Are they or are they not pulling RL from Steam?
They've all but confirmed that they will, but after it gets released on EGS I believe, which is estimated to be towards the end of the year. But never rule out anything as far as Epic is concerned. They've already shown that nothing is beneath them in this "store war",

Yeah, combat is vastly different. I was talking about the story telling, linear exploration, and the dynamic duo focus.
Yeah, those do indeed remind me of The Last of Us and they were the parts that I enjoyed.

Anyway, I'm really hoping that A Plague Tale will turn out great!

Oh hey I'm a full MetaMember now. Time to get a new tag...
congratulations :p and nice new tag, haha

tfw you are playing games and accidentaly learn about capitalism flaws and privilege
i know, right? this is just too good, haha

This also feels relevant now. Here's the promised gallery of Gearbox/Borderlands/Pitchford burns from the old site.

oh my god, bus ... this is PURE GOLD!!!

mostly VNs, shmups and SRPGs
see - this is your biggest mistake right here! ;)

I installed it last week and fired it up just to listen to the intro theme. Also because it's a masterpiece and I need to replay it yet again soon :steam_pig_grinning:
you're welcome :D

See, that's the kind of Japanese weirdness we can all get behind. Wholesome fun vs perverted anime filth corrupting us all.
hear, hear

This fancy new game Steam redistributable something, I've been waiting patiently for it to disappear from library and let's say after 2 weeks (?) about time to get officially triggered.
i believe you can hide it, just like any other game

that sounds like pretty great patch for Settlers-like with cute robots

Update out
But what's changed in Mormo's Curse? While the short answer is "most of it", here are a few of the more obvious things to expect.

Revamped Structure
The game structure has been totally gutted, and the divisive permadeath feature has been removed. You will still fail a story if you die while climbing Mormo's Palace at the end, or if you play in Hero Mode, but otherwise, if you fall, you will collapse and wake up in your house having dropped some cash and fragments. The game is now more forgiving and easier to enjoy.

The end game has been drastically improved, with much more to do, and more variation in the game's rules. For example, when you defeat Mormo, in the next story she will cast one of her curses on you, changing the rules of the world for that story. (The Time Curse that was cast in the Timeless Update remains as one of those curses).

New Areas & Improved Overworld
The Overworld has been drastically overhauled, to be denser, more engaging, and more focused. We've also added four unique areas with their own specific features, two of which are chosen for each story.

New Toys, Enemies & Stickers
The new areas bring bespoke enemies, and dedicated shops which sell new Stickers with amazing abilities and unique Toys of Legend (such as the Axe, the Book of the Dead, the Vampire Ring and many more). We've also added a number of support items to the player inventory, such as the Inflatable Decoys, Mines and Kick Me Signs.

Bug-Fixes and General Improvements
Most of the game has been looked at and smoothed over, including room layouts, item carry over at the end of a story, all menus and user interface, the integration of the Air Kazoo map into the main map, memory management, NPC dialogue and localisation and more.

Port to GameMaker Studio 2
The previous version of the game was running in GameMaker Studio 1.4, which was deprecated by YoYo Games last summer. The move to GMS2 means many technical improvements. For Windows players that means no more DirectX 9, improving compatibility across the board, including for many integrated GPUs. Ubuntu support is now at 18.04, with audio and gamepad issues fixed. There's also much-improved performance, and, crucially, YYG will now be able to offer support for any engine-based issues we come across.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These are just a few of the things that we've been busy with, however. The general goal throughout the development of Mormo's Curse was to make it a much better game; one that we are much happier with. We hope you enjoy all of the improvement we've made, and look forward to seeing what you think!

Finished Trüberbrook the other day, sadly have to say that it isn't the German Thimbleweed Park I had hoped for. Starts off well enough but eventually stumbles and is too short with barely 5hrs, a result of too few places to go, pretty simple puzzles and no real inventory. You pick something up and when clicking on something else it gives you the option to us an item from the inventory. But only where it makes sense so yeah, too easy. Then there's one extremely egregious instance of 'why can't I use this to get to that but instead have to built another contraption', bad design. And the story is told in a way that it's hard to get into, same for some of the characters, they tell you their story, are part of one puzzle and then become irrelevant. There's actually a whole place that can still be visited later but becomes completely empty and its whole mini-story could've been cut. And while some locations are impressive visually, others are very bland. Also the end is very abrupt, I think that 1-2hrs more content would've done wonders for the whole thing. Wasn't a fan of Thimbleweeds conclusion either but dunno, it felt like the old adventures where after a while it felt like you knew the world and the people. Trüberbrook didn't quite get there, still I'd recommend it for adventure fans for the good atmosphere and some funny conversations when on sale, not so much for 30€.

Maybe I'm too harsh or should've talked about more positives (German voice actors are excellent, as is the music and none of the puzzles are really illogical), game's not bad but just never comes together 100%. Gotta assume they ran out of time/money which also explains a few small bugs, animation glitches and UI issues. I had fun enough while playing, the moment to moment gameplay is fine, but in the end it's one of those 'could've been better' ones.

If the mood is there then I'm all in. Though I will still wait for a sale.

Finished Anima Gate of Memories. That was a fun little romp. Combat is pretty simplistic and repetitive but I'll give it some slack since the game was clearly on a very tight budget and it doesn't last long enough to overstay its welcome, plus there's a few really interesting boss fights and platforming/exploration segments. The world has some pretty interesting lore and visuals, overall very solid little thing that reminds me a lot of the original Nier.

Now onto the presidesequelgaiden or whatever the fuck The Nameless Chronicles is supposed to be.

Good to see another person of culture here.
I will tout the Miwashiba games with all my heart! Buy them, they are great, interesting and they are relatively short they grab me so i end up playing them through until the end in one or two sittings. Then i start them again for the branches of the story i didn't investigate. If they sound interesting to you then get 'em, they're worth it.

Edit: Dammit, Steam won't let me buy the bundle so i can gift it to peeps. That's some bullsh...

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night finally has a release date: June 18, 2019.

Also, the game was (again) confirmed for a Steam and GOG release (for those worrying about another EGS exclusive) on the newest kickstarter update.

EDIT: Ops, both Ryna and prudis posted about it already.

That's what happens when lashman buys all prominent members of community.
I need muh VN thread though, and if I start one here, it'll most probably go the way of the puzzle game thread. :negative-blob:
Post it and I'll back you up. I'll write a bit of my Ace Attorney overall impressions once I finished with the trilogy. (First time playing)
I'd be interested 👍
I also would be interested in a VN thread here. Obviously we couldn't hope to match Era's activity given the difference in size between membercounts, but... I dunno, have you seen how much interest swirled around VN's here lately?

Sorry I'm not much help for a puzzle game thread, but tbh, that's cuz I just don't play or have any interest in them. :face-with-cold-sweat: My Era ban still has 7 or so days on it, but one friend I wanna try to get over here is also a VN thread regular so...

New Black Mesa blog post is out.

Black Mesa :: May News Update

Bloodstained releasing June 18th (next month!)

Excellent. I hope this is a triumphant return for Iga and his "vanias" lol. I probably won't play it for a long while, but I'll be sure to get Bloodstained day-1 to show my support.

Something for 2020 :nerd-face:
Winter Sale 2020... maybe.
Thanks for beta-testing EGS scrubs. :p

Bloodstained new build looks good, but I’m worried that it might not feel good.

The animations seem to slow the combat down some. Hopefully, they take that into account and keep it tight.

LEGO games are all the same, they have funny stuff in them though and generally are worth it for light gameplay.

Any of them are great for playing co-op with my 5-year-old. And giving a fake controller to my 2-year-old so they feel like they're playing too :blobmorning2:

Telltale Games continues to fade away as Minecraft Story Mode Season 1 + 2 are no longer available on Steam (and Xbox/PS4.) following Game of Thrones being taken down pretty recently as well. Kind of surprised Minecraft went down before GOTG,Batman and Wolf.

I actually enjoyed Minecraft Story Mode Season 2, hated Season 1 though

Finishing Ep5 from Ace Attorney, Rise from the Ashes, yesterday. The case itself was solid after the second day, but man it was too long for it own good. I definitely don't look forward to replaying it anytime soon.
