continue working with NISA after all of that. They might've messed up at first, but at least they were showing a dedication to the partnership that XSEED never really had. Sure, they released plenty of Falcom games - but they never really treated it like a partnership, unlike NISA has.

It sucks what happened with Ys. It sucks that XSEED lost CSIII, but I'd argue that it was a matter of time with how XSEED management was treating that partnership in the first place, and how NISA had been gunning for that partnership for nearly a decade.

None of those games are Tetris Effect. And I am an impatient man.

And as I said, whether Epic succeeds or not is more or less dependent on their own actions. Will they get to becoming a mainline storefront where the silent majority will house their entire library in? At this rate, hell no. And my individual actions will not change that.

So when is that Steam update happening again? The one with the new community stuff, that shows you what your friends are doing in one particular game?

Is The Elder Scrolls Online the only game that has made use of the newer Steam email feature? For the most part you get a few different types of emails from Valve about games. A game you wish listed is out now or it's on sale, a name game by a dev/publisher that you follow is out now. The newer types of email tells you "news about a game you play", hey there is a new expansion (DLC) or the game currently has a free weekend which means more people are playing it online for a limited time. It also tells you about publisher sales.

I am playing Portal Knight and it's an okay game, it's not bad but also not great. There is exploration but it doesn't feel very rewarding, building can be fun. This game does have RPG elements but they do feel rather lackluster. oh well. I hope that DQB2 does eventually get a PC release though.

Ditto. Imma karate chop anyone putting spoilers in my activity feed
Are achievements among the last things implemented in typical development, or something?

Played Wolfenstein The Old Blood. Decent FPS, managed to unlock almost every perk, final boss had an interesting twist, recommended.

Played Grow Up, I rescued MOM, looks like the game wants me to collect every item and to complete every challenge before showing me an ending, no thanks.

Started playing Snake Pass gifted to me by FunktionJCB, decent blend of platform and puzzle, reminds me of the Umihara Kawase games in that the controls are simple but allowing you to do complex stuff.

I actually survived that part.

Not always but sure it's one thing that indicates that the important stuff is ready

1 - No ETA but expect it to be End of the Summer/Autumn, 2019 for sure, although the prev. version some of us have been using for a while was a buggy and only 4K games have the new assets so, I'm thinking that they are waiting for something, Gamescom is almost here so I kinda expect them to announce something.

2 - no, Cyberpunk 2077 was also a test for the mail system, but ESO was the first to tell about an event (DLC in this case)

Speaking of adding friends, this is a rough question.

How do I purge my friendlist? I already went through and deleted the people not on 2+ years.

___

Also randomyl tried a F2P game called Captain StarShot

Only played like 5 minutes, but its pretty..decent.
