To me, this is the most interesting game from the show (even though I am not a fan of idol business irl)
PC = Steam,GOG, and Humble Bundle. So Trials of Cold Steel IV no Steam Logo, only PC :S
I mean you only have to switch a few things around and it's basically the same thing. The pressure is on for Ys 9 with your expectations!
It's not that easy to get a well-performing port out of it (compared to anything based on mainstream engines).
Totally outdated.

Well if you think about it, turn-based strategy is just a synonym for Visual Novel: you take turns talking and the strategy is in selecting appropriate dialogue choices. How's the gameplay of that Re:Zero game?
It says turn-based strategy, but there's no combat in the trailer at all.

Yes, Trails games are on a customized Phyreengine, while Ys is on Falcom's Yamaneko engine. (Note: I am of course only talking about released games where this is publicly available informationDo the Ys and Trails games still run on separate engines?
I think it's because it was physical LE edition announcement.I liked the format of this presentation a lot, great selection of games coming tô PC, only funny thing was the EGS logo omission on the Samurai Shodown segment.
During the for honor DLC, It showed as a generic PC game logoI think it's because it was physical LE edition announcement.
Ah you are right I missed it.During the for honor DLC, It showed as a generic PC game logo
Two possibilities:During the for honor DLC, It showed as a generic PC game logo
Man, it sure is nice to no longer have to worry about port quality for Falcom games. Things were looking pretty grim for a couple years there...

WE GOT ONESo I've been thinking about those japanese games you are all so excited about. Should I, like, try some of them out? I don't like the anime aesthetic at all but I think I would be able to look past that if the games themselves are good enough. So basically I'm looking for recommendations on japanese games. I mostly enjoy turn-based strategy and role-playing games but I wouldn't mind recommendations in other genres.
This is a good suggestion. Trails in the Sky is anime but not too anime so its a very good game to dip your toes into the animeness.Play Trails in the Sky and thank us later.

Trails in the Sky would be great then. RPG with turn-based combat. The first game is usually pretty cheap in sales and the series is unparalleled in world-building and making the world feel alive. Estelle is an excellent protagonist too.So I've been thinking about those japanese games you are all so excited about. Should I, like, try some of them out? Leave your mark on both the Steam and Epic Early Access platforms
Welp SamSho DLC have PC Logo and its only on Epic.PC = Steam,GOG, and Humble Bundle.
WE GOT ONE
Memes aside, do you have any particular experience with recent-ish japanese games? To see what kind of stuff you might like.
So you've never played any Japanese games and need recommendations from the last ~35 years or just something modern and recent that's easier to digest?
Not all Japanese games look anime. Like for turn based strategy there's nothing really anime about the long running Romance of the Three Kingdoms series...
Even Final Fantasy Tactics doesn't really look anime, whether in the full size art or the chibi in-game pixel art. It's all jst beautiful artistic direction in either mode.
Or pretty much all the popular SEGA games, save for early Phantasy Star and Shining Force games I suppose. Same for Namco and plenty other companies...
Anime is far from all Japanese games have had to show throughout gaming history so I don't get how anime is the reason to not have tried any these decades.
Anime itself has very different styles, it's not like all the 2D/3D artists out there work in the same exact way based on the region of their origin or something...
Even the same studio's output can look radically different, Princess Mononoke sure doesn't look like The Tale of the Princess Kaguya but both are Ghibli films.
I think Valkyria Chronicles is a great suggestion. It's very anime, don't get me wrong, but it's also really good, quite recent, and will probably be very affordable in the upcoming sale.
Something like Trails is harder to get into at first IMHO.
I mean, just make it run better than Ys8 on day one. Also maybe Nisa should actually attempt to give a shit in translating it the first time around. With enough time editing etc.The pressure is on for Ys 9 with your expectations!
Yes.As it happens I do own Valkyria Chronicles. I bought it to show my support for Sega's porting efforts. Should I start with that?

I don't feel like I'm asking for a whole lot here. But yeah, if Ys IX can live up that, than I'll be a happy man on its release date.
I was in this exact position when Persona 4 came out on PC -- I also find anime disgusting, but as long as there aren't balloon tits or sexualized children, I can overlook it if ithe game is good enough. I've played quite a few hours of it, and it's fantastic. It's my first JRPG (it is a JRPG, right?). I'm playing on easy, and the combat is super easy -- it's a great chillout game between that and the longer character-based activities. I'm definitely glad I tried it.So I've been thinking about those japanese games you are all so excited about. Should I, like, try some of them out?
