Wow, the contrast in Sekiro is so low it looks like I'm playing on a TN panel from 15 years ago. I used ReShade to increase to contrast from TN-grade to mediocre-IPS grade, as Kami-sama intended. The better contrast is making the game more playable
Seems that's was the problem with me too. Can you share your reshade settings?

First step is to turn off HDR in the display options. It's on by default. If turning that off alone makes it look good enough then you could stop there.

I also have brightness set all the way up to 10. I have an IPS LCD SDR monitor.

I have standard effects and Sweetfx by CeeJay.dk installed via Reshade.

Here's the ReShade. I apologize if my taste is terrible or our monitor environments are so different that my settings are useless :)

Code:
Techniques=ContrastAdaptiveSharpen@CAS.fx,Curves@Curves.fx,LiftGammaGain@LiftGammaGain.fx,LumaSharpen@LumaSharpen.fx
TechniqueSorting=AdvancedCRT@CRT.fx,After@Splitscreen.fx,ContrastAdaptiveSharpen@CAS.fx,ASCII@ASCII.fx,Before@Splitscreen.fx,Border@Border.fx,CA@ChromaticAberration.fx,Cartoon@Cartoon.fx,ColorMatrix@ColorMatrix.fx,Curves@Curves.fx,Daltonize@Daltonize.fx,Deband@Deband.fx,DisplayDepth@DisplayDepth.fx,DPX@DPX.fx,FilmGrain@FilmGrain.fx,FXAA@FXAA.fx,HDR@FakeHDR.fx,Layer@Layer.fx,Levels@Levels.fx,LiftGammaGain@LiftGammaGain.fx,LumaSharpen@LumaSharpen.fx,LUT@LUT.fx,Monochrome@Monochrome.fx,Nostalgia@Nostalgia.fx,SMAA@SMAA.fx,Technicolor@Technicolor.fx,Technicolor2@Technicolor2.fx,Tint@Sepia.fx,Tonemap@Tonemap.fx,UIMask_Top@UIMask.fx,UIMask_Bottom@UIMask.fx,Vibrance@Vibrance.fx,Vignette@Vignette.fx

[CAS.fx]
Contrast=0.163000
Sharpening=0.413000

[Curves.fx]
Contrast=0.452000
Formula=4
Mode=2

[LiftGammaGain.fx]
RGB_Gain=1.133006,1.133006,1.133006
RGB_Gamma=1.072003,1.072003,1.072003
RGB_Lift=1.000000,1.000000,1.000000

[LumaSharpen.fx]
offset_bias=1.000000
pattern=1
sharp_clamp=0.035000
sharp_strength=1.424000
show_sharpen=0
If you prefer a softer image, turn off CAS and/or Luma Sharpen.

EDIT: Also this framerate unlocker worked well. Just download the DLL, put it next to sekiro.exe. Launch the game, switch to windowed mode. Restart the game. The mod will have made a config file called SekiroFpsUnlockAndMore.xml. Edit that file to enable borderless windowed mode and a FPS cap if you like.

Watched my favorite French streamer play two hours of Expedition 33 and I’m very non plussed. I guess the game looks good enough and the wold is truly interesting, combat is competent too… but for the love of god, the level design was a rotten corridor the whole way through.
Now maybe it’s just the ‘tutorial zone’ effect, but it sure didn’t do anything for me. Other than help me get to sleep.

FEAR UI is fixed now for high res playthrough.

From this:

To this:
It's always a good day when a classic gets a UI fix.

I remember finding Deus Ex Human Revolution unplayable at 4K due to the UI scaling basically capping at 720p. Would've needed binoculars to read anything, and that's also ignoring the fact that other things like sniper scopes also scaled with the UI, so it was like looking through a peep hole.

Now I have only and still only played Alan Wake 2 with the new PC, but it's the most beautiful game I have so far played and it runs butter smooth with everything cranked up.

Look at this shit:

They might be more compressed/worse looking with the upload, took them with Nvidia Overlay.

First game I also play with ray tracing (well, path tracing since AW2 supports it).

Look so much better compared to my PS5.

Ok so it's that part of the year where I go down the Warhammer 40k rabbit hole for a couple of weeks, playing everything and watching everything - since Astartes II isn't out till 2026, anyone recommend anything else? I've probably watched it but ye lol...

Do the core mechanics stay fresh longer than the original?
Graphics look good, but don't make or break a game for me.

I found switching between Alan and Saga keeps it pretty fresh.

Also at baseline it plays better than the first, which gets old really quick.

Alan Wake was a good game that hasn’t aged as well as I’d hoped. Alan Wake II is an all-time great.

To clarify, I bought the deluxe edition on EGS on sale last year. It's the only game i've bought on EGS last year simply because Alan Wake 1 has a special place in my heart and life.

And yes, the launcher is still crap and barebones and the cheevos system there is very annoying and takes almost half the screen when you get a cheevo pop-up.

Lossless Scaling is getting better with each update. Tested it by walking around the hub area in FFXVI. The base FPS goes up and down (my rig is old) but the framerate after generation does not fluctuate at all. There is a slight increase in input lag but I am totally fine with it.

Really need to get back to the game soon.

If you haven’t already, get a month of Warhammer +. Worth it for Angels of Death.

Spring Steam sale or whatever it's called this week. Hoping for a sale on Avowed (or maybe it's too soon, even 10% off), Eternal Strands, Hellblade 2, Stalker 2 at least.

Just bought Tom Clancy's Breakpoint and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.

Finally got around to beating this. I started it years ago around 2018 but after getting to lvl 10 or so I quit by being overwhelmed by the giant endless map with icons and quests everywhere. Picking it up again now I got to the end. Finished this at lvl 38 with about 50hrs of playing.

I have to say this game was very good. Almost dethroned Black Flag as the best AssCreed for me.

Aya and Bayek were great but the ending felt a bit disjointed and rushed. Some of the ship battles in the middle/end of the game felt so out of place and pointless. I enjoyed the story but the side quests were definitely the best part of the game. There was many of them and many I still didn't get too. But what prevented this from being the GOAT entry for me was how stingy the exp system was. And how pointless the weapons system was too. I obtained a gold weapon at lvl 23 and never changed it again because it shredded everything. I just upgraded it a few times and yea there was not point in using anything else. I don't mind it that much tbh because the game is designed kinda of like an old school jrpg where you just need to overlevel a few levels above the recommended main story missions and the game gets drastically easier. And that is fine but yea felt like playing Borderlands sometimes as there is so much useless junk in the gear menu.

I think if they were a bit more generous with the exp and gave maybe 150% of what each quest alotted it would have been even better paced. Also so many main story quests and side quests string you along with extra steps to complete before finally giving you the exp. That entire process felt so tedious and frustrating at times. They could have definitely cut some fat to make this a better game.

And yea the game is stunning. Beautiful from start to finsh. Cyrene, Alexandria and Memphis were incredible and probably the best cities they've done. The Pyramids were all great too but felt like kinda lacking with stuff to do with them other than a few quests that intertwined between them with some ability points. It was fun but it is what it is.

It kind of felt good playing an AAA game from this 2017/2018 era where it looks so good and runs just fine off my old HDD and is only 40gb in size. Its a nice blast from the recent past compared to some of the modern day experiences.

I think the game is solid 9 out of 10. I would recommend it to anyone who loves stealth games with the Ubi formula. There are so many great locations/fortresses to infiltrate in this. It felt like culmination of all the previous AssCreed games formed into this one but giant map in between.

Gonna take a little break and resume my Odyssey playthrough. I'm in similar situation with that game as I played it for a bit in starting island and then quit. But I heard so many good things about it and improvements over Origins so I am excited to see it to the end as well.

Ok my last impressions on Death Stranding were:

Also, I'm very lttp on this but I'm playing Death Stranding DC (PS5) right now and for a game that people seem to either love or hate I am ironically rather mixed on as I see why people like this game but also definitely why people hate it.
I'm about 8hrs in and still on Chapter 2 and I'm aware people say to wait until Chapter 3 so I'm reserving full judgment until then.

But right now if I had to give it a grade I'd say 7/10?
The intrigue of the story and the world-building is what's carrying me mostly right now, but that's kinda concerning in of itself as many wouldn't say that's one of the game's strengths, so I feel like I'm slightly waiting for the other shoe to drop in that regard.
The traversal stuff is the meat and potatoes of the game obviously and it's fine I don’t honestly have much to say about it (at least I went in knowing that unlike many seemed to on launch) but I can already see this getting repetitive or played out long before the end, that's my fear. Let's just see what Chapter 3 brings.
Besides that the game is surprisingly menu heavy and confusingly so too.

PS: Still can't help but be curious what DS2 will bring though, knowing Kojima it'll be something completely different again and not like DS1.
Since then, once I found myself slowly walking down a gently sloping hill after being knackered from traversing a BT infested rocky valley, while Asylum for the Feeling is playing, it clicked...

I can see why people say to give it to chapter 3, and yeah Death Stranding has since been pretty f**king great.

The traversal is more challenging and the biomes more interesting, plus the music is great (genuinely tempted to buy the CD) and the atmosphere is just such a vibe

I'm on chapter 12 now so very nearly at the end, and I'll be there day 1 for DS2.
I splurged in the visual novel fest and bought 3 games from my wishlist (Umineko question and answer arcs, and Fatal Twelve).
be prepared for Peak

Man these Suikoden remasters are hitting for me.

I was always the target audience, of course. But they preserved the pixel sprites that have so much life in them compared to some modern pixel art, and then that music! It just transports me back to my childhood playing these games.

Honestly the addition of diagonal movement and run all the time makes a way bigger QoL than it sounds from saying that lol. It is kind of hilarious they added difficulty options (the game was never hard), but even on hard I don't find it very challenging. The first game is super exploitable in one of its gambling mini games to max out your money easily. After which even the stronger monsters and bosses melt from your upgraded weapons and max armor. Sometimes playing a game that isn't hard can be fun though.

Almost done with Suikoden 1, then onto S2. Dare I go for the famous color flashback scene by grinding 108 battles near the start? Never done that before.

Kojima's trailer game still best in the business.

Game somehow looks even more ridiculous than the first wtf.

Also...

A wild Solid Snake appears out of nowhere lol

That's most likely just a younger version of Clifford, but of course the Snake allusion is deliberate

The skull imagery isn't exactly subtle here lol. I wonder if Kojima has strong feelings about Konami doing stuff with MGS again.
Hopefully they patch things up in the future.

I wanna see him make one more MGS game before his eventual retirement.

Let Konami spend the next 10 years remaking old games and then have Kojima make one last big entry.
