Yea. It was $5 for a while with the coupon. It's now 15% off on both EGS and Steam, so I don't think the coupon can be used anymore.

So Exo One is as good as it looked and probably a day one purchase if it's not overpriced.

I hope that Squadron game is going to be good but if the flying in BF2 is anything to go by, I'm a wee bit worried. Still, they have made attempts in particular in the VR space that have been pretty decent. Here's hoping :).

Kaldaien (of Special K mode fame) is working on P4G and already has some tweaks he is testing including:
-a 120 FPS optimized version
-Use of an outside tool (Special K does not distrbute patched executables) to make the game Large Address Aware on 64bit systems. The real fix would be for Atlus to release a 64 bit version of the game instead of this 32bit one.
-some hacks to reduce the amount of motion blur. Apparently eliminating it entirely would be very difficult given how it was coded.
-Other settings to fix framepacing, reduce stutter, etc.

More personal impressions of titles I picked up cheap from EGS

The Sinking City - The low budget is very apparent in this, but it's certainly got charm. The combat is clunky, and the open world is far too big for this kind of game (leading to a lot of backtracking between locations on any given quest as you move from point a to b as you chase down leads), but it's certainly got atmosphere and I really appreciated the way the game doesn't hold your hand in the investigations; they're still ultimately fairly simple but appreciated nonetheless. I was surprised to see how low this had scored tbh, I found it much better than the recent Call of Cthulhu.

Superliminal - This was a real disappointment sadly. It's very short but that doesn't actually matter; if you watch the trailer for this then you've already seen all the tricks the game has to offer, it never really does much else with the perspective mechanics.

Really, it's a 32 bit binary? Guess they really wanted to make it feel like a game from 2008.

Of course, the Dark Souls guys have to piss on the parade and claim that Dark Souls is a JRPG and holds the crown.

If DS is a JRPG, than Call of Duty and battlefield are RPG's
I have to wonder how these people rationalize something like Costume Quest. Made by a western developer but anyone arguing that it's not a JRPG is just being intentionally obtuse.

So what? You can play on a much, much higher resolution, considering it supports 200% superscaling, and as Kaldaien reports, it's already causing issues with the way the game expects continuos memory regions to be there. Compiling with it with 64 bits isn't any work for the developer, nor does it exclude anybody in 2020. It's just dumb. Which is why I was poking fun at it.

NUTS demo... kinda sucks? I really wanted to like it because of the wacky squirrel-surveillance premise, but it's just tedious to play. It's one thing that the core gameplay involves trial-and-error positioning and repositioning of video cameras to catch footage of squirrels on tape; it's quite another that the game forces you to manually backtrack to your base to check the videotapes, and then to manually backtrack to the cameras to reposition them if you didn't position them correctly for the shot. it has decent production values and strong potential, but the devs really need to rethink the way the gameplay loop is structured

It use PS360 era checkpoint system, and the disguise system is silly requiring you to rely on Detective Mode to avoid getting spotted by certain NPCs.

Also, why are there certain sctions where you must avoid the cops for?

Considering that the Vita source code probably required a bit of work to get to run on PC in the first place (I'm talking about the earliest days of the porting process, essentially), if they had properly aimed for a 64bit build from the beginning, I doubt it would have caused any extra work. Quite the opposite, actually.
Doing it now might be a bitch, but that's generally true in software developement, changes later always cost more than earlier.

Whether Dark Souls is a JRPG or not is depending on people's narrative.

When people are shit-talking JRPGs, the fans wouldn't want to label Souls as JRPG.

Absolution is a competent linearly structured stealth action game (think Splinter Cell Blacklist) that's very unlike Hitman and is also the last time Hitman looked great (for the time of release), The next games are blandly realistic even if they have great amounts of polygonal and texture detail if you can max them at 4K (you probably can't). Absolution was stylish, shiny and performed wonderfully. When Hitman 2016 was announced I hoped it would basically be Hitman 2 levels/systems with Hitman Absolution visuals and mechanics polish but nope. Somehow the engine use and mechanics/art style regressed to jank.
PS3/X360/PC game from 2012 right there folks.

From what I’ve seen about Demon’s Souls and what I’ve played of Dark Souls, they absolutely are JRPGs. DSII and so on are more action than RPG, with Bloodborne dropping the RPG part completely.

I think they just started making a different kind of game. The older Hitman games were sandboxes but in a very-action game style. Starting with Hitman (2016) and then Hitman 2, they really are almost making a systems game where you just put the various systems to work against each other.

Yeah there is action in them, but playing them that way always feels bad. You want to be playing it like a clockwork puzzle game where the solution is fitting the weird suits and weapons they give you together. Any time you try to just run and gun through the new hitman games it sucks and you die from either the bad aiming or janky movement or you run into an NPC who then causes 50 cops to swarm you. Its a bad feeling.

I love the new Hitman games, but they really aren't like the old ones and I don't want them to be. I can totally understand if people who loved those aren't into the new ones, but if anything I think the new ones are the best ones they've made thus far. I don't need more realistic graphics in my ridiculous murder sandbox. I just need more and better interactions. Its a systems game now instead of an action one.

If it's an RPG and it's from Japan it's a JRPG. it's as simple as that.


In addition to that JRPG is also a style of RPG, so you can have an indie game that is pretty much a JRPG. Indie-JRPG Jank???

Stuff like Dark Souls and Dragons Dogma are more inspired by western RPGs.


DQ takes ques from Wizardry.


The newer Wizardry games that were made, were made in Japan, people didn't seem to like them since they felt too much like DJRPGs.




As for P4G, I think it has done over 30k now?

P4G will eventually hit other consoles and when it does hopefully it becomes like Yakuza and ATLUS/SEGA choose to make it multiplatform.

The only benefit that I can think of for why they would stick to consoles exclusive stuff would be because of marketing deals that they could get. But at the end of the day multiplatform will likely help them out a lot more. And maybe with other parts of SEGA willing to pitch in to help (remember the 2017 SEGA EU List?) and get games on multiple platforms. This way people win in the end,


The only people that loose are some fan boys that want it to stay PS Exclusive.

Mainline Persona is now multiplatform (I don't think that ATLUS has yet to mention anything in regards to going that route) and maybe SMT will follow suit and other ATLUS published/developed stuff as well.


ATLUS was among one of the last Japanese devs holding out from releasesing on PC but that may no longer be the case?


I do wonder how ATLUS devs in Japan feel about P4G getting as much attention as it has. People in the western branch seems to be very happy that the game has been doing very well and some of them have even pointed out about the concurrent players (because that are at least people that purchased the game day one).

What if more people in Nippon were talking about P4G rather than than the games shown off at the PS5 event???

How useful is that as a genre classification, though? Like, okay, game was made in Japan. What does that actually tell you about the game? Nothing. I'd argue that it's completely useless. If someone says "I like JRPGs like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest.." Would you seriously recommend Dark Souls to them? Would you not recommend Costume Quest simply because it wasn't made in Japan?

To me, it makes much more sense to use the gameplay and mechanics to determine a game's genre. Overly broad and uninformative genre labels are why people keep coming up with terms like metroidvania and soulslike. They don't actually mean anything but at least you know exactly what kind of game you're gonna get.

Anyone have problems with multiple controllers connected (or not) in Persona 4 Golden? The camera constantly pans right in the dungeons. I didn't try disconnecting my controllers yet and leaving just the DualShock4 but I did try using the different axis and stuff on the other controllers and none seemed to change anything. Like the axis on my flight stick and the different inputs on my Hori Fighting Commander.

A 1/3rd of my Steam friends now owns P4G. :dana_shock:
66 people on my friend list own it now, up from 57 the last time I checked yesterday.

Also, from Era:
fyi, since the credits for the PC port are now available: contrary to speculation that this was a sega europe project, it appears to have largely been developed in japan.

the director on the port was daisuke yajima from atlus, who was a programmer on p3/p4/p5/pq, and the art director was sachie tousuji, who did interface design for p4/p4g/pq/p5. most of the actual development work appears contracted out to preapp partners, which is a japanese dev house. all the programmers on the port apparently worked on the pc port of a hyperdimension neptunia game a few years back too, haha.

I don't really know genres. I just call things the same as others since it might make it easier to get a vauge idea of what the game might be like. Despite what people on here have told me I still don't really even know what an imersive [UWSL]sim really is. [/UWSL]



As for the P4G thing that makes a lot more sense. I guess that pretty much confirms that the game will also release on consoles in the future? And that ATLUS JPN was not going to do the same thing that they did with Catherine. Now everyone will be able to enjoy Persona. No more "port begging"? The UI prompt stuff was unusual especially because it also supported N/S.

This would also explain why somethings look so sharp in the game. Since they redid somethings?


What I do find weird is how the exe referes to the game as Persona 2008 (I forget the full name but it mentions 2008)
