Does it sound better if I say I usually don't want to risk it with first batch hardware?

I get what you're saying and yeah there's a big risk but there's also big pros. It's a matter of how the pros and cons measure up for you. Either wayyou can always wait and see how well they work and buy later, I don't believe we'll suffer from something similar to what's happening with the ps5.
Personally I love the idea of a portable emulation/indie machine that has access to my complete library.

WOO BABY THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR
THE STEAM DECK, FITTED WITH THE AMD VAN GOGH, SWEET 16 GIGS OF RAM, AND THE POWER OF A BASE PS4 RIGHT BY MY FINGERTIPS? AND IT ALSO HAS MEASURES AGAINST SCALPING, WHERE USERS CAN ONLY BUY ONE PER USER, AS WELL AS RESERVATIONS BEING AVAILABLE FIRST FOR CREDIBLE USERS WHO HAVE SPENT MONEY ON STEAM?

WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG? I SURE HOPE THEY SHIP TO NORWAY
RIGHT
right

and now you've learnt how my day was softly improved, and how I now wait till the "soon" news on when I can reserve one

Sweeney can't talk shit about SteamDeck because he supports the Switch and makes money off Fortnite on it. Talking shit about the Deck will make him look like a giant hypocrite.

But you know he wants to say something bad. You can just see him being so angry he can't lol

Maybe if I get a Steamdeck I will finally dive into the expanded free trial of the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV allowing me to play through the entirety of A Realm Reborn and the award-winning Heavensward expansion for free with no limit on playtime because I can play it while on the toilet

Hey now this sounds like corporate propaganda to me,
Tim Sweeney isn't the kind of guy who would just go and say something whilst doing the opposite.

This calls for a branded steamroll of toilet paper.

The more I read on the Steam Deck the better it sounds. That fast suspend feature especially is exactly what this sort of device needs to feel console-like.

I tried Automata with the new patch and it seems to run better on my machine
The Steam Deck seems right up my alley in terms of what it offers. Right now as recent grad I'm still looking for a job but I'm going to prioritize upgrading my computer first and then getting the Steam Deck later on.

Its still so crazy to me that Valve was able to beat out Sony/Xbox to a handheld device in this Switch success timeline. And those 2 companies make billions charging people for online play and partnered with AMD for a long time too.

I get Valve has OS and backwards compatibility advantage within the PC space but still no excuse Sony didn't make a PS4 portable with how massive that platform became. The hardware is there and the Deck is proof heh. And Xbox BC is great too. It makes sense for them to make something but Valve is the one to actually do it lol.

I think Sony completely gave up on portables after Vita, and I don't see them coming back.
Don't think Microsoft really cares about expanding their gaming audience to a specialised handheld device, not when Gamepass already covers all Android phones.

And I surely hope Nintendo is sweating. There is a dire need of healthy competition in the handheld realm. With Steam Deck, I truly hope Nintendo will be pushed to deliver a better Switch variant next time.
Muramasa and SteamPal news all in one night? We might be going into lockdown but at least it's not all doomposting. :flare_switch:

They should have still tried. Maybe they still will.

Switch sold 85 million units already and on pace to do 130+ I don't understand how they sit around and not try to replicate the success. Most of the Switch library is steam indies and regular 3rd party titles that don't need 10 teraflop machines.

Xbox could do a kids minecraft handheld which alone would sell a ton. Gamepass would be icing on the cake. And Sony could actually attempt to compete with Nintendo in Japan. They really don't care. Its unfortunate.

Nintendo budges for nothing but itself. They've got their blinders on and will keep on doing what they do regardless of what happens :pensive-face:

The worst part about the Steam Deck is that the hardware is going to hog up another spot in the top 10 weekly sellers chart.

The Steam Deck is an enthusiast device and won't be in the same universe as the Switch as far as sales go. It looks like a cool toy and I'm getting one, but it's going to mostly be a niche thing.

If this sells a tenth of what the Switch manages I'd call it a success. I don't think Nintendo will be too concerned.
10% of the Switch would be 8.5 million units and I think Valve would be over the moon if they sold that many.

Lets go. I need that SCv2 soon.

It's fun reading this stuff. FGC twitter has been going on and on for the last few weeks about how difficult it would be to run a PC tournament due to price and specs. It's almost like Valve has been reading it.

I actually like that. with Sony and Microsoft battling it out for the mainstream i like that Nintendo just do their own thing. It's refreshing. Like Valve in a way, i know people get annoyed at them but i don't need Valve to do the same as everyone else. It'd be boring. For me Nintendo and PC/Steam are my main gaming platforms partially because they do what they want and what they find interesting.

It's been that way for years and selfishly i don't really want either company to change.

The one thing that will be endlessly entertaining with Steam Deck, are the folks perpetually complaining "Valve do nothing", when they spent the past near decade from the original Steam Universe push, developing so many useful features like Steam Input / Link, and all the Linux, Vulkan, DXVK, Proton efforts through the years, all coalesing into Steam Deck - and nailing the price.
Impressive stuff. Hopefully they launch well.
