Played several hours of Call of Cthulhu on Deck yesterday ! Good looking, mainly 60fps, but with occasional / regular moments of full blast fans and a really hot Deck. Oh tiny font warning, too.

Game was really good enough at the time, a nice little evening of very light horror. But then you realize you still have half the chapters still unplayed and, yeah. The game tries several things but always weakly. It's a mix between a walking simulator, an immersive sim, a half-assed RPG and a super bad stealth game. The plot is who fucking cares, the protag is who fucking cares, and the setting, while it has its moment (with the classic isolated mansion for example) is not that Lovecraftian or frightening.
Stealth is shittastic, AI is abysmal, and checkpoints are badly set up.

It's cool, I really liked what I played, it's just not cool enough for me to eagerly wait to continue playing.

i found my mistake

apparently, the program didnt want to simplify it to the 2 500 000 tris that i wanted originally, mostly because there was probably something else selected

i thought originally i had like, 3 000 000 tris because calculations were going fast

no, it looks like i have a small amount of 156.5 MILLION FUCKING TRIS, 52 TIMES THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT ALLOWED FOR HAMMER EDITOR TO DO IT'S THING

Someone promoted this over the last day or so. Thank you.
Its awesome and I love it. Looks like Rimworld but plays a lot different. I don't feel under pressure to murder folks or research things just a nice mellow relaxing discovery kind of game. Its also a murder everyone fun-times experience which I appreciate. :p

Except for the first boss = he one-shot me so fuck him I'll come back later with a much bigger gun.

Due to an exploit with Steam trading, we encourage everyone to not complete any trades at this time.

This is not something that can be used to steal your items without any interaction.

To stay safe, please refrain from trading entirely. We will let you know when we believe it's safe to start trading again.
It seems it only affects TF2 from what I can gather. I don't know which is the loophole and won't search for it and much less propagate the info, I don't think that would be appropiate.

This is just a small PSA for those who are usually involved in Tf2 trading as of current reports.

Hmm, I think you are mistaken, but I’m not 100% myself. Pure IIRC was a very spectacular racer, but traditional. Fuel was maybe more open world but I don’t recall the scope. The only game with full continent I can think of is the one from Ubi.
And you solved the mystery. I thought of FUEL and not Pure. I own Fuel but not Pure.
Fuel, the one with the tornadoes and open world. Haha,

Had satisfactory on in the background while watching the election coverage. I'd just finished my coke recycling into steel ingots and just let it run. I totally underestimated just how many this produces and gunked up two factory locations and a train line with endless steel ingots.

Almost two weeks later I finally got my key for Eiyuden Chronicles: Rising.
The emailed is formed like a reminder to make sure that I didn't miss the key from the previous mail. A mail that I never got...
I put it down real fast as it was evident that they wanted you to repeat the same areas over and over. Not into that, Hope the full game is free of that shit.

update on the room:

it's a bust, but it's a notable bust
the quality of the room was very detailed on some fronts, but not enough on others
do not ask me why, on my gigantic wall, there's a picture of me in 1st grade and only a picture of me and my class in 1st grade

this is mostly what i'm talking about, it's not precise enough, plus i can already see several problems with it (objects with some form of glass (like the monitor or sunglasses) aren't done properly, mirrors reflect objects that confuse the program, some planks aren't that great), and while i could do it again, it would cost me 10 dollars and a lot of patience/time for something that is inferior to what i am about to present:

here's the part where it's not a complete bust; i can reuse this mesh as a general measure for when i do the next iteration of this project;
i will now attempt to recreate the room in S2's Hammer Editor, but unlike previously, this time, I will scan several objects so it can be as allike as possible, which then will include:
  • scanning the plank walls to get that proper model/material for the walls, the same goes for the ground and it's laminate/carpet
  • scanning smaller props (like a controller, rubik's cube) for more detail, but also more intractability (this previous method implied everything was "glued", but by placing the smaller props as individual props in hammer editor, you can pick and throw them around and stuff)
  • easier change of positions, easier to change and manipulate generally compared to the hell that is called 3d modelling for me

We could have some PC news there :

"Game & Network Services SegmentPresident and CEO, Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC
Representative Director and President, Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc.
Jim Ryan"

Not hard announcements but a general direction from which we could gather something.
Hopefully soon, Shahem, hopefully soon.

I want to play the next one already.

True.

"Yoshida also touched briefly on PlayStation's emerging PC business, explaining that the company aims to "provide access to our games to as many users as possible" and it'll be "rolling out" more PlayStation Studios titles onto storefronts like Steam and the Epic Games Store in the future "

Which ones is the question. From the Nvidia leak Ghost of Sushi makes the most sense to announce soon. Demon Souls is likely 2023 along with Returnal and Forbidden West.
In 2022 I could still see Ghost.

And there is also that matter of The Last of Us remake, it won't release on PC this year obviously but it could be announced as coming to PC during their showcase and release next year roughly a year after Uncharted.

probably should say that, now that i'm here more often posting about my photogrammetry adventures, instead of saying "actual norwegian guy", it's probably best to refer to me with my internet discord name of just "adachi", you know, funny detective adachi p4 haha bitches and whores, i did something unspeakable of in 1985

in another episode of adachi's photogrammetry adventures, i've discovered that i have a pizza stand that can be spun around, and now i'll attempt the turntables technique on a small Solid Snake amiibo, with 169 images of him in 3 different angles, where one of the angles are slightly "chaotic", whereas the two others are more controlled

this will be primarily a study of if the turntables method works at all with my current setup, if it's clever to try to mask out everything but the snake amiibo, and see if the chaotic angles disrupt the workflow of the two other angles

updates on this episode will be edited into this post of course

edit: we did it reddit

here's a solid snake amiibo captured with the turntables workflow, with minimal problems (mere white spots that can be fixed, uneven geometry like the bottom, etc), but these were caused by the fact that i had reduced it to 20k tris in order for it to actually work as an in-game prop

People who are buying ZHP or going to buy ZHP, people are reporting that the 16 Dengeki crossover dungeons and characters from the PSP version were cut, and NISA didn't mention it at all pre-release.

Guess I am not buying this game on PC. NISA is also pretty scummy for being silent on the cut.

Who needs more Sony on PC when these two are launching soon?

And we still don't have pre-orders for the CE open yet. It seems like the physical copy will release in the Fall but the game will launch digitally in the Summer.

I hope it's not too hard to get but seeing how it's going to be a Nintendo store exclusive, I'm guessing that I'm going to be out of luck.

Hopefully it will not be too hard to get but it seems that many people are getting the CE, purely based on anecdotal observation from the community. Personally I will only get the normal edition then wait for the inevitable standalone release of the artbook and soundtrack.

Dumb question:

Does anyone remember a Twitter account that was video game clips.

The profile picture was some one in a scout (TF2) profile picture. Did the account get suspended?

and in today's shocking concluding episode of adachi's photogrammetry adventures

i fucking quit, here's a rundown if you want to read

the program and software and everything with it is such a fucking drag dude, i'm done

here's my final fucking thing, a large poliwhirl plushie i had scanned into source 2 after reality capture, it just doesn't FIT IN AT ALL and i'm not a fan of that at all, so i'll have to change up my plans and probably cancel the room recreation plans, though i doubt anyone really cares because at the end of the day, photogrammetry is for losers, and proper 3d modelling, texturing and all of that stuff is the only way to go if you have a soul / aren't a loser

i appreciate the message, but it's just not optimal

as you can see on the image i put alongside it, the texture is very uneven, which can't be fixed due to the texture of the model being made in a way where you can barely see what's going on:

even so, the model itself feels very ehh, like it just doesn't fit in at all, parts of it are connected to each other (like the visible paw with the foot in that image), it's relatively "blurry" compared to the rest of hl:a

i could probably continue with photogrammetry if like, i got the unwrap working, i had extra cash on me (as every "proper" export costs some cash), if i learnt 3d modelling to a point where i can easily fix the models, and that just covers the models themselves; i'd still have to learn how to properly import them into half life alyx with physics and all of that junk, and at this point, i've had enough L's so i think i'll just breathe air and talk about how stupid chess is

edit: i'll probably give it like, 3-5 more tries, in very controlled environments with proper documentation to see if it's really worth it, like:
  • a turntable workflow setup with one main light above the scene (like the one for the snake amiibo)
  • experimentation of different materials (cloth was great, glossy materials not so much)
  • proper documentation of why something didn't work or worked
  • including extra paying to detail on tutorials, attempting stuff like doing both sides of an object instead of just one

the objects i'll try these last experiments on would be:
  • my mgsv arm, which then has a glossy material, lots of detail you have to focus on, is tall generally, and is on a stand so no "doing both sides" is needed
  • gameboy advance, which has a plastic material with a glossy-reflective screen material, also a good amount of details, but is generally small and nice in shape
  • a bust of beethoven, which has a marble material with little-gloss, but also a good amount of details, and is on a stand too
  • a dualsense controller, which has a somewhat glossy material, smaller in size, and also needs both sides done
  • the poliwhirl plushie showed before, which has a cloth-like material with no gloss except the eyes, a good amount of details, and also needs both sides done

one general worry i have is that shadows on the figure "remain" on the exported material for the model, which wouldn't make much sense in the end as you want a model's material to be generally "neutral" in lighting, so anything that's too sharp or too light'ed up would be very ugh for the model

although, i'll attempt to do at least 2 of them (most likely dualsense and bust) tonight

Cautious about xb3 since it seems to be more like 1 than 2. I thought the blade system added a lot of interesting stuff to the game and to the exploration, as annoying as the RNG could be with obtaining them. I didn't play 1 until the switch remake and thought it was horrible so I'm nervous about 3 based on what little we've seen.

This week's top 10 looks like this!

I've only played Old World about 4 hours, but it's pretty cool so far. It's a unique spin on the Civ formula and I like the CK aspects, especially since I'm too dumb to properly understand CK.

V Rising will likely hit 1 million copies sold in the upcoming days, assuming it hasn't already.

Might pick up Old World before the sale ends. Played a bit with my promo code on EGS forever ago and I really liked it, but it needs the Epic Launcher, so I can't bother with it there.

And considering it is publisher Hooded Horse first Steam release (a publisher that focuses on strategy games), they must be happy.

Photogrammetry as a basis is the future and present of high end 3d modelling. Yeah, obviously it goes even further than just the initial scanning phase in higher end productions. But all of UE5 materials/prefabs is wholly based (starting with) photogrammetry.

Look at what people are doing in photogrammetry (this is someone with years of experience and using LIDAR stuff):

Obviously that's being ported to platforms that aren't particular about their materials, VR Chat and another program I hadn't heard of before. Pause that video at any spot and you'll see the typical distortions of raw photogrammetry. But it's still awesome.

It might just be that Source 2 isn't suitable for what you want to do at the moment.

i appreciate the message, but it's just not optimal

A UV map is always going to be a complete mess and nightmare. I'm not an expert, but I don't think anyone does ART on the raw texture for a UV map these days. That's like Quake 1 era art, I think.

Last week:

And.... SURPRISE! this is my 100th week doing this :cat-heart-blob: :cat-heart-blob: :cat-heart-blob:
What an interesting week.

I had the impression that V Rising came out of nowhere and just kinda blew up. It also reached a new all time peak of concurrent players.

Old world looks like an interesting mix between Civlization and Crusader Kings

Deck in #2 means it flopped. RIP Valve :toucan:
