For those that are familiar with Ghost in the Shell. There is the 1995 film and then there is the 2004 film. If I watched the 1995 film would I be able to get a general idea of what happens in the 2004 film or would I need to know a lot of other stuff in addition to that. I'm going to watch the 2004 film in theaters this coming Thursday and I got a general idea of what was happening in the 1995 film.

I preferred the sac series myself, felt it showed more of the world and characters than just spectacle. I think the two seasons were adapted to 2 feature films.

Is it not the other way around? I know they are based of the manga, but I wasn't sure If the movies only covered a few volumes of the manga and then the other anime series expanded on top of that.

You should be good with watching the 1995 movie. The SAC TV show is a different continuity. But it's also really good, so you should get to it, eventually.

From what I remember, the two movies are closest to the manga and both directed by Mamoru Oshii (also check out the Patlabor movies if you like his stuff).

The 2 TV series use the lore, world building and characters to create something new. Personally I think the TV series is the best of the three. But it has more room to breath and develop concepts that the manga and movies could only touch on.

As an aside, I still miss Masamune Shirow as a creator of manga. He has such a great style, was at the forefront of digital arts and just so creative. He still does some great pieces of any but there is a lot of horniness to wade through to find it. Seriously, don’t do a search, very NSFW.

I think the internet is slowly getting to me. I used to be much more calm and patient even when talking with obvious trolls but lately I've noticed that my fuse has become shorter. I don't like it but I am not sure what to do about it.
This may sound obvious, but take a step back, go offline, don't visit pages that make you irate

I stopped using pages that were full of trolls and my mental health improved.

If you catch yourself visiting them automatically, do something else - for example, play a round of Solitaire or whatever you enjoy.

Takes a while to disconnect and switch off this urge to get into discussions, but its worth it.

I know what you're talking about. It may not help but I find great joy in shutting those individuals up using facts they can't deny or juggle around (like the usual "not many people use Steam features" which we know it's bullshit but we also have no way to actually prove it's bullshit)
The next time someone says the EGS is just another launcher simply post "then why do you need an external program to convert your KH EGS save files into Steam ones?" and dont forget to include this link too. The only way to stop bad actors is to play their same game
My personal favorite is listing all the games that don't release on the EGS. This list is truly never ending and for some reason this makes them disappear instantly. I guess when you have actual proof the vast majority of publishers and developers ignore the EGS it gets harder to push the usual "your arguments don't matter" or "why don't you make an account it takes 5 minutes"

I've stopped engaging with posts I disagree with a long, long time ago. Why bother?
Shrug and move on. You have better things to do with your time and energy.
Valve doesn't need you to defend Steam (just to use the above example).
Well the thing is, I enjoy disagreement. I enjoy debate and the challenge of one's own opinions and beliefs. I participate in discussions because I really like reading well thought out, well presented opinions even if they are completely different than my own. My problem is that most of the internet doesn't seem to feel the same, most people would rather drop a shitty joke or snarky remark than put a bit of effort into their posts. I used to feel that digging through those meaningless posts to find the few interesting ones was worth it but now, I don't,know I feel like the amount of crap is overwhelming me.

(this has nothing to do with Metacouncil by the way, I am just venting my frustration here).

My post about Hellblade 2?
No he is referring to a different discussion a few posts earlier.

FWIW, I think you're one of the nicest and best members on Resetera (And here obviously)

It always makes me laugh when you're kindly disagreeing or just discussing something with somebody and they're needlessly aggressive or dickish toward you. It's made my ignore list a lot larger.

Im running Hellblade 2 on highest settings with my 8 year old PC and it is very much playable. Expecting myself to build a new PC with the 508o or 5090.

The game itself is...okay so far. Feel like the first game was better in every way though.

There's a lot of 4090 owners around these enthusiast boards, so I felt the need to shout out my RTX 2070. You're still enough for me, honey.

I did have to capitulate with my CPU though. Upgrading from a 3rd Gen i7 to a 12th Gen i3 more than doubled my framerate in Cyberpunk 2077. Even with "next-gen" finally arriving, kind of, my 2070 has been plenty for my standards. Even games I thought might give my system a lot of trouble, like Remnant 2, ran surprisingly well. That Ultra, High and Medium settings in game effects often look interchangeable in motion, when you're not scrutinizing the image at a stand-still, helps keep my system "alive and well". DLSS really extended the life of my card too, so I'm extra glad I didn't stay on my GTX 970.

At the time, upgrading to a 2070 was "stupid" because the 200o series was considered overpriced. I only did it because I felt a whim to upgrade from 1080p to 1440p. Grabbed a better card to drive that resolution bump. That bump also extended the life of my old CPU by moving more responsibility to the GPU. Then, the pandemic price increases and Nvidia's price gouging happened.

The moral of the story is that sometimes your poor decisions turn out to be pretty good ones because the world became worse in the meantime. Look, I didn't say it was a happy moral.

I want to add something to the above post
The Ashes series is one of the best GZDoom total conversions. They're basically completely original games (all enemies, weapons, sprites, music, maps and textures are new) all developed and released for free. The first title Ashes 2063 was already great on its own but the sequel Ashes Afterglow really shows just how much you can do with GZDoom. Hexen style hub maps to make the game open world, Strife dialogue system to have NPCs and even actual quests, and multiple endings depending on what you do. The above Hard Reset is a standalone expansion to Afterglow, think Hexen to Deathlings of the Dark Citadel
You really have no idea how incredible these "mods" (and I use the quotation marks because the term mod honestly feels restrictive in this case) are until you try them. There is even a fully standalone version (no Doom IWADs required) with all released episodes in a single download

How do the card idler apps work? How do they play a game without it?

I just want to idle one but I can't get it to just do one even if option is enabled so I can do it manually right - if so how?

One thing I had mentioned about Fallout 76 in my previous post is that it has quite a friendly and helpful community. If you're a new or low level player and you happen to run across a higher level player they will probably stop to help you out on whatever quest you're doing or maybe they'll just drop a bunch of useful items like stimpacks and stuff. If you have a vendor in your camp it's possible a player will come by, buy out your entire shop and then drop all the items they bought right in front of you so that you can pick them up and put them back on sale (so basically just donating caps to you). I remember when I was around level 35 or so a player had a dropped a bunch of stuff for me including a level 50 weapon which I had stashed away because I couldn't use it yet. When I reached level 50 and took it out I realized that it was actually a very rare and powerful weapon and it lasted me a long time before I replaced it. More often than not you experience kindness and generosity and you feel compelled to pay it forward if you can.

One of the things about the game is that if you open the map you can see the live location of every player in the server represented as a yellow dot. Once in a while I open the map and see someone in Vault 76. That is the starting location of the game where you do a short tutorial before you step out into the game world. If I see someone in 76 I try to fast travel there so that I can 'welcome' them to the game and drop some goodies for them. One of the things I keep around to give away are power armor frames. Now, those aren't the same as power armor because you cannot equip those before level 25, but the frame itself offers some decent benefits to a new players including increasing their strength stat (which increases their carry weight) and nullifying fall damage completely. A few days ago I happened to notice someone was inside 76 and headed there with a couple of power armor frames.

Now this game does not have text chat (unless you install a mod) and in my experience, nearly nobody uses proximity voice chat either. So communication with others is extremely limited and only occurs through the use of a handful of emotes. Now imagine you're a new player to the game and you step out of the vault for the first time and you see this crazy looking person spamming emotes towards you. Odds are you'll just ignore that person and go on your way or maybe you try and communicate back but you have no idea how to do emotes because you've only been playing the game for 20 minutes. So both of you stand around awkwardly for 30 seconds and then you go on your way. This is what happens most of the time.

So it is nice when, once in a while, a new player actually understands what you are there to do.

I dropped a bunch of fusion cores for the person which would let them use the frame for a while until they hopefully figure out how to get more. Like I said, this whole endeavor doesn't usually work out the way you hope it will so when it does it feels nice.

I know a lot of people believe Fallout should be a single player game and that multiplayer in 76 waters down the experience but once in a while multiplayer also has some upsides.

Waltzing through Elden Ring second playthrough getting close to the DLC now.
I have technically beaten the requirements (Rahdan and Mohg) and could go in now, but I want to clean up more of the OG bosses before going and getting my ass beat in the DLC. Sounds like its pretty tough in there but my build is basically complete now.

  • MY BOY Mimic Tear +10 -- honestly makes some fights too easy, but its the best ash in the game for a reason. Tische is up there too but for different fights. Haven't gotten her yet.
  • Big ol' hit stick Giant's Crusher +20 -- need more +7 and +8 stones to get to higher levels
  • A good fodder weapon with Blasphemous Blade +10 -- that heal from trash kills really helps
  • And a spikey big Hammer in Great Stars which I think like +19 or so. Again need more +7 stones and up.

Most of the bosses are down now. Gonna do Fire Giant, the stuff in Faram Azula, then Ashen Capital, then Malenia and then probably hit the DLC. We'll see what the levels look like. I'm ~125 right now, hopefully will be above 150. Seems doable, but the needed runes are getting quite high now.

My current vote for best song in the game is Mohg's track. So awesome. Give it a listen.

I am somewhere around 90% through Kingdom Hearts Final Mix and it is ok game. I can't judge it by today's standards so clunky gameplay doesn't bother me that much. Biggest issue I have is with camera, in some cases it's just awful (those cases are mostly some boss battles). Story is simple but serviceable, characters are charming but voice acting can be stiff. Level design is simple but it is similar to games from that period. Game works great on Deck and doesn't use that much battery so it kinda is perfect Deck game.

I was tempted to pick up a copy of Uncharted trilogy for PS4 but my gut feeling told me that I should keep waiting for the PC ports. Sorry for not becoming a sacrifice for the PC community. :face-with-stuck-out-tongue-and-winking-eye:
I think that I got Remasters for PS4 for like 20-25$ around the launch XD it was worth it.

Yes if we ignore lack of gift cards, widely available keys, fee transfers to the customers of they are bigger than certain amount...
that's the ex-era mod that jumped in the PC thread back then when people were talking about the epic client scraping data from steam saying it was a nothingburger/doing damage control for epic

Yeah I’m playing KH1 for the first time since the PS2 days and man the gameplay itself can be so bad. Bad camera, sections with 3D movement that are even worse (Little Mermaid I’m looking at you), the slow unlock of abilities that makes combat a little better, enemies able to quickly able to drain heath if you don’t have the air shield spell up, etc.
Also in some areas it’s just not clear where you need to go so you just kinda got to walk to all available rooms until you trigger the next story sequence.

What's the context of Rami's post? I'm kind of sick and tired of him, he's right about a lot of stuff but he's a jerk in so many others... The victimhood complex and speech grew stale 5 years ago and it simply doesn't stop, it seems he'll never be happy unless platforms actively go out of their way to guarantee (his) game's success. It's almost like he feels he's owed something by simply existing...

It's a bit pointless to speculate. Kinda wish people stopped posting links to Twitter, it's less than useless. If you can, make screenshots showing enough of the context to understand what's going on. Just one level of replies might not be enough, as seen here. I don't understand why so many people linger on that shitty platform, but please don't pose links to the place expecting me to register there to understand what I'm supposed to be reading

This discussion has gotten extremely old. You can keep crying about the unfair 30% Steam cut as long as you want, but nothing will change. The EGS failed, this is a fact (just look at how many games release there in these recent months, hint the number is very small). Steam won, this is a fact (just look at how many games do come out on Steam. Ubisoft can no longer ignore it and uPlay was the last holdout). Steam users at large think Valve earns that cut because of all the features and because they enjoy them for free, this is a fact (because they keep using Steam, and because everytime some random dev says the cut is unfair they will always mock him)
You know what's also a fact? 12% is too little to run a succesfull pc store, just ask the devs that got laid out because of Timmy's ego. And here's anothe fact: 88% of 100 is much smaller than 70% of 10000. You need proof? The developers that are still alive (because some couldn't survive the Epic exclusive, but how weird this is never talked by gaming journalism) are ignoring the EGS deals and went back to Steam day one. Like Flintlock (previous game: Ashen, EGS exclusive. Next game Steam day 1), or Square Enix (long series of EGS exclusives, but lately all of their games are Steam exclusive)

Facts are fun right?

as far as that particular tweet from Rami goes I clicked on it and even that didn't help, it's just a tweet and the original doesn't actually have any quote or anything to add more context
