AHA-Lambda Define "lately". I replayed it a few years ago and yeah, it's aged for sure. Badly though, i dunno.
There's some good and interesting ideas and scenarios in the game but it lacked a certain spark or magic that made it special. It was overshadowed at the time too but i found it to be a decent enough "Of-the Era" game.

I'll have to watch that video later, oh and don't forget to post it in the Youtube Game Video thread.

edit: there was a DX11 Renderer released for it earlier this year too... and it's £1.09 so i may have to get it on GOG.

... and an ESRGAN Pack. Wow. That's a lot of love for a badly aged game.
thanks 👍
Yeah it’s definitely got a cult fanbase surely stemming from its early years rather than anything more recently.
It’s stupid cheap on gog right now and I’m curious but I’m still erring on it not seeming to be worth my time

probably because it looked SERIOUSLY impressive when it released .... and because of the whole horror thing - there weren't really all that many shooters doing that kind of stuff back then

Yup, the Unreal engine really did look pretty fine back then. People laugh at the Edge cover with unreal on it and the tagline "And Yes this is a PC screenshot". It did look bloody good for the time and back then UnRealEd was really bloody good for getting a quick concept knocked up and looking good and quickly flipping between Editor and Game at a time when you had to recompile changes to Quake Engine Tech which could slow you down quite a bit.

It's flipping compilcated these days and obviously the boss has gone a bit mad but Unreal Engine was super simple and quick to use compared to Quake and Source. We could get artists up and running within days and producing some great ideas not long afterwards.

Seriously, it was some impressive stuff back in the day.

I mean, yes we laughed at the hyperbole and we could see the issues with it but at the time that was bloody good compared to what was available especially as it ran at decent resolution and frametrates. Well, provided you had the hardware.

Yeah I'm just being a dick, It did look great when it first came out. I just love that cover for that title.
There's things that just out of context or whatever people will always go "Huh?"

The original FF7 with the blocky little lego like people was crazy at the time for 3d stuff but now looks horrendous by comparison

Why do people care about W11 again?
Yeah, I truly don't understand why anyone would be in such a rush to get it.
I mean, I am in a position where I actually need my PC to work reliably so I'm absolutely not :p

DirectStorage.
I'd expect the first game to actually take advantage of that to be released in 2022. And the first one I care about in 2024

In game at a solid framerate none of the issues with that screenshot were a problem. The Skaarj looked even cooler/deadlier/more like a predator

Speaking of GOG, anyone played Clive Barker’s Undying of late?
I’m intrigued but looks like it hasn’t aged too well?

It's linear and on the unreal1 engine, but it's quite good.

I remember being really impressed with Unreal engine 2 too, when I was in school I'd use screenshots of unreal 2 in my homework lol, mostly because I could easily get high res screenshots for printing

Wow, hard to believe now 😳
Advancement in visual and models tech makes older stuff hard to appreciate sometimes

You know the funny thing about the next Trails game being leaked through EGS, it was the reactions for some people interested in the franchise.
There was a scare about the games being PC-EGS only, and then the realization that only PC got all the games and that it would be harder and harder to play the entire series by 2023 on consoles, with the series being spread over many gens.

Feels good to have a PC library :blobnerd:

Undying is as good now as it was back then imo. Not very good then, but it has its moments and overall charm. Just wish it played better. Despite some polished in engine cut scenes and assets I didn't think it was that impressive though, it had some crude designs, effects and garish colors as well and we had games like Halo, Max Payne, Anachronox, Tribes 2, Aliens vs Predator 2 and Return to Castle Wolfenstein in the same year (still, mostly much later), Descent 3, Freeapace 1 & 2, Freelancer and the Battlezone games the years before... Also Deus Ex (not for impressive graphics but story in fps look alike format I guess). So yeah, it looked good but not enough to overlook issues that were apparent even then or have your jaw drop.
Thought this was a game and got excited :( still neat though.
Wait so... It is a game? i'm confused.

As a fan of the Trails games, and an avid PC gamers, I still really like the fact that NISA is bringing these games to consoles as well, though. More people should be able to experience them easily (without having to buy something from Japanese online stores or really weird Chinese ones) and I hope NISA keeps releasing newer games consistently.

Oh but it's not the new ones that is a problem (why wouldn't they put them on everything to begin with?), but the old games.
It's one giant story to follow, and good luck putting your hands on the first 3 games if you're a console player. You play on Switch, what do you do? Well, not much, and that's the problem :face-with-cold-sweat:
It's even more stupid if you're on Playstation, where the first two games were released multiple times. But you can't play them on your PS5. And the third game didn't receive a western release on PS platforms anyway.

When there's talks of backward compatibility, it goes beyond playing that one game you liked 20 years ago.
Trails is definitely the best example of that.

So I played NMS again last night and I had a complete blast. It's feels like Deep Rock Galactic and Subnautica's sense of wonder all wrapped together into the corpse of a space sim because the flying certainly feels like it's insulting my ancestors (and to be fair, they deserve it, abusive pricks).

I really, really like how much it feels like being a Star Trek away team on LSD. The writing itself is surprisingly good and nuanced. Of course, I do know that at some point I'll see through the repetition and the magic of the unknown will be dispelled by the cruel and bitter knowledge of what's to be expected and not but for now, well, I had a mighty good time. Not bad for that price.

Ah that vid is positive compared to the other 🤔
Maybe should just spend the £1 and see for myself then?

I hope NISA can work on porting the Sky games to Switch and consoles too. Can't be much harder than having to port the Crossbell games. The most annoying thing would be to negotiate the rights for the scripts from XSeed, but at the same time, I also don't see XSeed say no to a decent licensing offer.

what are some great strategy games from the last 2-3 years to pick up during the sale? I'm open to most types of strategy games except for things that play like a reskinned excel document.
They are older than 3 years but Endless Legend and Endless Space 2 are good strategg games if you still did not played them already.

What I don't really understand is why the Investor Day PDF (https://www.sony.com/en/SonyInfo/IR/library/presen/irday/pdf/2021/GNS_E.pdf) mentions Uncharted 4 right after Days Gone. They could have just put God of War instead if it's actually next.
its document for investors .... so its not really about timeline of ports but rather to showcase the caliber of IPs thats planned to go thsi route ... given the implications mentioned in the same documents (aka the 250% ROI on HZD and significant rise in new markets like China, Russia, Idnia )

Right. But then God of War's commercial potential on PC is at least on par with Uncharted. A GoW logo could have very well featured I suppose, especially if it's right next in line after Days Gone.

Ghost of Tsushima PC and the UC 1-4 collection could be next year. God of War PC this fall ? I'm fine with this.

you were hardly greatly selling it yourself 🤣
At this point, You've probably spent more time thinking about Undying than it would take you to buy it, install it and finish it! :D
Get it for £1, make a coffee and get some biscuits, play the game and when you get fed up throw cheats on and breeze through it.

Ghost of Tsushima PC
According a recent rumor, Ghost of Tsushima is getting a DLC like Miles to Spiderman so I doubt it will be released on PC soon. I honestly expect it to be one of the last few ports among all the PS4 big games.

On the other hand, I am convinced that God of War is releasing this year due to the sequel coming next year on PS5. Uncharted 4 should be very close, too.

Am on top of Meta HQ shining the Grognard sign into the night sky to call Aaron D.
It's like the batman symbol but it's a beardy old nerd about to school you on the inaccuracies of representation of the Prussian Empire in modern wargaming.

Off the top of my head i'd say the next two are good introductions as they are a little bit more like "Puzzle" games than pure strategy games but not as "puzzly" as Panzer Corps where there tends to be only one "optimal" solution to the maps.

I'd probably choose UC2 over UC1 because of the improvements but both have good reputations.

Strategy/Tactics from Zachtronics

Then there's the legendary Total War series including Warhammer... but these can have the problem of which DLC Faction do you want to get etc.

The Endless Space series is good, games by Slytherine/Matrix range from lightweight to crazy depth.

These are Strategic games with Tactical battles though. Proper strategy games will seem like pushing counters around a map because that's what they are.

It'd probably be a good idea to look through Aaron D's posts in this thread as there will be tons of recommendations in their posts and conversations with them.

Well the PC version could simply be missing that DLC but it would make sense to release GoT next year on PC with all the content released.

Bloodborne will release this year on PS5, later on PC so I can't be next after Days Gone either.

Yeah, that leaves us with God of War for 2021. Or perhaps Dreams who knows (not interested at all in this one).
There was a mention of some sort of Spider-Man PC port as well, I wonder if that will end up being true.

Yeah, Queen mentioned Spiderman and Last of US on PC, too. Dream PC port would be great for the game as the concept fits PC so much more than on console.

Anyway, I am most interested in playing God of War, so please come to PC soon:longswordblob:

let's suppose I wanna do something crazy and get something different than a 27'' gaming monitor...

...what's a good 49'' gaming monitor?
Start here i suppose then go to the usual tech review sites and channels you like.

but you're probably looking at something like this:

49" is a bit mental and will be expensive and 49" screens will show defects more easily than smaller screens.
I couldn't say if you are better off looking for a TV at that size either, sorry.
