10+ hours in and I must admit that SMT V feels aggressively mediocre and boring.
It evokes me of what I imagine the last Sonic must feel like. Hey, we got a big new shiny map, let’s cover it with shit and collectible and… voila !

After being torn about 4 and hating 4.5, it kills me to say that they weren’t that bad.

Mort's lttp We Happy Few review this week coincided nicely with the current -75% Steam sale. I opted for the $20 Deluxe Edition as both Mort and user reviews suggested the 3 DLC campaigns were well worth it.

I've always been interested in WHF as the setting and art direction looked ace. But it feels like there was mixed consensus in the early days of the game's release. I guess it's matured a lot since and people enjoy it more today. Not perfect or anything but worth it for interested parties.

After some hours I'm finding myself super engaged. One of my biggest takeaways is how much the experience reminds me of the Dishonored series. Something about the overall aesthetic, game-engine feel, stealth gameplay loops coupled with complex level designs really harken to Dishonored in my mind. That and the game being years old mean that it runs like an absolute dream on modern hardware.

Great stuff overall and I'm really digging this one's style and vibe.

What is Nintendo's definition of Fun?

There was something about how instead of focusing on graphics they would focus on their games being fun, but what does that mean?

Ask Nintendo if Nintendo as some singular entity said it? Probably PR bs as defense against other bs anyway, their bigger games tend to excel in both gameplay and graphics, per given spec. Give Odyssey a resolution bump (or just play it portable) and it doesn't really look out of place next to Ratchet & Clank or Astro Bot despite the gulf in power between a portable about to retire in favor of its overdue successor and a console just starting to find its pace in a new generation :shrugblob:

So are LRG going down the Nightdive Studios road?

Interested in Fear Effect, but I remember playing Fighting Force but not being a big fan.
Yeah. ModernVintageG, the developer who previously worked at Nightdive went to LRG and started the Carbon Engine project to port old games to modern platforms. I doubt that they are putting the same level of effort into these ports compared with Nightdive, but more modern ports are always welcomed.

Game Maker's Toolkits did a pretty good video on the topic.

I guess I could play Fear Effect again, sure. Would always prefer a native port, but that's just so unlikely with games from that era that didn't already get a port back then.
Emulator wrapper with some niceties is better than nothing I suppose. Still, both Fear Effects are basically built on video files and all those artifacts from PS1 compression are going to look real nasty on a big screen.

Am also interested to see some BGE comparisons between the various versions once the new one is out. Some of the footage from when they accidentally released it a while back looked off, so maybe they have had time to fix it.

I will have to give it a watch. Thank you. In a way I was sort of hoping for an interview or something from some one from Nintendo (and maybe it is a part of the video.

Also even though that video is old I remember recently at GDC Nintendo talking about the importance of play testing a game.

It's just that there is this video and what Gabes definition of Fun is some real intellectual stuff, then again he did question Left 4 Dead and ask why zombie? And then go on to point out that zombie movies actually have a message behind them.

Downunder.

Which route are you starting with? The game will mostly leave you alone until you reached Tokyo Tower. This entry is different from other SMT entries, since the open area has replaced the dungeon crawling. There are a lot of quests and demon haunts conversations that can be had in between demon fusing, so I don't know how you can call it boring. Even riding the Magatsuhi Rails is fun. You don't even have to grind to beat the area boss.

Even in Nocturne, the story didn't really pick up until you got to Shibuya.

Does anyone know any web sites that host high resolution images of game art that can be used for print?

I got a crazy idea that I could decorate my home with gaming posters

I don't know if they're good enough for print but Hall of Framed this community has a lot of artful shots that would make for great posters

Definitely happy with this. More old games to be released the better. I really need to go through and grab some of the nightdive stuff just in case there is a limited time on the licencing deals.

I know Sega and Capcom are pretty good at this stuff but there is some stuff from the Saturn/Dreamcast era that is difficult to get hold off. I would love to give games like Burning Rangers another go, or Power Stone and Canon Spike.

I love how Resetera always hides behind "whataboutism" warnings and bans each time when you call people and mods out for their hypocrisy and double standards.

Anyway I didn't play anything entire week but I did swim a lot and went from 500m in over an hour to 1.5km in an hour in like 20 days :D Too bad that there are achievements for real life accomplishments XD
