It's a shame because fans of the series are obviously very enthusiastic about it, and I really wanted to like it, but there we go.
Eh, I don't like Ryza ^^
And dunno who told you that Ryza is a good starting point for Atelier. At least if you like the old "meme", Ryza is just the fetishization of Atelier.

Sure, it sold 10 times better, but it's like if Dark souls got "dumbed down" to sell to more casual players, destroying what made it such a success in the first place.

Now that we've revealed holo Indie part and can confirm that we miraculously got all 9 talents to agree to lend their voice, the title call at the end of the teaser is actually a bit of a painful memory for me.

Let me explain -

When I sent in the request to staff for each of the talents to say the title, they wanted to make sure it was easy for the talents to record and say the title exactly how it's meant to be said...

So they asked me... to record myself saying it as an example for them...

I sat there for 30 minutes contemplating if I was mentally ready to accept these 9 talents will listen to my CRINGE ASS trying to voice act and say the title the same way y'all heard it

Eventually I manned up and did it, but I feel like I lost a piece of myself that day

I have never felt more embarrassed in my entire life than that moment. My shame died. I'll never live it down it's over for me

Anyway, I wonder if there's another voice in this game not revealed yet

My girlfriend saw me playing Ryza and she said "this looks like a perv game", and to be honest I couldn't really argue there. She's generally quite tolerant of Japanese games I play that have suspect character designs and a bit of a male gaze, so I think my gut instinct that Ryza is off in a way that's just too far was the right one.
To make a simple visual example, older Atelier star cute girls in frilly dresses like Totori:
Or Ayesha
While Ryza is like this

Boycotting never works (like ever), but for my part, I'm never going to give a dime to buy their pieces of shit outdated consoles. Piece of shit fucking company.
Haven't bought a single Nintendo Switch game since 2022, and I ended up selling my Switch. Even if I bought games for it, I barely used the thing outside of dumping personal backups of the games I've bought physically and digitally. That and keeping Hekate and Atmosphere up to date every firmware update was an extreme pain. I just don't see a reason for owning one at this point outside of first-party games. The only games I really bought the system for, Smash Ultimate and Splatoon, have atrocious netcode, so the only way I can play the former is if I play locally.
If Vanilleware doesn't want me to buy the game on PC (and Im not interested in playing it on my PS5 or Switch currently), then so be it.
What I find funny about that situation is that not even NISA has put any of the Vanillaware games they've published on PC, when they went to rerelease them on current platforms, so clearly something's up.
At least if you like the old "meme", Ryza is just the fetishization of Atelier.
You could still argue that there's those properties back when Mel Kishida did character designs for the older Atelier games rather than him just being known as the Blue Reflection guy.

The problem that I have with the male gaze thing being used as a term, is that it dates back to a research paper where they explicitly said they were putting a political use for psycho-analysis (a theory from Sigmund Freud), and it's a practice that has been dismissed in the contemporary field of science and psychology. You could say that the fanservice is embarrassing to you personally, but it's really not that deep outside that. The same vocal people are fine when it comes to that stuff being not hetero-normative (Baldur's Gate 3 for example) nowadays. Personally still find that less embarrassing than sitting through endless cutscenes in a game because the development staff couldn't contextualize information through a gameplay environment.

Reason: Formatting, extra info about Switch jailbreaking, more clarification on the Atelier stuff.

Yea Nioh 2 is a masterpiece. Assuming that leak is real and they usually are... I strongly recommend it if you are on the fence.

The game has so much fun and difficult content in the base game. And a lot more additional content in the DLCs. So much replay value too with all the loot driven inventory, level designs etc.

In terms of Souls Like games its the only one I ever played that I can comfortably say is worthy of being in the same discussion as the FromSoft titles. Its different enough from the Souls games so it will feel like a fresh spinoff in many ways.

The game also solved most of the issues from the first Nioh like enemy variety and no custom main character creator. As a complete package its a tour de force. If you do get it make sure you play it. Don't let a game like that sit in your backlog. And don't give up early on it. There is a difficulty to it but just like Souls games be patient and study boss movesets. Once you get the hang of it...it will become of the best action games you ever play. Also its a 120hz game too that is like icing on the cake.

Apparently, tomorrow is the day that Ghost of Tsushima should get announced (it probably won't) and the GR2 rumors are also great. But this whole yuzu debacle really bummed me out. Emulation for me is one of the cornerstones of PC gaming

Virtua Fighter rumors:

More:
・Daishi Odashima is involved in this project.
・RGG Studio assisted with development.
・The main concept is Battle Universe. It is an open space where you can spectate fights.
・Development began in 2021, but early ideas for this title go back to almost ten years ago.

It is a reboot title with the goal of making Virtua Fighter a popular series worldwide, but it is also Virtua Fighter 6. This is the sequel to Virtua Fighter 5. The development team has carefully improved and implemented new fighting techniques inspired by other games.

Q: Wait wait, your telling us that
1: Soul calibur 5 director is involved
2: RGG STUdios of Yakuza/like dragon is involved (holy shit kiryu and majima can be fighters maybe?)
3: Began in 2021 when VF5 Esports Edtion came out in june!?!

A: Yes. But it is a game in development mostly by Virtua Fighter staff with help from RGG Studio. And almost all Super Game concept titles began development in 2021. I do not know about every fighter but there will be new characters and old characters from VF series.

Q: When you say "all major platforms", do you mean current-gen only (PS5/XSX|S/PC) or last-gen as well (PS4/XB1). Likewise, would this include Switch 2 or not?

A: All major platforms means PC and current generation hardware.

Fellow Meta folk

I am sorry

I have bought a Mac

For general computing and plenty of productivity stuff, they’re the best computers out there.

For gaming, obviously pretty lousy, but I think as a casual computer macOS beats Windows for privacy and Linux for commercial app support.

And if you know you need a Mac to use specific software or do a task that’s important to you, you already know it’s the best computer for that task.

In short, welcome to the Mac club! Now christen your new device by streaming your PC games to it or playing Balatro natively.

For a very narrow and specific definition of "productivity stuff". Maybe.

Sorry, I really couldn't let this go uncontested. People here cry about Nintendo and Sony being assholes (rightfully so), but Apple is their equivalent in general computing (which might be worse since general computing is more important than consoles).

I agree about apple being cunts. But what kind of productivity do you mean? At least I find that there is a wide spectrum of productivity possible on Macs.

I’m feeling more and more miserable about gaming. Obviously there is a lot to unpack and part of it is plain old nostalgia and your classic longing for youth.
But Internet is now miserable. Big forums are sad husks driven by hype. Platform waring makes me sad. And the cherry on top, emulation is in relative danger, the last place where you can experience games that are not obviously terrified to be played and don’t drown the player under verbosity or a gigantic emptiness.

Fuck. Everything.

Let's see how it did digitally

It was never going to match the first game, especially since it was so divisive and borderline false advertising. I had to play through it twice to properly appreciate it and even then I can acknowledge it's still a trainwreck. Rebirth is what I had imagined Remake would be from the outset.

Maybe SE will get their heads out of their butts and do a day one multiplatform release for the third game.

I've been relatively offline the past few days trying to avoid FF7 spoilers and I've been enjoying the game a ton. This place is obviously cool, but not having to read nitpicks from keyboard warriors means that negative seeds aren't planted into my head before I come across them.

Well, the one I'm most familiar with is programming, obviously. For that, I really wouldn't call any Mac "the best computers out there". They can't do anything that any other computer can't do (well, except for programming for the closed Apple ecosystem -- but on Windows you can program the Windows ecosystem, and also e.g. all consoles, and on both Linux and Windows you can actually directly target standards like Vulkan), and at any price point you'll get better performance elsewhere. The same goes for 3D content creation, or at least the subset of that I'm familiar with.

I don't contest that "there is a wide spectrum of productivity possible on Macs", just that they are the best computers out there for it. The one point where this might be true is power-efficient laptop hardware for some use cases, but most heavy-duty productivity work in my fields is not done on laptops.

I didn't like Nioh. Some of the bosses were extremely frustrating with the build I was using. I ended up rage quitting because I couldn't beat a certain boss after 30+ tries and didn't feel like starting all over again with a different build.
You approach Nioh like a loot base game, you keep using shinnier and higher level equipment.
That said, I find it surprising that Nioh 2 will be on a bundle considering it has never gone below 20€. But sure I'll take it.

I'm ambivalent about Nioh. Some of the DLC bosses were really frustrating, and I also didn't like the itemization at all.

Overall, I still enjoyed the game, but lots of other non-From Soulslikes deliver more parts of the Souls experience that I actually enjoy. I.e. I greatly prefer the much-less-widely-known Hellpoint to Nioh, and I also think that frequently-maligned Lords of the Fallen (2023) is a much better game.

When people say best, at least for me it's not about being the most powerful or anything. Like a concrete example, since I often play around with Godot both on my MacBook Pro and my Mac mini I get heavy use out of iCloud synch, Sure it can be done easily on any system, but since its just one click in option and it just works makes it pretty cool. Also another thing, also something can be done on any system with apps, but copy pasting between my computers and even my phone is huge, Could I live without things like that? Sure, but I don't wanna lol.

But of course I do want to get a PC one of these days that would only be used to gaming and making games but that would be the only thing I use it for.

I played some ArcadeyMcArcade games just now. Felt pretty good.
...
If my xbox controller USB didn't disconnect in the middle of a race in Outrun 2 Coast to Coast.

Now that's an issue that has been following me for months. In P5R. In Yakuza 0. Everywhere. And I have no idea what to do to fix it. Well sure, buy a new pad.
But is it the pad ? Is it the USB of the case. Is it just the cable. Ugh... If I shell out the small fortune asked for a MS controller and it disconnect I will be 'slightly' annoyed.
After all, my relatively new case is great... until you look at USB connectors. I have two USB connectors. Neither are able to charge the ipad. And only the right one can transfer things to it, the other one isn't recognized. WTH.

Bah, that's another mystery, my controller issues are most probably just the USB connector in the pad being tired.

Fuu... what is it, 50 euros, right ?

Ok so what would be a good starting point for Atelier that I can play with my door open without worrying of what my family thinks I'm playing, or with my door closed without worrying of what my family thinks I'm doing?

Speaking personally (and admittedly from memory) I see Ryza and Sophie both brought up as good entry points for the series (I’ve got both firmly in my backlog :anguished-face:)

Mmh, imho Kyougar is forgetting that Rorona has some risqué elements, too. Though very rare, to be fair.
You've still got a tentacle cg and some formula ingredient requiring milking some peculiar animal.

That being said, and without having played Riza (who got time for that ?) I can totally imagine the new series being more pervy and yes, indeed, Rorona may be the apex of OldAtelierDarkSoulsOfTimeManagement.
Rorona is excellent anyways. People should play it. Great cast of characters.

Depends on how MANLY you are.
Are you manly enough to be seen with Barbie dolls?
If yes, then the earlier Ateliers are no problems. It is basically 75% cute girls in frilly dresses cooking stuff.

Ayesha and Eschatology are my favorites.

My advice would be to try and change the way you look at gaming. I can understand how being online too much can shape one's perspective but I honestly feel that it is a great time to be a gamer, maybe the best it has ever been. So the internet is miserable, who cares? Seriously, who fucking cares? Why are you letting dumb people online affect you instead of laughing at them? As for Nintendo, the danger they pose to emulation is nothing more than a wet fart.

I get where he's coming from as an executive as he wants recurring income, but the F2P and mobile market is just as volatile as the AAA space. You've got your live service kings with Roblox, Fortnite, Call of Duty etc and everyone else fights for scraps. He should already know that due to how Multiversus played out.
